When the ignition switch is turned “ON”, the
odometer display is given in the lower dis-
play window (1). The upper display window
(2) shows the tripmeter A and tripmeter B
distances in that sequence. It then shows
the distance that was displayed before the
ignition switch was last turned to the “OFF”.
Every time the reset button (3) is pressed
lightly (less than one second), the upper dis-
play is changed as below.
D03F055a
OdometerThe odometer indicates the total distance
the vehicle has travelled.
TripmeterThere are two tripmeters: A and B. These
indicate the distance travelled during a par-
ticular trip or period.
4– Tripmeter A indicates the distance tra-
velled since the current trip begins.
5– Tripmeter B indicates the distance from
an intermediate location.
To r e t u r n the indication to 0, press the
reset button for more than 1 second.
Only the currently displayed value will
be reset.

sound to remind the driver to turn off the
lamps.
Turn off the lamp switch, and the buzzer will
stop.
[Vehicles with Daytime Running Lamp]When the ignition key is in the “ON” position
and the lamp switch is set to the “
” posi-
tion, the low beam of the headlamps, tail
lamps, etc., will illuminate.
NOTE
(1) Do not leave the headlamps and other
lamps on for too long time while the en-
gine is stationary. A run–down battery
could result.
(2) When it rains, or when the vehicle has
been washed, the inside of the lens
sometimes becomes foggy. This is the
same phenomenon as when window
glass mists up on a humid day, and
does not indicate a functional problem.
When the lamp is switched on, the heat
will remove the fog. However, if water
gathers inside the lamp, please go to an
authorized MITSUBISHI dealer for a
check.

The turn-signal lamps flash when the switch
is operated (with the ignition switch “ON”). At
the same time, the turn signal indicator
flashes.
1-Turn-signals
When making a normal turn, use posi-
tion (1). The lever will return automati-
cally when cornering is completed.
There are times when the lever will not
return after cornering. This occurs
when the steering wheel is turned only
slightly.
In such cases, return the lever by
hand.
2-Lane-change signals
When changing lanes, use position
(2). It will return to the neutral position
when released.NOTE
If the lamp flashes unusually quickly, the bulb
in a turn–signal lamp may have burned out.
Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized
MITSUBISHI dealer.

Headlamp levelling switchEE01GMF
The angle of the headlamp beam varies
depending upon the load carried by the ve-
hicle.
The headlamp levelling switch can be
used to adjust the headlamp illumination
distance (when the lower beam is illumi-
nated) so that the headlamps’ glare does
not distract the drivers of approaching ve-
hicles. Set the switch (referring to the fol-
lowing table) to the appropriate position
according to the number of people and the
load in the vehicle.

For vehicles with a MITSUBISHI genuine
audio, average fuel consumption, driving
range and average speed can be displayed
besides average fuel consumption by push-
ing the “DISP” button in the audio system.
When the ignition switch is turned “ON”, the
display shows the 3 items sequentially (av-
erage fuel consumption, driving range, aver-
age speed) and returns to the original dis-
play that is shown before the ignition switch
was last turned “OFF”.
NOTE
If the DISP button is pressed while the dis-
play is scrolling through the sequence men-
tioned above, the display stops scrolling and
shows the item that was shown before the
ignition switch was last turned to the “OFF”
position.

Changing gearsEI03CMKg
Always use care to change the gear with the
vehicle speed matched to the engine speed.
Proper shifting will improve fuel economy
and prolong engine life.
Avoid shifting down at high speed, as this
may cause excessive engine speed (on ve-
hicles with a tachometer, the tachometer
needle into the red zone) and damage the
engine.
Economical driving speedThe following shift points are recommended
to assist fuel economy. The driver may vary
these points to suit driving conditions and
load.

5th gear is an overdrive ratio and its use re-
duces engine speed below that of the 4th
gear. Use 5th gear whenever vehicle speed
allows, for maximum fuel economy.

EI04AXV
Designed for optimum control and equipped
with adaptive control capabilities, the elec-
tronically controlled transmission optimally
matches gear shifts to almost all driving and
road conditions.
CAUTION
This system is strictly intended to
provide supplementary functions.
When travelling downhill under cer-
tain conditions or immediately after
starting off when the automatic trans-
mission is cold, no automatic shift-
down may be made. The driver should
shiftdown to a lower gear to use en-
gine braking. Try to drive safely at all
time.

3 - THIRD/2 - SECOND
(Except for vehicles with Sports
mode)
This position is for extra power when driving
up moderately steep hills, and for engine
braking when descending moderately steep
gradients.
L - LOW
(Except for vehicles with Sports
mode)
This position is for driving up very steep hills
and for engine braking at low speeds when
descending steep gradients.
WARNING
This position can be used for maxi-
mum engine braking.
Be very careful not to shift into “L”
suddenly. Sudden engine braking
may cause the tyres to skid.
Select this position according to the
road conditions and vehicle speed.

A/T mode changeover switch
(Except for vehicles with Sports
mode)
EI04JADa
Two drive modes, “AUTO” and “HOLD”, can
be selected.
Each time you press the switch, the “AUTO”
and “HOLD” modes will switch alternately.
When the “HOLD” mode is selected, the
“HOLD” indicator illuminates on the instru-
ment panel.
AUTOSelect this position for normal driving.
In this position, your vehicle runs with econ-
omical fuel consumption when the acceler-
ator pedal is depressed moderately, and
runs powerfully when the pedal is depressed
heavily.
I04J020a
HOLDSelect the “HOLD” mode when starting your
vehicle on a slippery road surface for
example snow, and the vehicle will start
smoothly.
If you start your vehicle with the selector
lever in other than the “L” position, the ve-
hicle starts in 2nd gear.
When the vehicle speed reaches between
20 to 50 km/h, the gear is fixed in the highest
gear of the selected lever position.
(For example, if you select “D” position, the
vehicle starts in 2nd gear. As the vehicle
speed increases, the gear is shifted up and
when the vehicle speed exceeds approxi-
mately 50 km/h, the gear enters the 4th and
held in the 4th.) Therefore, you can drive like
driving the vehicle with manual transmission
by fully using the selector lever positions.
In the “HOLD” mode, depressing the accel-
erator pedal fully also causes the kick-down
operation.

How to enter frequencies in the
memory
Manual settingYo u c a n assign to the memory select buttons
(8) a maximum of 12 stations in the UKW
band (6 U1 stations and 6 U2 stations),
6 stations in the MW band and 6 stations in
the LW band. (Stations already assigned to
the memory select buttons are replaced by
any newly assigned stations.)
Follow the steps described below.
1. Press either the TUNE/SEEK button
(6 or 7) to tune the frequency to be en-
tered in the memory.
2. Press one of the memory select but-
tons (8) for about 2 seconds or longer.
The sound will be momentarily inter-
rupted while the frequency is being
entered into the memory.
The number of the button correspon-ding to the entry in the memory and the
frequency are displayed.
3. The preset memory setting is retrieved
by pressing the button and then re-
leasing it within 2 seconds.
Automatic settingWith the method, all manually set stations in
the band currently selected for reception are
replaced with stations in the same band that
are automatically selected in order of signal
strength. The radio automatically selects
12 stations in the UKW band and 6 stations
each in the MW and LW band.
Follow the steps described below.
1. With the radio mode selected, hold
down the U/M/L button (3) until a beep
is emitted. The 6 stations with the best
signal strength will automatically be
assigned to the memory select but-
tons (8), with the lowest-frequency
station being assigned to the lowest-
number button.
2. When you subsequently press a
memory select button to select a
channel number, the radio will begin
receiving the station assigned to that
number.

AF (Alternative Frequencies) functionThe AF function finds a station broadcasting
the same program, and selects the station
with the strongest signal of AF lists.
The AF function is tuned on (with the AF indi-
cator (13) shown on the display) at all times
unless you manually switch it off.
To turn the function off, at first, switch off the
power from UKW mode, and while pressing
the No.5 of the memory select buttons (7),
press the PWR switch (1) until it beeps. The
AF indicator (13) on the display will turn off.
To turn the function on, use the same pro-
cedure.
REG (Regional) functionREG function limits to receive the stations
broadcasting regional programs.
Regional programming and regional net-
works are organized differently depending
on the country or area (they may be changed
according to the hour, state, or broadcast
area), so if you don’t want to receive the re-
gional programs automatically, you can set
up REG ON not to receive regional pro-
grams.
To turn the function on, switch off the power
from UKW mode, and while pressing the V
side of the TUNE/SEEK button (5), press the
PWR switch (1) until it beeps. The ”REG ON”
will be shown on the display. To turn the function off, use the same pro-
cedure.
PI (Program Identification) search
function
When traveling long distance and the re-
called preset station is weak, radio searches
another frequency broadcasting the same
programming with the same PI code in AF
list.
If there are no frequencies broadcasting the
same programming, the radio searches a
frequency broadcasting the regional pro-
gramming. The radio succeeds in searching
the regional programming, then the display
shows the REG indicator (10).
If the radio does not succeed in searching
the regional programming, the radio returns
to the recalled preset station.

NOTE
While “TP” is illuminated, the radio stops only
at TP stations even if the TUNE/SEEK but-
ton (5 or 6) is pressed.
TP (Traffic information Program)
search function
The traffic information program standby
function is turned on (with the TP indicator
(11) shown on the display) and after about 45
seconds since the RDS indicator (9) turns off
due to weak signal or the tuning station is
changed over form a TP station to a station
which does not broadcast traffic information,
the sound will beep 5 times and seeks out a
TP station in all frequencies automatically.
To turn the function off, switch off the power
from UKW mode, and while pressing TP but-
ton (2), press the PWR switch (1) until it
beeps. The ”TP–S OFF” will be shown on
the display. To turn the function on, use the same pro-
cedure.
Emergency broadcastsIf an emergency broadcast is caught while
receiving a UKW broadcast or playing back
a cassette tape with the ignition switch in
“ACC” or “ON” position, the display will show
“ALARM” and the emergency broadcast will
interrupt the current program. The volume
level is set separately for listening to nor-
mal audio programs and for listening to
emergency broadcasts. The volume level
will therefore change automatically to that
set when an emergency broadcast was
last received. When the emergency broad-
cast is over, the radio will return to the pre-
viously received program and to the corre-
sponding volume level.
