WA R N I N G The side airbag and curtain airbag can cause serious injury or death to anyone too close to the airbag when it deploys. To reduce the risk of injury from a deployingside airbag and curtain airbags, all occu- pants must be properly restrained and seated well back, upright, and in the mid-dle of the seat. Do not lean against the door.

WA R N I N G In order to reduce the risk of injury from a deploying side airbag, do not allow any rear seat passengers to hold onto the back of either front seat. Special care should be taken with children. Do not place any objects near or around the front of either front seatback. Suchobjects can interfere with proper side air- bag deployment and cause injury during deployment of the side airbag. Do not place stickers, labels or additional trim on the back of either front seat. Theycan interfere with proper side airbag deployment. Do not install seat covers or re-cover seats that have side airbags. Covers can inter- fere with proper side airbag deploymentand adversely affect side airbag perfor- mance. Do not attach a microphone (A) or any other object around the part where the curtain airbag (B) deploys, such as on thewindshield, side door glass or front and rear pillars and roof side rail. When the curtain airbag inflates, the microphone orother object may be hurled with great force or the curtain airbag may not inflate correctly, resulting in death or serious injury.
WA R N I N G Do not put a hanger or any heavy or pointed object on the coat hook. If the cur- tain airbag was activated, any such item could be propelled away with great forceand could prevent the curtain airbag from inflating correctly. Hang clothes directly on the coat hook (without using a hanger).Make sure there are no heavy or sharp objects in the pockets of clothes that you hang on the coat hook. Never install a rear-facing child restraint system in the front passenger seat. Rear-facing child restraint systems MUST ONLY be used in the rear seat.
 Front-facing child restraint systems should also be used ONLY in the rear seat. If a front-facing child restraint system must be used in the front passenger seat, move the seat as far back as possible, andmake sure that the child stays in the child restraint system, properly restrained and away from the door. Do not allow a child to lean against or sit close to the passenger door, even if thechild is seated in a child restraint system. The child’s head should also not lean against or be close to the section of theseatback where the side airbag and cur- tain airbag are located.
It is dangerous if
the side airbag and curtain airbagdeploys. Failure to follow all of these instructions could lead to serious injury or death to the child. Work done on or in the vicinity of the side airbag and curtain airbag system compo-nents should be done only by an autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Improper work methods can cause accidental sideairbag and curtain airbag deployment, or render a side airbag and curtain airbag inoperable. The side airbag and curtain airbag are not designed to deploy in situations where they cannot provide protection to the occupants. Typical situations where the side airbags andcurtain airbags cannot provide protection are shown in the illustrations below. Because the side airbags and curtain airbags do not protect the occupants in all types ofcollisions, be sure to always wear your seatbelts properly.

WA R N I N G Any maintenance performed on or near the components of the SRS should be per- formed only by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Do not permit anyone elseto do any service, inspection, maintenance or repair on any SRS components or wir- ing. Similarly, no part of the SRS shouldever be handled, removed or disposed by anyone except an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.Improper work methods on the SRS com- ponents or wiring could result in an acci- dental airbag deployment or could makethe SRS inoperable. Either of these situa- tions could result in serious injury or death.  Do not modify your steering wheel or any other SRS component or related vehiclepart. For example, replacement of the steering wheel, or modifications to the front bumper or body structure canadversely affect SRS performance and may lead to injury. If your vehicle has received any damage, you should have the SRS inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer to make sure it is in proper working order.

 Do not modify your front seats, center pil- lar or center console. Such modifications can adversely affect SRS performance and may lead to injury. Also, if you discover any tear or openseam in the seat fabric near the side air- bag, have the seat inspected by an autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.  If you find a crack in or damage to the front pillar, rear pillar, or roof side railwhere the curtain airbag is located, have the SRS inspected by an authorized Mit- subishi Motors dealer.NOTE
 When you transfer ownership of the vehicle to another person, we urge you to alert the new owner that it is equipped with the SRS and refer that owner to the applicable sec-tions in this owner’s manual.  If you decide to junk
or scrap your vehicle,
we urge you to first take
it to an authorized
Mitsubishi Motors dealer so that the SRS can be made safe for disposal.  If any of the following parts needs to be modified for use by a handicapped person, the advanced airbag system will be greatly affected. When this switch is in the lock mode, the main switch for passenger door window and the sub switch cannot be used to open orclose the door window, and the main switch
will open or close only the driver’s door win- dow. To unlock the switch, press it again.

Wind buffeting can be described as the per- ception of pressure on the ears or a booming or rumbling sound. Your vehicle may exhibitwind buffeting when driving with one or both
rear door windows down or partially opened. This is a normal occurrence that can be mini- mized. If the buffeting occurs with the rear door windows open, open the front door win-dows as well as the rear door windows to minimize the condition.

The sunroof can be opened and closed with the ignition switch in the “ON” position.
NOTE
 The safety mechanism can be activated if the driving conditions or other circumstances cause the door window to be subjected to a physical shock similar to that caused by trapped hand or head.  If the safety mechanism is activated 3 or more times consecutively, the safety mecha-nism is deactivated and normal closing of the door window will be aborted. Use the following method to return to normaloperation. 1. If the door window is open, repeatedly pull up the power window switch to fully close the door window. 2. With fully closing the window, releasethe switch and then pull up the switch again for about 1 second.

1- Lock 2- UnlockWA R N I N G Before driving with a child in the vehicle, be sure to lock the window switch to makeit inoperative. Children tampering with the switch could easily trap their hands or heads in the window.
What to do if you hear wind buffeting when driving

WA R N I N G Do not stick your head, hands or anything else in the sunroof opening.  Before operating the sunroof, make sure that nothing can be trapped (head, hands, fingers, etc.). Never leave a child (or other person who is incapable of safely operating the sunroof switch) alone in the vehicle.

Press the switch (1), the sunroof automati- cally opens and the sunroof will stop several centimeters this side of the full open position. Press the switch (1) again, and the sunroofwill be fully open.To stop the moving sunroo
f, press the switch.
Press the switch (3), the sunroof automati- cally closes.To stop the moving sunroof, press the switch. When the switch (2) is pressed, the rear edge of sunroof raises for ventilation. Press the switch (3). The sunroof can be oper
ated when the igni-
tion switch is in the “ON” position. The sun- roof can be opened or closed for a 30 secondsperiod after the ignition
switch is turned to
the “ACC” or “LOCK” position. However, once the driver’s door or the front passenger’sdoor is opened, the sunroof cannot be oper- ated until the ignition switch is turned on again.
If a hand or head is trapped in the closing sunroof opening, the safety mechanism willcause the sunroof to re-open automatically. The opened sunroof will become operational again after a few seconds.If the safety mechanism is activated 5 or more times consecutively, normal closing of the sunroof will be aborted.As an emergency measure, the sunroof can beclosed in small increments until it is com- pletely closed by repeatedly pressing the switch (2).After performing the emergency measure, consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

 The sunroof stops just before reaching the fully open position. If the vehicle is driven with the sunroof in this position, wind buf- feting is lower than with the sunroof fullyopen.
