 During repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel (for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into a parking space), a protection function may be acti-vated to prevent overheating of the power steering system. This function will make the steering wheel gradually harder to turn. Inthis event, limit your tu
rning of the steering
wheel for a while. When the system has cooled down, the steering effort will return to normal.  If you turn the steering wheel while the vehi- cle is stationary with the headlights on, the headlights may become dim. This behavioris not abnormal. The headlights will return to their original brightness after a short while.

CAUTION If the warning display appears while the engine is running, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer ora repair facility of your choice as soon as possible. It may become harder to turn the steering wheel.
Active stability control (ASC)
CAUTION Do not over-rely on the ASC. Even the ASC cannot prevent the natural laws of physics from acting on the vehicle. This system, like any other system, has limits and cannot helpyou to maintain traction and control of the vehicle in all circumstances. Reckless driv- ing can lead to accidents. It is the driver’sresponsibillty to drive carefully, This means taking into account the traffic, road and envi- ronmental conditions. Be sure to use the same specified type and size of tire on all four wheels. Otherwise, the ASC may not work properly.

The ASC is automatically activated when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ON. You candeactivate the system by pressing down the“ASC OFF” switch for 3 seconds or longer.
When the ASC is deactivated, the dis- play/indicator will turn on. To reactivate the ASC, momentarily press the “ASC OFF” switch ; the display/indicator is turned off.
 Do not install any aftermarket limited slip differential (LSD) on your vehicle. The ASC may stop functioning properly.NOTE
 An operation noise may be emitted from the engine compartment in the following situa- tions. The sound is associated with checkingthe operations of the ASC. At this time, you may feel a shock from the brake pedal if you depress it. These do not indicate a malfunc-tion. • When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ON. • When the vehicle is driven for a while after the engine is turned on.
 When the ASC is activated, you may feel a vibration in the vehicle body or hear a whin- ing sound from the engine compartment.This indicates that the system is operating normally. It does not indicate a malfunction.  When the anti-lock braking system warning light is illuminated, the ASC is not active.

CAUTION
CAUTION When driving a vehicle on a snowy or icy road, be sure to install snow tires and drivethe vehicle at moderate speeds.
Skid control function
NOTE
 The skid control function operates at speeds of about 9 mph (15 km/h) or higher.
ASC OFF switch
CAUTION For safety reasons, the “ASC OFF” switch should be operated when your vehicle isstopped.  Be sure to keep the ASC on while driving in normal circumstances.NOTE
 Using the “ASC OFF” switch turns off both the stability control function and the tractioncontrol function.

 When moving out of mud, sand or fresh snow, pressing the accelerator pedal may not allow the engine speed to increase. In such situations, temporarily turning off ASC with the “ASC OFF” switch will make it easier tomove out your vehicle.  If you continue to press the “ASC OFF” switch after the ASC is turned off, the “mis- taken operation protection function” will activate and the ASC will turn back on.

CAUTION When display/indicator blinks, ASC is operating, which means that the road is slip- pery or that your vehicle’s wheels are begin- ning to slip. If this happens, drive slowerwith less accelerator input. If the temperature in the braking system con- tinues to increase due to continuous brake control on a slippery road surface, the display/indicator will blink. To prevent the brake system from overheating, the brakecontrol of the traction control function will be temporarily suspended. The engine control of the traction controlfunction and normal brake operation will not be affected. Park your vehicle in a safe place. When the temperature in the braking system has come down, the display/indicator will be turned off and the traction control function will start operating again.NOTE
 The display/indicator may turn on when you start the engine. This means that the bat- tery voltage momentarily dropped when the engine was started. It does not indicate a malfunction, provided that the display goesout immediately.
 When a compact spare tire has been put on your vehicle, the gripping ability of the tire will be lower, making it more likely that the display/indicator will blink.

Cruise control is an automatic speed control system that keeps a set speed. It can be acti- vated at speeds from about 25 mph(40 km/h). Cruise control does not work at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h).
NOTE
 The combination of items shown on the dis- play varies depending on the vehicle model.CAUTION The system may be malfunctioning. Park your vehicle in a safe place and stop the engine.Restart the engine and check whether the dis- play/indicator goes out. If they go out, there is no abnormal condition. If they do not goout or appear frequently, it is not necessary to stop the vehicle immediately, but you should have your vehicle inspected by anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice as soon as pos- sible.

CAUTION When towing the vehicle with only the front wheels or only the rear wheels raised off the ground, do not place the ignition switch in the “ON” position or do
not put the operation
mode in ON. Placing the ignition switch in the “ON” position or putting the operation mode in ON could cause the ASC to operate,resulting in an accident. Note that the correct towing method depends on the transmission type and the vehicle’sdrive configuration. For details, refer to
“Towing” on page 8-12.
Cruise control (if so equipped)
CAUTION When you do not wish to drive at a set speed, turn off the cruise control for safety.
 Do not use cruise control when driving con- ditions will not allow you to stay at the same speed, such as in heavy traffic or on roads that are winding, icy, snow-covered, wet, slippery, on a steep downhill slope. On vehicles equipped with manual transaxle, do not move the gearshift lever to the “N”(Neutral) position while driving at a set speed without depressing the clutch pedal. The engine will run too fast and might bedamaged.NOTE
 Cruise control may not be able to keep your speed on uphills or downhills.  Your speed may decrease on a steep uphill. You may use the accelerator pedal if you want to stay at your set speed.  Your speed may increase to more than the set speed on a steep downhill. You have to usethe brake to control your speed. As a result, the set speed driving is deactivated.CAUTION

pressure telltale when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when the low tire pressure tell- tale illuminates, you should stop and checkyour tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pres
sure. Driving on a sig-
nificantly under-inflated tire causes the tire tooverheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehi-cle’s handling and stopping ability. Pleasenote that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver’s responsibility to maintain correct tire pres-sure, even if under-inflation has not reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combinedwith the low tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one min-ute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunctionexists. When the malfunction indicator is illumi- nated, the system may not be able to detect orsignal low tire pressure as intended.
TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternat
e tires or wheels on the
vehicle that prevent the TPMS from function-ing properly. Always check the TPMS mal- function telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure thatthe replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function prop- erly.

1. If the tire pressure monitoring systemwarning light illuminates, avoiding hardbraking, sharp steering maneuvers and high speeds. You should stop and adjust the tires to the proper inflation pressure assoon as possible. Adjust the spare tire at the same time. Refer to “Tires” on page 9-13.
2. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light remains illuminated after you have been driving for about 20 min- utes after you adjust the tire inflation pres-sure, one or more of the tires may have a puncture. Inspect the tire and if it has a puncture, have it repaired by an autho-rized Mitsubishi Motors dealer as soon as possible.
If the warning light/display illu- minates while driving
NOTE
 In addition, the warning display is displayed on the information screen in the multi-infor- mation display.  When inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, do not apply excessive force to the valve stem to avoid breakage.
 After inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, always reinstall the valve cap on the valve stem. Without the valve cap, dirt or moisture could get into the valve, resulting in damage to thetire inflation pressure sensor.  Do not use metal valve caps, which may cause a metal reaction, resulting in corrosion and damage of the tire inflation pressure sen- sors.  Once adjustments have been made, the warn- ing light will go off after a few minutes ofdriving.WA R N I N G If the warning light/display illuminates while you are driving, avoid hard braking, sharp steering maneuvers and high speeds.Driving with an under-inflated tire adversely affects vehicle performance and can result in an accident.NOTE

The tire pressure monitoring system may not work normally in the following circum- stances:  A wireless facility or device using the same frequency is near the vehicle.  Snow or ice is stuck inside the fenders and/or on the wheels. The tire inflation pressure sensor’s battery is dead.
 Wheels other than Mitsubishi genuine wheels are being used.  Wheels that are not fi
tted with tire infla-
tion pressure sensors are being used. Wheels whose ID codes are not memo- rized by the vehicle are used.  Compact spare tire is fitted on a road wheel.  A window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.

 The brightness level of the instruments is stored when the ignition switch is turned to the “OFF” position or the operation mode is put in OFF.  If you press and hold the button for longer than about 1 second when the front side- marker and parking lights are illuminated,the brightness level changes to the maximum level. Pressing and holding the button for longer than about 1 second again returns thebrightness level to the previous level.NOTE

When changing lanes, or to making a gradual turn, hold the lever in the “lane change” posi-tion (1). It will return to the neutral positionwhen you let go. Use the full position (2) when making a normal turn. The lever will return to the neutral position when the turn iscomplete. There may be times when the lever does not return to the neutral position. This usually happens when the steering wheel isturned only slightly. You can easily return the lever by hand. Also, when you move the lever to (1) slightlythen release it, the turn signal lights and the indicator light in the instrument cluster will flash three times.
WA R N I N G To avoid distraction while driving, always perform headlight adjustments beforevehicle operation.NOTE
 Start adjusting when the knob is at the “0” position (when the beam is at its highest).  Keep the knob in the “0” position except when using the knob to lower the headlightbeam angle.
 Always return the knob to the “0” position when the load is removed and the people have left the vehicle.
