Filling the fuel tank
WA R N I N GzWhen handling fuel, comply with thesafety regulations displayed by garagesand filling stations.zGasoline is highly flammable and explo-sive. You could be burned or seriouslyinjured when handling it. When refuelingyour vehicle, always
put the operation
mode of the power switch in OFF andkeep away from flames, sparks, and smok-ing materials. Always handle fuel in well-ventilated outdoor areas.zBefore removing the fuel cap, be sure toget rid of your body’s static electricity bytouching a metal part of the car or fuelpump. Any static electricity on your bodycould create a spark that ignites fuelvapor.
zPerform the whole refueling process(opening the fuel tank filler door, remov-ing the fuel cap, etc.) by yourself. Do notlet any other person come near the fueltank filler. If you allowed a person to helpyou and that person was carrying staticelectricity, fuel vapor could be ignited.zDo not perform chargi
ng and refueling at
the same time. If you charged with staticelectricity, fuel vapor could be ignited bythe discharge spark.zDo not move away from the fuel tank filleruntil refueling is finished. If you movedaway and did something else (for example,sitting on a seat) part-way through therefueling process, you could pick up afresh charge of st
atic electricity.
zBe careful not to inhale fuel vapor. Fuelcontains toxic substances.zKeep the doors and windows closed whilerefueling the vehicle. If they were open,fuel vapor could get into the cabin.zIf the tank cap must be replaced, use onlya MITSUBIHI MOTORS original part.WA R N I N G

your vehicle, the fuel in the fuel tank maynot be used for a long time and stay in thetank, resulting in deterioration of the fuelquality. As this may af

fuel system parts, observe the followinginstructions:•Run the engine by pressing the batterycharge switch at least once in 3 months.Refer to “Battery charge switch” on page7-23.• Refuel 20 litres or more of fuel every 6months (to make the total refueling amountin 6 months be 20 litres or more).

If the lever is set to the locked position, therear door cannot be opened using the insidehandle, but only with the outside handle.If the lever is set to the “Unlock” position, thechild protection mechanism does not func-tion.

The tailgate can be locked or unlocked byusing the central door lock switch (driverside).
After unlocking the tailgate, push the tailgateopen switch (A) and pull up the tailgate.Pull the tailgate grip (B) downward as illus-trated. Gently slam the tailgate from the out-side so that it is completely closed. Alwaysensure the tailgate is securely closed.

protection to prevent
accidental door opening which may cause anaccident.

The electric tailgate can be opened automati-cally when all of the following conditions aremet.zThe operation mode is in OFF.zThe key is not inserted into the ignitionswitch.zThe electric tailgate is completely closed.zThe electric tailgate is unlocked.

zIf the electric tailgate handle is operatedwhile the tailgate is operating or immedi-ately after it is closed, the tailgate will movein the direction opposite to the one in whichit was operating.zIf the battery or fuse is replaced while theelectric tailgate is open, it cannot be closedautomatically.In this case close the electric tailgate manu-ally.

The tailgate easy closer is a mechanism forassisting the closing of the electric tailgate.If the electric tailgate is closed to a positionwhere it is detected as being ajar, it closesautomatically.
CAUTIONzMake sure there is no one around the electrictailgate when opening it.NOTE
zIf it does nor open immediately after pushingthe tailgate open switch, the electric tailgatecannot be lifted.If this occurs, push the tailgate open switchagain and pull up the electric tailgate.zThe electric tailgate cannot be opened whenthe battery is flat or disconnected.
CAUTIONzDo not fully close the electric tailgate withyour hand still on the tailgate grip. Doing socould trap and injure your hand or arm.zThe safety mechanism is deactivated whenthe electric tailgate is closed manually.Therefore be especially careful not to trap ahand or finger at this time.

you think your hands or fingers could becaught during the operation of the tailgateeasy closer, pull the handle of the electrictailgate. The electric tailgate will return tothe door ajar position.
CAUTIONzDo not touch the latch (A) on the inside ofthe electric tailgate. The tailgate easy closercould operate and
catch your fingers.
NOTE
zThe tailgate easy closer operates even whenthe electric tailgate power switch is OFF.zRepeated continuous operation of the handlecould activate the prot
ection circuit and tem-
porarily prevent the tailgate easy closer fromoperating.If this occurs, wait about 1 minute beforeoperating the tailgate easy closer again.

allow air to cool the brakes between applica-tions.Furthermore, it might be able to reduce theload of the brakes by using the regenerativebrake force.Leave plenty of room between the front ofyour vehicle and the preceding vehicle.If the caravan begins to sway or becomes dif-ficult to handle, gently slow down or applythe independent trailer brakes (if fitted) NOTthe vehicle brakes. Stop the vehicle andtrailer in a safe location. Examine the tyres ofthe trailer closely for damage. If you find thedamage of tyre, it is recommended that tyresbe inspected by a MITSUBISHI MOTORSAuthorised Service Point or a tyre retailerbefore proceeding further. Note that treadseparation [separation of the tread band fromthe body of the tyre] of trailer tyres which areaged, and/or loaded near their load limit, canbe difficult to detect, especially on caravanswhere tyres are covered.One cause of swaying is poor trailer balanceand until this has been overcome the swayingwill recur. Relocate the load in your trailer orcaravan and re-assess the problem.If the wheels of your vehicle, the trailer orcaravan leave the road surface and enter the
unsealed edge of the road, resist the urge topull it back quickly. Wait for a section wherethe levels of the road and unsealed edge arecomparable and then ease back onto thesealed section of the road with as little swayas possible.Try to maximise the distance between yourcaravan and passing or overtaking semi-trail-ers or other heavy vehicles. This will reducethe suction forces between the two and mini-mise disturbance of the caravan.Do not apply the brakes severely, be alert andanticipate trouble far enough ahead to enableyou to apply the brakes smoothly and evenly.Do not make any manoeuvres before ensuringthat the road behind and in front of your vehi-cle is clear.This will normally occur as a result of somemechanical failure. If your vehicle shouldoverheat, stop and check for a loose or brokenwater pump drive belt/ oil pump/cooling oil, ablocked radiator air intake or a low coolantlevel. If these items are satisfactory the over-heating could be caused by a number of
mechanical causes that would have to bechecked at a MITSUBISHI MOTORSAuthorised Service Point.If your vehicle is in good mechanical condi-tion and it overheats due to heavy traffic con-ditions or high air temperatures, additionalcooling may be obtained by the followingmethods:zReduce your speed by 15 km/h if towingat high speeds.
