A/T Does Not Hold Lock-up ConditionNCS0008J
SYMPTOM:
The lock-up condition cannot be maintained for more than 30 seconds.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to AT- 8 6 , "
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULT MODE" , AT- 9 2 , "Diagnostic Procedure
Without CONSULT-III" .
Is any malfunction detected by self-diagnostic results?
YES >> Check the malfunctioning system. Refer to AT- 8 6 , "SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULT MODE" , AT- 9 3 ,
"Judgment Self-diagnosis Code" .
NO >> GO TO 2.
2. CHECK A/T FLUID LEVEL
Check A/T fluid level. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "
Checking A/T Fluid" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 3.
NG >> Refill ATF.
3. CHECK A/T FLUID CONDITION
1. Remove oil pan. Refer to AT- 2 1 5 , "
Control Valve with TCM and A/T Fluid Temperature Sensor 2" .
2. Check A/T fluid condition. Refer to AT- 4 9 , "
A/T Fluid Condition Check" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> GO TO 7.
4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check the malfunction items. If any items are damaged, repair or replace damaged parts. Refer to AT- 5 9 ,
"Symptom Chart" (Symptom No. 25).
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 5.
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.
5. CHECK SYMPTOM
Check again. Refer to AT- 5 5 , "
Cruise Test — Part 1" .
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> GO TO 6.
6. CHECK TCM
1. Check TCM input/output signals. Refer to AT- 8 3 , "
TCM Input/Output Signal Reference Values" .
2. If NG, recheck A/T assembly harness connector terminals for damage or loose connection with harness
connector.
OK or NG
OK >>INSPECTION END
NG >> Repair or replace damaged parts.

Engine Speed Does Not Return to IdleNCS0008L
SYMPTOM:
When a shift-down is performed, the engine speed does not smoothly return to the idling speed.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. CHECK A/T FLUID LEVEL
Check A/T fluid level. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "
Checking A/T Fluid" .
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 2.
NG >> Refill ATF.
2. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to AT- 8 6 , "
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULT MODE" , AT- 9 2 , "Diagnostic Procedure
Without CONSULT-III"
Is any malfunction detected by self-diagnostic results?

NO >> GO TO 3.
3. CHECK A/T FLUID CONDITION

2. Check A/T fluid condition. Refer to AT- 4 9 , "

OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 4.
NG >> GO TO 7.
4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING ITEM
Check the malfunction items. If any items are damaged, repair or replace damaged parts. Refer to AT- 5 9 ,

OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 5.

5. CHECK SYMPTOM

SYMPTOM:
When shifted from M4 to M3 position in manual mode, does not downshift from 4th to 3rd gear.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS
Perform self-diagnosis. Refer to AT- 8 6 , "
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULT MODE" , AT- 9 2 , "Diagnostic Procedure
Without CONSULT-III" .
Is any malfunction detected by self-diagnostic results?

COMPONENTS
CONTROL VALVE WITH TCM ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
2. Drain ATF through drain hole.
3. Remove exhaust mounting bracket. Refer to EX-3, "
Removal and Installation" .

4. Disconnect heated oxygen sensor 2 harness connectors (A).

: Bolt
5. Remove heated oxygen sensor 2 harness (B) from clips (1).
6. Remove bracket (2) from transmission assembly.
7. Disconnect A/T assembly harness connector.
8. Remove snap ring from A/T assembly harness connector.
9. Push A/T assembly harness connector.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
10. Remove clips (1), oil pan (2) and oil pan gasket.

11. Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine causes of
malfunction. If the ATF is very dark, smells burned, or contains
foreign particles, the frictional material (clutches, band) may
need replacement. A tacky film that will not wipe clean indicates
varnish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and clutches
to stick and can inhibit pump pressure.

If frictional material is detected, perform A/T fluid cooler
cleaning. Refer to AT- 1 4 , "
A/T Fluid Cooler Cleaning".

12. Remove magnets from oil pan.
13. Disconnect A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 connector (A).
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
14. Straighten terminal clips ( ) to free terminal cord assembly and
A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 harness.
15. Disconnect revolution sensor connector.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
16. Straighten terminal clip to free revolution sensor harness.
17. Remove bolts (A), (B) and (C) from control valve with TCM.
