COMPONENT PARTS
Refrigerant Pressure Sensor
INFOID:0000000009462508
The refrigerant pressure sensor is installed at the c ondenser of the air conditioner system. The sensor uses an
electrostatic volume pressure transducer to convert refrigerant pressure to voltage. The voltage signal is sent
to ECM, and ECM controls cooling fan system.
Stop Lamp Switch & Brake Pedal Position SwitchINFOID:0000000009462509
Stop lamp switch and brake pedal position switch are installed to brake pedal bracket.
ECM detects the state of the brake pedal by those two types of input (ON/OFF signal).
VIAS Control Solenoid Valve 1 and 2INFOID:0000000009462510
The VIAS control solenoid valve cuts the intake manifold vacuum signal for power valve control. It responds to
ON/OFF signals from the ECM. When the solenoid is OFF, the vacuum signal from the intake manifold is cut.
When the ECM sends an ON signal the coil pulls the plunger downward and sends the vacuum signal to the
power valve actuator.

BASIC ASCD SYSTEM
Refer to Owner's Manual for ASCD operating instructions.
Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) allows a dr iver to keep vehicle at predetermined constant speed
without depressing accelerator pedal. Driver can set vehicle speed in advance between approximately 40 km/
h (25 MPH) and 144 km/h (89 MPH).
ECM controls throttle angle of electric thro ttle control actuator to regulate engine speed.
Operation status of ASCD is indicated by CRUISE indi cator and SET indicator in combination meter. If any
malfunction occurs in the ASCD system, it automatically deactivates control.
NOTE:
Always drive vehicle in a safe manner according to traffic conditions and obey all traffic laws.
SET OPERATION
Press MAIN switch. (The CRUISE indicato r in combination meter illuminates.)
When vehicle speed reaches a desired speed between approximately 40 km/h (25 MPH) and 144 km/h (89
MPH), press SET/COAST switch. (Then SET la mp in combination meter illuminates.)
ACCELERATE OPERATION
If the RESUME/ACCELERATE switch is pressed during cruise control driving, increase the vehicle speed until
the switch is released or vehicle speed r eaches maximum speed controlled by the system.
And then ASCD will maintain the new set speed.
CANCEL OPERATION
When any of following conditions exist, cruise operation will be canceled.
• CANCEL switch is pressed
• ON/OFF (MAIN) switch pressed (Set speed is cleared)

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
ECM calculates the value of signal transmitted from t he accelerator pedal and activates the throttle valve by
transmitting a control signal to the electric throttle c ontrol actuator. This allows the optimum throttle angle and
improves drivability and fuel consumption. In addition, ECM learns the fully closed position every time when
the ignition switch is turned OFF to improv e the accuracy in throttle valve position.
When a malfunction occurs in the throttle control system , the throttle valve is closed by the return spring and
maintains the minimum engine speed by holding a slightly opened condition which is close to the fully opened
condition. This allows the securing of brake syste m, power steering system, and electric system and the
ensuring of the safety.

BRAKE SW1 On/Off
Indicates [On/Off] condition from
brake pedal position switch signal or
ASCD clutch switch.
BRAKE SW2 On/Off Indicates [On/Off] condition of stop
lamp switch signal.
VHCL SPD CUT Non/
Cut • Indicates the vehicle cruise condi-
tion.
NON: Vehicle speed is maintained
at the ASCD set speed.
CUT: Vehicle speed decreased to
excessively low compared with
the ASCD set speed, and ASCD
operation is cut off.
LO SPEED CUT Non/
Cut • Indicates the vehicle cruise condi-
tion.
NON: Vehicle speed is maintained
at the ASCD set speed.
CUT: Vehicle speed decreased to
excessively low, and ASCD oper-
ation is cut off.
AT OD MONITOR On/Off • Indicates [On/Off] condition of
CVT O/D according to the input
signal from the TCM.
AT OD CANCEL On/Off • Indicates [On/Off] condition of
CVT O/D cancel request signal.
CRUISE LAMP On/Off Indicates [On/Off] condition of
CRUISE lamp dete rmined by the
ECM according to the input signals.
SET LAMP On/Off • Indicates [On/Off] condition of
SET lamp determined by the ECM
according to the input signals.
ALT DUTY % Indicates the duty ratio of the power
generation command value. The ra-
tio is calculated by ECM based on
the battery current sensor signal.
BAT CUR SEN mV The signal voltage of battery current
sensor is displayed.
A/F ADJ-B1
— Indicates the correction of a factor
stored in ECM. The factor is calcu-
lated from the difference between
the target air-fuel ratio stored in ECM
and the air-fuel ratio calculated from
A/F sensor 1 signal.
A/F ADJ-B2
P/N POSI SW On/Off ××Indicates [On/Off] condition from the
park/neutral position (PNP) signal.
INT/A TEMP SE °C or °F ×× The intake air temperature (deter-
mined by the signal voltage of the in-
take air temperature sensor) is
indicated.
AC PRESS SEN V The signal voltage from the refriger-
ant pressure sensor is displayed.
