Daytime lights *
On vehicles which are equipped with daytime lights, the dipped headlamps come on when the vehicle is started.
A u t o m a t i c s w i t c h i n g o n o f
lights
The side lights and dipped beam headlamps switch on automatically if the light is poor and when the wind-screen wipers operate continuously. They switch off when the light be-comes bright enough or the wind-screen wipers are switched off.
I n f o g g y w e a t h e r o r i n s n o w , t h e b r i g h t n e s s s e n - s o r c a n d e t e c t s u f fi c i e n t l i g h t , t h e l i g h t s w i l l n o t come on automatically.
Do not cover the brightness s e n s o r , c o u p l e d w i t h t h e r a i n s e n s o r , l o c a t e d i n t h e c e n t r e o f t h e w i n d s c r e e n b e h i n d t h e i n t e r i o r mirror. It is used for automatic s w i t c h i n g o n o f t h e l i g h t s .

Home lighting
The association with the automatic lighting function provides the follow me home lighting with the following additional options:
- selection of maintaining of the lighting for a duration of 15, 30 or 60 seconds in the vehicle parameters of the multifunction d i s p l a y c o n fi g u r a t i o n m e n u (except in the case of the monochrome display A for which the duration is pre-set),
- automatic activation of the follow me home lighting when the automatic lighting function is in operation.
Activation
Turn the lighting control to the " AUTO " position.
Disarming
Turn the lighting control to a position other than " AUTO ".
Operating fault
If the brightness sensor does not function correctly, the lights come on accompanied by the service warning light, an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Do not cover the brightness sensor, coupled with the rain sensor, located in the centre of the windscreen behind the interior mirror; the as-sociated functions would no longer be controlled.
This warning light comes on on the instrument panel.
The instruments and controls (ins-trument panel, multifunction display, air conditioning control panel, ...) are only lit on switching to the automa-tic switching on of the lights mode or when the lights are switched on ma-nually.

2. Map reading lights In the permanently on posi-
tion, there are different dura-
tions of lighting:
Boot light
The boot light is located in the left
boot trim.
It comes on automatically when the
boot is opened and switches of auto-
matically when the boot is closed.
Front courtesy light Permanently off.
Permanently on.
In this position, the courtesy
light comes on gradually:
- when the vehicle is unlocked,
- when the key is removed from the ignition,
- when the remote control locking button is pressed, in order to
locate your vehicle.
It switches off gradually:
- when the vehicle is locked,
- when the ignition is switched on,
- 30 seconds after the last door is closed. Map reading lights
With the ignition on, press
the corresponding switch 2 .
- when the ignition is off, approxi-
mately ten minutes,
- in energy economy mode, ap- proximately thirty seconds,
- when the engine is running, no limit.

Change the damaged wheel

checked as soon as possible.
Sensor(s) not detected or faulty This warning light comes
on on the instrument panel,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
multifunction display locating the wheel
or wheels which are not detected or
indicating a fault in the system.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to re-
place the faulty sensor(s). This system does not elimi-

tyre pressure checked regu-
l a r l y ( r e f e r t o t h e " I d e n t i fi c a -
tion features" paragraph) to ensure
that the optimum dynamic perfor-
m a n c e o f t h e v e h i c l e i s m a i n t a i n e d
a n d p r e v e n t p r e m a t u r e w e a r o f t h e
t y r e s , p a r t i c u l a r l y i n a r d u o u s d r i v i n g
c o n d i t i o n s ( h e a v y l o a d , h i g h s p e e d ) .
The tyre pressures must be checked
cold, at least once a month. Remember
to check the pressure of the spare
wheel.
T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
s y s t e m m a y e x p e r i e n c e t e m p o r a r y
interference due to radioelectric
emissions on a frequency close to
that used by the system.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) AND ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION (EBFD)
The ABS, in conjunction with the
electronic brake force distribution,
increases the stability and manoeu-
v r a b i l i t y o f y o u r v e h i c l e o n b r a k i n g ,
in particular on poor or slippery road
surfaces.
Note: when changing wheels (tyres
and rims), make sure that these are
a p p r o v e d .
The anti-lock braking system comes
into operation automatically when
there is a risk of wheel lock.
When this warning light
comes on, accompanied by
a buzzer and a message, it
indicates that there is a mal-
function of the ABS, which can cause
a l o s s o f c o n t r o l o f t h e v e h i c l e w h e n
braking.
When this warning light
comes on, connected to the
STOP and ABS warning
lights, accompanied by a
buzzer and a message, it indicates
that there is a malfunction of the
electronic brake force distribution,
which can cause a loss of control of
t h e v e h i c l e w h e n b r a k i n g . Stop immediately.
In both cases, consult a PEUGEOT
dealer.
EMERGENCY BRAKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
In an emergency, this system enables
the optimum braking pressure to be
reached more quickly, thus reducing
the stopping distance.
It is triggered by the speed at which
t h e b r a k e p e d a l i s a c t i v a t e d .
The effect of this is a reduction in the
resistance of the pedal and an in-
c r e a s e i n b r a k i n g e f fi c i e n c y .
When braking in an emergency,
p r e s s fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e
pressure.
Normal operation of the ABS
may make itself felt by slight
v i b r a t i o n s o f t h e b r a k e p e d a l .
In emergency braking, press
v e r y fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g
the pressure.

If this warning light comes on
on the instrument panel and
the indicator light on the but-
ton comes on, this indicates
that the ASR and ESP sys-
tems are disarmed.
TRACTION CONTROL (ASR) AND DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESP)
Operation of the ASR and ESP
systems T h e w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s i f
t h e A S R o r E S P i s a c t i v a t e d . Disarming
I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( s t a r t i n g a
v e h i c l e w h i c h i s b o g g e d d o w n , s t u c k
in snow, on soft ground, ...), it may
b e a d v i s a b l e t o d i s a r m t h e A S R a n d
ESP systems, so that the wheels can
m o v e f r e e l y a n d r e g a i n g r i p .
Press the "ESP OFF" button,
located in the centre of the
fascia.
Reactivation T h e s e s y s t e m s a r e r e a c t i v a t e d a u t o -
matically each time the ignition is
switched back on or from 30 mph
(50 km/h).
Press the "ESP OFF" button again
t o r e a c t i v a t e t h e m m a n u a l l y .
Operating fault
If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
multifunction display, this indi-
cates a malfunction of these
systems.
H a v e t h e s y s t e m s c h e c k e d b y a
PEUGEOT dealer.
T h e E S P / A S R s y s t e m s o f f e r e x c e p -
t i o n a l s a f e t y i n n o r m a l d r i v i n g , b u t
t h i s s h o u l d n o t e n c o u r a g e t h e d r i v e r
t o t a k e e x t r a r i s k s o r d r i v e a t h i g h
speed.
The correct functioning of these
s y s t e m s d e p e n d s o n o b s e r v a t i o n o f
the manufacturer's recommenda-
tions regarding the wheels (tyres
and rims), the braking components,
the electronic components and the
PEUGEOT assembly and operation
procedures.
A f t e r a n i m p a c t , h a v e t h e s e s y s t e m s
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Activation of the ASR and ESP
systems
When the ignition is on, the ASR and
E S P s y s t e m s a r e a l w a y s a c t i v e .
These systems are linked and com-
plement the ABS.
T h e A S R s y s t e m o p t i m i s e s d r i v e t o
p r e v e n t t h e w h e e l s s k i d d i n g , b y a c t -
i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v e w h e e l s
and on the engine. It also allows the
d i r e c t i o n a l s t a b i l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e t o
b e i m p r o v e d o n a c c e l e r a t i o n .
I f t h e r e i s a v a r i a t i o n b e t w e e n t h e t r a -
j e c t o r y f o l l o w e d b y t h e v e h i c l e a n d
t h a t r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , t h e E S P
system automatically acts on the
engine and the brake of one or more
w h e e l s , i n o r d e r t o p u t t h e v e h i c l e
back on course, within the limits of
the laws of physics.

SEAT BELTS
Additional seat belt warnings
Version with monochrome display
A or C
1. Multifunction display.
2. Warning light indicating that
a passenger's seat belt is
not fastened or has been
unfastened.
3. Front passenger's seat belt not
fastened warning.
4. Rear right passenger's seat belt
unfastened warning.
5. Rear left passenger's seat belt
unfastened warning.
Fastening
Slide your arm along the door
and take hold of the seat belt at
the base. This action must be
carried out with the door closed
t o a v o i d a n y r i s k o f t r a p p i n g .
Insert the buckle in the stalk.
Check that the seat belt is
fastened correctly by pulling the
strap.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the stalk.
Front seat belts
S a f e t y i n t h e e v e n t o f a f r o n -
t a l i m p a c t h a s b e e n i m p r o v e d b y
the introduction of pre-tensioning
and force-limiting front seat belts.
Depending on the seriousness
of the impact, the pre-tensioning
system instantly tightens the seat
b e l t s fi r m l y a g a i n s t t h e b o d y o f t h e
occupant.
The pre-tensioning seat belts are
armed when the ignition is on.
T h e f o r c e - l i m i t i n g d e v i c e r e d u c e s t h e
pressure of the seat belt against the
o c c u p a n t ' s b o d y i n t h e e v e n t o f a n
accident.

Seat belt not fastened warning I f t h e d r i v e r a n d / o r t h e
front passenger has not
fastened his seat belt,
the corresponding warn-
ing light comes on when
the ignition is on, then, at a speed
a b o v e 1 2 m p h ( 2 0 k m / h ) , t h i s i s a c c o m -
p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l t h e v o l u m e
o f w h i c h i n c r e a s e s ( f o r a p p r o x i m a t e l y
two minutes) and a message on the
multifunction display.
Note: a bag or an animal placed on
the front passenger seat may trigger
lighting of the warning light.
Seat belt unfastened warning
I f t h e d r i v e r a n d / o r o n e
of the passengers has
unfastened his seat
belt, the corresponding
warning light comes on
when the engine is running, then, at a
s p e e d a b o v e 1 2 m p h ( 2 0 k m / h ) , t h i s
is accompanied by an audible signal
t h e v o l u m e o f w h i c h i n c r e a s e s ( f o r
a p p r o x i m a t e l y t w o m i n u t e s ) a n d a
message on the multifunction display.
Rear seat belts
T h e r e a r s e a t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h t w o
three-point inertia reel seat belts.
The retaining of the rear seat belt
buckle by the sliding block makes
folding down or complete folding of
the seats easier.
Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the
buckle in the stalk.
Check that the seat belt is
fastened correctly by pulling the
strap.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the stalk.
Version with colour display
I f t h e d r i v e r a n d / o r o n e o f t h e p a s -
sengers has not fastened (or has
unfastened) his seat belt, a message
appears on the multifunction display.

T h e d r i v e r m u s t e n s u r e t h a t
passengers use the seat
belts correctly and that they
are all restrained securely
before setting off. I n o r d e r t o b e e f f e c t i v e , a s e a t b e l t :
- must be tightened as close to the
body as possible,
- must restrain one person of adult size only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- must be pulled in front of you with a s m o o t h m o v e m e n t , c h e c k i n g
that it does not twist,
- must not be transformed or m o d i fi e d t o a v o i d a l t e r i n g i t s
performance.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all repairs and checks
must be carried out by a PEUGEOT
dealer who guarantees that the work
is carried out correctly.
H a v e y o u r s e a t b e l t s c h e c k e d r e g u -
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and parti-
cularly if the straps show signs of
damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
w a t e r o r a t e x t i l e c l e a n i n g p r o d u c t ,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
A f t e r f o l d i n g o r m o v i n g a s e a t o r r e a r
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and rolled up correctly.
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts, the pre-
t e n s i o n i n g d e v i c e m a y b e t r i g g e r e d
before and independently of the air
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
t o t h e a c t i v a t i o n o f t h e p y r o t e c h n i c
cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the air bag warning light
comes on.
F o l l o w i n g a n i m p a c t , h a v e t h e s e a t
belts system checked, and if neces-
sary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.

T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel permitting automatic adjustment
of the length of the strap to your size.
The seat belt is stored automatically
when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is rolled up correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
p e l v i s .
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
