AIR BAGS
T h e a i r b a g s h a v e b e e n d e s i g n e d t o
m a x i m i s e t h e s a f e t y o f t h e o c c u p a n t s
( w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n o f t h e r e a r c e n t r e
p a s s e n g e r ) i n t h e e v e n t o f s e r i o u s
collisions; they work in conjunction
with the force limiting seat belts.
I n t h e e v e n t o f a s e r i o u s c o l l i s i o n ,
the electronic detectors record and
analyse the front and side impacts
suffered in the impact detection
z o n e s ( s e e d i a g r a m ) : i n t h e e v e n t o f
a s e r i o u s i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s i n fl a t e
instantly and protect the occupants
o f t h e v e h i c l e ( w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n o f
the rear centre passenger). Immediately after the impact, the air
b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y , s o t h a t t h e y d o
n o t h i n d e r t h e v i s i b i l i t y o f t h e o c c u -
p a n t s n o r t h e i r p o s s i b l e e x i t f r o m t h e
v e h i c l e .
The air bags will not be deployed in
collisions which are not serious, rear
i m p a c t s o r i n c e r t a i n r o l l - o v e r c o n d i -
t i o n s . T h e s e a t b e l t i s s u f fi c i e n t t o
p r o v i d e m a x i m u m p r o t e c t i o n i n t h e s e
situations.
Air bags only operate when the
ignition is switched on.
This equipment will only operate once.
If a second impact occurs (during the
same or a subsequent accident), the
air bag will not operate.
Note: the triggering of an air
bag or air bags is accompa-
nied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a
n o i s e , d u e t o t h e a c t i v a t i o n o f t h e
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in
the system.
This gas may cause slight irritation.
The noise of the detonation may
result in a slight loss of hearing for a
short time.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
FRONT AIR BAGS
These are folded in the centre of the
s t e e r i n g w h e e l f o r t h e d r i v e r a n d i n
the fascia for the front passenger.
They are deployed simultaneously,
e x c e p t i n c a s e s w h e r e t h e a i r b a g i s
d i s a r m e d , i n t h e e v e n t o f a s e r i o u s
front impact applied in the impact
zone A in the longitudinal centreline,
on a horizontal plane and from the
f r o n t t o w a r d s t h e r e a r o f t h e v e h i c l e .
T h e a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t
o c c u p a n t o f t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e f a s c i a
t o c u s h i o n h i s f o r w a r d m o v e m e n t . I n
this way, the air bags limit the risk of
injury to the head and chest.
Front air bag malfunction
If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
multifunction display, contact
a P E U G E O T d e a l e r t o h a v e t h e s y s -
tem checked. The air bags may no
l o n g e r b e t r i g g e r e d i n t h e e v e n t o f a
serious impact.

Disarming the passenger
air bag
To ensure the safety of your child,
it is essential to disarm the pas-
senger air bag when you install
a "rear-facing" child seat on the
front passenger seat. Otherwise,
the child would risk being seri-
ously injured or killed if the air bag
w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
With the ignition switched off,
insert the key into the passenger
air bag disarming switch 1 , turn
it to the "OFF" position, then
r e m o v e t h e k e y k e e p i n g t h e s l o t
in this position.
In the "OFF" position, the passenger
air bag will not be triggered in the
e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t .
A s s o o n a s t h e c h i l d s e a t i s r e m o v e d ,
turn the air bag slot to the "ON"
p o s i t i o n t o r e - a c t i v a t e t h e a i r b a g a n d
thus ensure the safety of your pas-
s e n g e r i n t h e e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t . With the ignition on (2nd notch),
illumination of this warning light
accompanied by a message
on the multi function display,
indicates that the passenger air bag is
disarmed (switch in the "OFF" position).
The warning light on the instrument
panel remains on until the passenger
a i r b a g i s r e a c t i v a t e d .
I n t h e e v e n t o f p e r m a n e n t
lighting of the two air bag
warning lights, do not install
a rear-facing child seat.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Steering column air bag
The steering column air bag protects
t h e d r i v e r ' s k n e e s i n t h e e v e n t o f a
serious front impact.
It is incorporated in the fascia below
the steering column. SIDE AIR BAGS AND
CURTAIN AIR BAGS
The side air bags are incorporated into the front seat backs on the door side.
The triggering of these air bags re-quires a serious side impact applied in the side impact zone B , perpen-dicular to the longitudinal centreline o f t h e v e h i c l e , o n a h o r i z o n t a l p l a n e a n d f r o m t h e o u t s i d e o f t h e v e h i c l e towards the inside. The side air bag i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t o c c u p a n t o f t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e d o o r t r i m p a d . It therefore limits the risk of injury to the chest.
The rear side air bags afford the rear passengers the same protection which the front side air bags offer the front passengers.
The curtain air bags are incorporated in the headlining.
T h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n the front or rear occupant and the windows. It therefore limits the risk of h e a d i n j u r i e s . I n t h e e v e n t o f a m i n o r i m p a c t o r b u m p o n t h e s i d e o f t h e v e - h i c l e o r i f t h e v e h i c l e r o l l s o v e r , t h e air bag may not be triggered. The air b a g i s n o t t r i g g e r e d i n t h e e v e n t o f a front or rear collision.

of harmless smoke and a noise due

cartridge incorporated in the sys-
tem. This smoke is not harmful but
s e n s i t i v e i n d i v i d u a l s m a y e x p e r i e n c e
some irritation.
The detonation noise may result in
a slight loss of hearing for a short
time.
E v e n i f a l l o f t h e p r e c a u t i o n s m e n -
t i o n e d a r e o b s e r v e d , i n j u r y o r s l i g h t
burns to the head, chest or arms when
the air bag is triggered cannot be ruled

Front air bags

wheel by its spokes or resting your
hands on the centre part of the
wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet
on the fascia.
Smoke as little as possible; deploy-
ment of the air bags can cause burns
or the risk of injury from a cigarette
or pipe.

For the front, steering column,
side and curtain air bags to be fully
effective, observe the following
safety rules:
Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.
Sit in a normal upright position.
D o n o t l e a v e a n y t h i n g b e t w e e n t h e
occupants and the air bags (child,
animal, object...). This could hamper
the operation of the air bags or injure
the occupants.
All work on the air bag systems is
strictly prohibited unless it is car-
r i e d o u t b y q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e
PEUGEOT network.
A f t e r a n a c c i d e n t o r i f t h e v e h i c l e h a s
b e e n s t o l e n o r b r o k e n i n t o , h a v e t h e
air bag systems checked.

air bag

When the vehicle is being
driven, illumination of this
warning light and of the STOP
warning light, accompanied
by an audible signal and a message
on the multifunction display, indicates
that the handbrake is still on or has
not been properly released.
When parking on a slope, di-
rect your wheels to immobilise
them against the pavement,
pull the handbrake and engage
a gear.
"2 TRONIC" GEARBOX
T h e fi v e - s p e e d c o n t r o l l e d m a n u a l
gearbox offers a choice between the
comfort of automatic regulation or the
pleasure of manual gear changing.
HANDBRAKE
Gear lever positions
N : neutral.
With your foot on the brake, select
this position to start.
R
: reverse gear.
With the vehicle stationary, keep your
foot on the brake pedal and push the
gear lever upwards.
Selection of reverse gear is accom-
panied by an audible signal.
A
: automated mode.
Move the lever downwards to select
this mode.
M +/-: sequential mode with manual
gear changing.
Applying
Pull the handbrake to immobilise
your vehicle.
It consists of the following controls:
- a gear lever 1 on the centre
console for selecting the driving
mode, reverse gear and neutral
or for changing gear in sequential
mode,
- a "-" steering wheel control 2
for sequential downward gear
changes,
- a "+" steering wheel control 3 for
sequential upward gear changes.
Releasing
Pull on the handle and press the
button to release the handbrake.
This gearbox enables you to access
two driving modes:
- an automated mode for automatic
control of the gears by the gear-
box and therefore without any
action on the part of the driver,
- a sequential mode for manual changing of the gears by the

Switching to automated mode Reinitialisation
Following disconnection of the battery,
the gearbox must be reinitialised: The brake pedal must be
pressed while starting the
engine.
Never select neutral N while the vehi-
cle is moving.
Only engage reverse gear R with the
vehicle immobilised and the brake
pedal pressed.
In all cases, it is imperative that
you apply the handbrake in order to
immobilise the vehicle.
On a steep gradient, it is preferable
to switch to sequential mode.
"Auto sequential" mode
In the automated mode, you can
resume control temporarily at any
time using the steering wheel controls.
The use of these controls permits
manual selection of the gears in situ-
ations which require a faster change-
down than that offered in automated
m o d e ( a r r i v a l a t a r o u n d a b o u t , e x i t
from a car park with a steep gradient,
overtaking...).
The gearbox engages the gear re-
quested if the engine speed permits
it.
"AUTO" is still displayed on the
instrument panel.
After a few moments, the gearbox
again controls the gears automatically.
Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you
can:
- move to position N to leave the
gearbox in neutral.
- leave a gear engaged, such as fi r s t o r r e v e r s e .
In both cases, it is imperative that
you apply the handbrake to immobi-
lise the vehicle. Operating anomaly
W i t h t h e i g n i t i o n o n , t h e fl a s h i n g o f
"AUTO" and lighting of the service
warning light, accompanied by an
audible signal and a message on the
multifunction display, indicate a gear-
box malfunction.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer without
delay.
If you press the accelerator
pedal beyond the point of
resistance, the gearbox
selects the gear below to
permit sharper acceleration. - switch on the ignition,
"AUTO"
and "-" appear on the instrument
panel display,
- press the brake pedal,
- wait approximately 30 seconds until "N" or a gear appears on
the instrument panel display,
- release the brake pedal.
The gearbox is operational again.
Automated mode
After using the sequential mode, you
can return to the automated mode by
selecting position
A .
"AUTO" and the gear engaged appear
on the instrument panel display.
The gearbox then operates in auto-
active mode, without any action on
the part of the driver.
It continuously selects the gear most
suited to the following parameters:
- driving style,
- road characteristics,
- vehicle load.
To optimise driving comfort and
obtain the most suitable gear, avoid
sharp variations in the pressure on
the accelerator pedal.

If there is an operating fault,
when reverse gear is enga-
ged, the service warning
light comes on, accompa-
nied by an audible signal
( s h o r t b l e e p ) a n d a m e s s a g e
on the multifunction display.
In bad or wintry weather, ensure that
the sensors are not covered with
mud, frost or snow.
Deactivation
With the engine running, press button A
to deactivate the system permanently.
The indicator light on the button comes
on.
The system will be deactivated
automatically when towing a trailer or
w h e n a b i c y c l e c a r r i e r i s fi t t e d ( v e h i c l e
fi t t e d w i t h a t o w b a r o r b i c y c l e c a r r i e r
recommended by PEUGEOT ).
Reactivation
Press button A again to reactivate
the system. The indicator light on the
button is switched off.

CHECKING THE LEVELS
There are two marks on
the dipstick:
A = maximum
N e v e r fi l l p a s t t h i s m a r k .
B = minimum
Dipstick
Oil change
According to the information given in
the servicing booklet. Changing the brake fluid

stated, according to the
manufacturer's servicing
schedule.

wash level
For best quality cleaning and
for your safety, we would ad-
vise that you use products
recommended by PEUGEOT .
When the level is low, this is indicated
by an audible signal and a message
on the multifunction display.
Viscosity selection
In all cases, the oil selected must
meet the manufacturer's require-
ments.
Cooling system
U s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m m e n d e d b y t h e
manufacturer.
When the engine is warm, the tem-
perature of the coolant is controlled
by the engine fan. As this fan can ope
rate with the ignition key removed and
because the cooling system is pres-
surised, wait for at least one hour after
the engine has stopped before carry-
ing out any work.
Slacken the cap by two turns to re-
lease the pressure to prevent any
risk of scalding. When the pressure
has dropped, remove the cap and
top up the level. Diesel additive level (Diesel
with particle emission filter)
Lighting of the service warning light,
accompanied by a message and an
audible signal, indicates that the die-
sel additive level is low.
This additive must be topped up.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon
as possible.
To maintain the reliability of
engines and emission control
systems, the use of additives
in engine oil is prohibited. Used oil
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil
with the skin.

very corrosive.
Note
: the coolant does not need to
be changed.
The level must always be
above the MIN mark and
close to the MAX mark. Do not dispose of used oil,
b r a k e fl u i d o r c o o l a n t i n t o
drains or into the ground.
Oil level
Check the level regularly
and top up between chang-
es. The maximum consump-
tion is 0.5 l per 600 miles
(1 000 km).
Check the level with the vehicle level,
engine cold, using the oil level gauge
on the instrument panel or the dip-
stick.
