SAFETY

AIR BAGS Front airbags
System which protects the head and
chest of the driver and front passenger
in the event of a front impact.
The driver’s airbag is incorporated in
the centre of the steering wheel; the
front passenger’s airbag is incorporated
in the dashboard above the glove box.
Activation
The airbags are triggered simultaneous-
ly, unless the passenger’s front airbag
is deactivated, in the event of a serious
front impact applied to all or part of the
front impact zone A , in the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the front to the
rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
front occupant of the vehicle and the
dashboard to cushion their forward
movement. Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
System designed to maximise the safety of the occupants (with the exception of the rear centre passenger) in the event of violent collisions. It supplements the action of the force-limiting seat belts.
If a collision occurs, the electronic de-tectors record and analyse the front and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones:
- in the case of a serious impact, the air bags are triggered instantly and protect the occupants of the vehicle (with the exception of the rear centre passenger); immediately after the i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y so that they do not hinder visibility or the exit of the occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact or in certain roll-over conditions, the air bags will not be triggered; the s e a t b e l t a l o n e i s s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o -vide optimum protection in these situations.

For the airbags to be fully
effective, observe the following
safety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position.
W e a r a c o r r e c t l y a d j u s t e d s e a t b e l t .
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the airbags (a child,
p e t , o b j e c t . . . ) . T h i s c o u l d h a m p e r t h e
o p e r a t i o n o f t h e a i r b a g s o r i n j u r e t h e
occupants.
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked.
All work on the airbag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e P E U G E O T
dealer network.
Even if all of the precautions men-
tioned above are observed, a risk of
i n j u r y o r o f s l i g h t b u r n s t o t h e h e a d ,
chest or arms when an airbag is trig-
gered cannot be ruled out. In fact, the
b a g i n fl a t e s a l m o s t i n s t a n t l y ( w i t h i n a
f e w m i l l i s e c o n d s ) t h e n d e fl a t e s w i t h i n
the same time discharging hot gas via
the openings provided for this pur-
pose. Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resti
ng your hands on
the centre part of the wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard.
Smoke as little as possible as deployment of the airbags can cau se burns or the
r i s k o f i n j u r y f r o m a c i g a r e t t e o r p i p e .
Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Side airbags *
O n l y p u t a p p r o v e d c o v e r s o n t h e s e a t s . T h e s e w i l l n o t h i n d e r t h e i n fl a t i o n o f t h e
side airbags. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e s e a t b a c k s . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e
c h e s t o r a r m s w h e n t h e s i d e a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nea rer to the door than necessary.
Curtain airbags *
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e r o o f . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e h e a d
w h e n t h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not remove the grab handles installed on the ro of, they play a part in securing
the curtain airbags.

When parking on a slope, direct
your wheels against the pavement,
pull the parking brake on and en-
gage a gear.
PARKING BRAKE
Mechanical brake to hold the vehicle when stationary.
Applying
Pull the parking brake to immobilise
your vehicle. When the vehicle is being driv-
en, if this warning lamp and the
STOP warning lamp come on,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the multi-
function screen, this indicates that the
parking brake is still on or has not been
properly released.
Releasing
Pull on the handle and press the but-
ton A to release the parking brake.

"2 TRONIC" GEARBOX
(SALOON)
Five-speed electronically controlled
gearbox which offers a choice between
the comfort of automatic operation or
the pleasure of manual gear changing.
Three driving modes are offered:
- the automated mode for automatic
control of the gears by the gearbox,
- the sequential mode for manual
changing of the gears by the driver,
- the auto sequential mode for over-
taking, for example, remaining in
the automated mode while using the
functions of the sequential mode.
R . Reverse
With your foot on the brake, move the
lever upwards to select this position.
N . Neutral.
With your foot on the brake, select
this position to start the engine.
A . Automated mode.
Move the lever downwards to select
this mode.
M

+ / - Sequential mode with manual
gear changing.
Move the lever downwards, then to
the left to select this mode, then:
- push forwards to change up a gear,
- or push rearwards to change down a gear.

permit the selection of neutral or
the engaging and disengaging of
reverse gear.

"Auto sequential" mode
In the automated mode, you can resume
control temporarily at any time using the
steering wheel controls.
The use of these controls permits man-
ual selection of the gears in situations
which require a more rapid change-down
than in the automated mode (arrival at
a roundabout, leaving a car park with a
steep gradient, overtaking...).
The gearbox engages the required gear if
the engine speed permits. AUTO remains
displayed on the instrument panel.
After a few minutes, the gearbox re-
sumes automatic control of the gears. "Snow" automated mode
In the automated mode, if the vehi-
cle detects poor grip, the gearbox will
change automatically to the "snow" au-
tomated mode.
Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you can
change to position
N to be in neutral.
In this case, it is imperative that you ap-
ply the parking brake to immobilise the
vehicle.
Reinitialisation
Following disconnection of the battery,
the gearbox must be reinitialised.
Switch on the ignition. Operating fault
With the ignition on, if this warn-
ing lamp comes on and AUTO
fl a s h e s , a c c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u -
dible signal and a message on
the multifunction screen, this indicates
a gearbox malfunction.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
You must press the brake pedal
while starting the engine.
Never select neutral N while the
vehicle is moving.
Only engage reverse gear R when
the vehicle is immobilised, with
your foot on the brake pedal.
In all cases, it is imperative that you
apply the parking brake to immobi-
lise the vehicle.
If you press the accelerator pedal
beyond the point of resistance, the
gearbox selects the gear below to
permit sharper acceleration.
AUTO and appear on the
instrument panel.
AUTO , and - appear on the
instrument panel.
Select position N .
Press the brake pedal.
Wait approximately 30 seconds until
N or a gear appears on the instru-
ment panel.
Release the brake pedal.
The gearbox is operational again.

SPEED LIMITER
System which prevents the vehicle from exceeding the speed programmed by the driver.
When the programmed speed limit is reached, pressing the accelerator pedal no longer has any effect.
The speed limiter is switched on manu-ally: it requires a programmed speed of at least 20 mph (30 km/h).
The speed limiter is switched off by switched offmanual operation of the control.
The programmed speed can be ex-ceeded temporarily by pressing the ac- c e l e r a t o r fi r m l y .
To return to the programmed speed, simply slow down to a speed below the programmed speed.
The programmed speed remains in the memory when the ignition is switched off.
The controls of this system are grouped together on stalk A .

CRUISE CONTROL
System which automatically maintains the speed of the vehicle at the value programmed by the driver, without any action on the accelerator pedal.
The cruise control is switched onmanually: it requires a minimum vehicle speed of 25 mph (40 km/h), as well as the engaging:
-of fourth gear on the manual gearbox,
- of second gear with the "2 Tronic" or automatic gearbox, in sequential mode,
- of position A on the "2 Tronic" gear-box or D on the automatic gearbox.
The cruise control is switched off manu- offally or by pressing the brake or clutch pedal or on triggering of the ESP system for safety reasons.
It is possible to exceed the programmed speed temporarily by pressing the ac-celerator pedal.
To return to the programmed speed, simply release the accelerator pedal.
Switching off the ignition cancels any programmed speed value.

together on stalk A .

This repair kit is available from
PEUGEOT dealers.
It is designed to repair most punc-
tures which could affect the tyre, lo-
cated on the tyre tread or shoulder.
Avoid removing any foreign bodies
which have penetrated the tyre.
TEMPORARY PUNCTURE
REPAIR KIT
Complete system consisting of a com-
pressor and an incorporated sealant
cartridge which permits temporary re-
pair of the tyre so that you can drive to
the nearest garage. Using the kit
This procedure, comprising several
steps, must be carried out in full.
Switch off the ignition.
Turn the selector A to the "SEALANT"
position.
Check that the switch B is in posi-
tion "0" .
Connect the white pipe C to the
valve of the tyre to be repaired.
Connect the compressor's electric
plug to the vehicle's 12 V socket.

that a wheel is in temporary use.
Start the vehicle and leave the
engine running.

If after around 5 to 7 minutes the
pressure is not attained, this indi-
cates that the tyre is not repairable;
contact a PEUGEOT dealer for as-
sistance.
Switch on the compressor by moving
the switch B to position "1" until the
tyre pressure reaches 2.0 bars.
Remove the kit, taking care to avoid
to avoid staining your vehicle with
t r a c e s o f fl u i d . K e e p t h e k i t t o h a n d .
D r i v e i m m e d i a t e l y f o r a p p r o x i m a t e -
l y t h r e e m i l e s ( fi v e k i l o m e t r e s ) , a t
reduced speed (between 15 and
3 5 m p h [ 2 0 a n d 6 0 k m / h ] ) , t o p l u g
the puncture.
Stop to check the repair and the tyre
pressure using the kit.
Turn the selector A to the AIR position.
Connect the black pipe D to the
valve of the wheel. Checking/Adjusting tyre
pressures
You can also use this kit for rou-
tine checking and adjustment of
the tyre pressures on your vehicle.
For this, carry out just the following
6 points.

CHANGING A WHEEL *
Procedure for changing a faulty wheel
for the spare wheel using the tools pro-
vided with the vehicle.
The tools are installed in the boot under

bolts.
2. Jack with integral handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. "Bolt cover" tool.
Permits removal of the bolt pro- t e c t o r s ( c o v e r s ) o n a l l o y w h e e l s .
4. Socket for the security bolts (lo-
c a t e d i n t h e g l o v e b o x ) .
Permits adaptation of the wheel- brace to the special "security"
bolts.
5. Removable towing eye.
Refer to the paragraph "Towing
the vehicle".
Other accessories
Wheel with trim
When removing the wheel , detach
t h e t r i m fi r s t u s i n g t h e w h e e l b r a c e 1
pulling at the valve passage hole.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g t h e w h e e l , r e fi t t h e
trim starting by placing its notch
facing the valve and press around
its edge with the palm of your
hand.
A l l o f t h e s e t o o l s a r e s p e c i fi c t o y o u r
vehicle. Do not use them for other
purposes.
