Recommendations for approved lubricants
The oils which appear in the tableopposite are suitable for most purposes. The diagram opposite states the optimum range of viscosity depen-ding on the temperatures at which theoils are to be used. It is also possible to use synthetic oils of Ôsuperior qualityÕ. In the absence of semi-synthetic or
synthetic oils, oils of API SH/SJquality (for petrol engines), or CD/CF(for diesel engines) may be used byfollowing the ÔArduous ConditionsÕmaintenance schedule which speci-fies shorter intervals. Do not hesitate to ask for advice from
a PEUGEOT dealer to maintaindriving pleasure and to minimise themaintenance cost of your vehicle. For countries outside Europe, please

Handbrake Application When you have parked the vehicle, pull up the handbrake to apply it.
To ease application and release of the handbrake, press the brake pedal andpull up the handbrake with the enginerunning. Release Press the button before releasing the handbrake.THE ABS ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM* In conjunction with tyres of an approved make and in good condi-
tion, the ABS system with electronicbrake force distribution improves thestability and handling of your vehicle,particularly on an uneven or slipperysurface. The anti-lock braking system comes into operation automatically whenthere is a risk of wheel lock.
Manual gearbox The positions are indicated on the gear lever knob. Reverse gear can only be engaged from neutral when the vehicle is
stationary, with the engine idling. Special features of the six speedgearbox* Raise the lock ring under theknob beforeengaging reverse. In the event of emergency braking,press very firmly without reducingthe pressure. In some conditions
the normal operation of the ABSmay be felt as vibrations of thebrake pedal.

Power steering
This is a comfort device which offers the best compromise for parking, andfor driving at high speeds.

Windscreen and headlamp wash reservoir* For best quality cleaning and for your
safety, we recommend that you useproducts approved by PEUGEOT(capacity 4,4 litres or 6 litres withheadlight wash). Battery
At the start of winter, have your battery checked by a PEUGEOT
dealer. Air filter Regular replacement of the filter element is essential. If you drive invery dusty conditions, change it twiceas often. Brake pads Brake pad wear depends on the style of driving, in particular for vehicleswhich are used in town or for shortjourneys or which are driven in a
sporty manner, it may be necessaryto check the thickness of the padseven between services. Manual gearbox This does not need an oil change. Check the level according to the
manufacturerÕs service schedule. Autoadaptive automatic gearbox This does not need an oil change: have the level checked by a
