EMERGENCY BRAKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
In an emergency, this system ena-
bles the optimum braking pressure to
be reached more quickly, thus reduc-
i n g t h e s t o p p i n g d i s t a n c e .
It is triggered by the speed at which
t h e b r a k e p e d a l i s a c t i v a t e d . T h e e f -
fect of this is a reduction in the resist-
ance of the pedal and an increase in
b r a k i n g e f i c i e n c y .
ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) AND ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION (EBFD)
The ABS, in conjunction with the
electronic brake force distribution,
increases the stability and manoeu-
v r a b i l i t y o f y o u r v e h i c l e o n b r a k i n g ,
in particular on poor or slippery road
s u r f a c e s .
Note: when changing wheels (tyres
a n d r i m s ) , m a k e s u r e t h a t t h e s e a r e
a p p r o v e d .
The anti-lock braking system comes
into operation automatically when
t h e r e i s a r i s k o f w h e e l l o c k .
When this warning light
comes on, accompanied
by a buzzer and a mes-
sage, it indicates that there
is a malfunction of the ABS,
which can cause a loss of control of
t h e v e h i c l e w h e n b r a k i n g . When this warning light
comes on, connected to
the
STOP and ABS warn-
ing lights, accompanied by
a buzzer and a message,
it indicates that there is a
malfunction of the electronic brake
force distribution, which can cause
a l o s s o f c o n t r o l o f t h e v e h i c l e w h e n
b r a k i n g .
Stop immediately.
In both cases, consult a PEUGEOT
d e a l e r .
Normal operation of the ABS may
m a k e i t s e l f f e l t b y s l i g h t v i b r a t i o n s
o f t h e b r a k e p e d a l .
In emergency braking, press

TRACTION CONTROL (ASR) AND DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESP)
These systems are linked and com-
p l e m e n t t h e A B S .
T h e A S R s y s t e m o p t i m i s e s d r i v e t o
p r e v e n t t h e w h e e l s s k i d d i n g , b y a c t -
i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v e w h e e l s
a n d o n t h e e n g i n e . I t a l s o a l l o w s t h e
d i r e c t i o n a l s t a b i l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e t o
b e i m p r o v e d o n a c c e l e r a t i o n .
I f t h e r e i s a v a r i a t i o n b e t w e e n t h e t r a -
j e c t o r y f o l l o w e d b y t h e v e h i c l e a n d
t h a t r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , t h e E S P
system automatically acts on the en-
gine and the brake of one or more
w h e e l s , i n o r d e r t o p u t t h e v e h i c l e
back on course, within the limits of
t h e l a w s o f p h y s i c s . I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( s t a r t i n g a
v e h i c l e w h i c h i s b o g g e d d o w n , s t u c k
i n s n o w , o n s o f t g r o u n d , . . . ) , i t m a y
b e a d v i s a b l e t o d i s a r m t h e A S R a n d
ESP systems, so that the wheels can
m o v e f r e e l y a n d r e g a i n g r i p .

cated on the central section of the

Activation of the ASR and ESP
systems
W h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n , t h e A S R a n d
E S P s y s t e m s a r e a l w a y s a c t i v e .
The switch lights up and

These are triggered again:
automatically if the ignition is
switched off,

Pull the strap, then insert the

on, the warning light comes

With the engine running and the
doors closed, the light switches off

- a b o v e 1 2 m p h ( 2 0 k m / h ) a n d f o r two minutes, the warning light
l a s h e s a c c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e
s i g n a l o f i n c r e a s i n g v o l u m e . O n c e
t h e s e t w o m i n u t e s h a v e e l a p s e d ,
the warning light remains on until
t h e d r i v e r f a s t e n s h i s s e a t b e l t .
Rear seat belts

tion of pre-tensioning and force-lim-
i t i n g f r o n t s e a t b e l t s . D e p e n d i n g o n
the seriousness of the impact, the
pre-tensioning system instantly tight-
e n s t h e s e a t b e l t i r m l y a g a i n s t t h e
b o d y o f t h e o c c u p a n t .
The pre-tensioning seat belts are
a r m e d w h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n .
T h e f o r c e - l i m i t i n g d e v i c e r e d u c e s t h e
pressure of the seat belt against the
chest of the occupant, so increasing
h i s p r o t e c t i o n .

j o u r n e y s . I n o r d e r t o b e e f f e c t i v e , a s e a t b e l t :
- must be tightened as close to the
body as possible,
- must restrain one adult only,
- must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- must be pulled in front of you with a s m o o t h m o v e m e n t , c h e c k i n g
that it does not twist,
- m u s t n o t b e t r a n s f o r m e d o r m o d i i e d t o a v o i d a l t e r i n g i t s p e r f o r m a n c e .
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all repairs and checks
must be carried out by a PEUGEOT
dealer who guarantees that the work
i s c a r r i e d o u t c o r r e c t l y .
H a v e y o u r s e a t b e l t s c h e c k e d r e g u -
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and par-
ticularly if the straps show signs of
d a m a g e .
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
w a t e r o r a t e x t i l e c l e a n i n g p r o d u c t ,
s o l d b y P E U G E O T d e a l e r s .
A f t e r f o l d i n g o r m o v i n g a s e a t o r r e a r
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
i s p o s i t i o n e d a n d r o l l e d u p c o r r e c t l y . Recommendations for children:
- use a suitable child seat if the pas-
s e n g e r i s l e s s t h a n 1 2 y e a r s o l d o r
s h o r t e r t h a n o n e m e t r e i f t y ,
- do not use the strap-guide * when a c h i l d s e a t i s i n s t a l l e d .
- n e v e r u s e t h e s a m e s e a t b e l t t o secure more than one person,
- n e v e r a l l o w a c h i l d t o t r a v e l o n y o u r l a p .
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , the pre-
t e n s i o n i n g d e v i c e m a y b e t r i g g e r e d
before and independently of the air
b a g s . T r i g g e r i n g o f t h e p r e - t e n s i o n e r s
is accompanied by a slight emission
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
t o t h e a c t i v a t i o n o f t h e p y r o t e c h n i c
c a r t r i d g e i n c o r p o r a t e d i n t h e s y s t e m .
In all cases, the air bag warning light
c o m e s o n .
F o l l o w i n g a n i m p a c t , h a v e t h e s e a t
belts system checked, and if neces-
s a r y r e p l a c e d , b y a P E U G E O T d e a l e r .
D o n o t i n v e r t t h e s e a t b e l t b u c k l e s a s
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l i l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
I f t h e s e a t s h a v e a r m r e s t s * , t h e l a p
part of the seat belt must always
p a s s u n d e r t h e a r m r e s t .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel permitting automatic adjustment
o f t h e l e n g t h o f t h e s t r a p t o y o u r s i z e .
The seat belt is stored automatically
w h e n n o t i n u s e .
Before and after use, ensure that the
s e a t b e l t i s r o l l e d u p c o r r e c t l y .
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
p e l v i s .
The upper part must be positioned in
t h e h o l l o w o f t h e s h o u l d e r .
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e i t t e d w i t h a n a u -
t o m a t i c l o c k i n g d e v i c e w h i c h c o m e s
i n t o o p e r a t i o n i n t h e e v e n t o f a c o l l i -
sion, on emergency braking or if the

the front passenger’s air bag is incor-

Activation
The air bags are triggered simultane-
ously, unless the passenger’s front air
b a g i s d i s a r m e d , i n t h e e v e n t o f a s e r i -
ous front impact applied to all or part
of the front impact zone A , in the lon-
g i t u d i n a l c e n t r e l i n e o f t h e v e h i c l e o n a
horizontal plane and directed from the
f r o n t t o t h e r e a r o f t h e v e h i c l e .
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n l a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
f r o n t o c c u p a n t o f t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e
f a s c i a t o c u s h i o n h i s f o r w a r d m o v e -
m e n t . Deactivation
If both air bag warning lights
come on continuously, do not
install a "rear facing" child seat
o n t h e f r o n t p a s s e n g e r s e a t .

Only the front passenger’s air bag

key in the passenger air bag dis-
arming switch 1 ,
turn it to the "OFF" position,

s w i t c h i n t h i s p o s i t i o n .
This warning light comes
on on the instrument panel
when the ignition is on and
u n t i l t h e a i r b a g i s r e - a r m e d . Reactivation
W h e n y o u r e m o v e t h e c h i l d s e a t , t u r n
switch
1 to the "ON" position to re-
arm the air bag and so guarantee the
safety of your front passenger in the
e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t .
To guarantee the safety of
y o u r c h i l d , i t i s i m p e r a t i v e
that the passenger air bag
is disarmed when you install
a "rear facing" child seat on
t h e f r o n t p a s s e n g e r s e a t .
Otherwise, the child would risk be-
ing seriously injured or killed if the air
b a g w e r e t r i g g e r e d .

HANDBRAKE
Applying
Pull the handbrake to immobilise
your vehicle. When the vehicle is being
driven, illumination of
this warning light and
of the STOP warning
light, accompanied by an
audible signal and a message on the
multifunction etdisplay, indicates that
the handbrake is still on or has not
been properly released.
When parking on a slope,
direct your wheels towards
the pavement and pull the
handbrake.
Releasing
Pull on the handle and press the
button to release the handbrake.
The four or six speed automatic
gearbox offers a choice between
the comfort of integral automatic
operation , enhanced by a sport and
a snow programme, or manual gear
changing .
P ark: to immobilise the vehicle or
start the engine , with the handbrake
on or off.
R everse: to reverse (select this
position with the vehicle stationary,
engine at idle).
N eutral: to start the engine and to
park , with the handbrake on.
Note: if position N is engaged
inadvertently while driving, allow
the engine to return to idle before
engaging position D to accelerate.
D rive: for driving in automatic
mode.
M anual: to select the gears.
S : sport programme.
: snow programme.
Gear selection gate
Move the lever in the gate to
select a position.
The indicator light for the selection is displayed on the instrument
panel display.
Starting the engine
with the handbrake applied,
select position P or N in the gate,
turn the ignition key to the
Starting position.
Otherwise, you are warned by an
audible signal and a message on the
multifunction display.
