TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)
AND DYNAMIC STABILITY
CONTROL (ESP) These systems are linked and com-
plement the ABS.
The ASR system optimises drive to prevent the wheels skidding, byacting on the brakes of the drivewheels and on the engine. It alsoallows the directional stability of thevehicle to be improved on accelera-tion. If there is a variation between the tra- jectory followed by the vehicle and
that required by the driver, the ESPsystem automatically acts on theengine and the brake of one or morewheels, in order to put the vehicleback on course. Operating checkWhen a malfunction of the system occurs, the indicatorlight comes on, accompa-nied by an audible signaland the message
"ESP/ASR not operational" on the
multi-function display.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system checked.

The ESP system offers increased safety duringnormal driving, but shouldnot incite the driver totake risks or to drive at
high speed. The operation of the system is ensured to the extent to which therecommendations of the manufac-turer regarding the wheels (tyresand wheel rims), the braking com-ponents, the electronic compo-nents and the assembly and repairprocedures within the PEUGEOTnetwork are observed. After an impact, have the system
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
EMERGENCY BRAKING
ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
In an emergency, this system enables the optimum braking
pressure to be reached more quickly, thus reducing the stopping distance. It is triggered according to the speed
of activation of the brake pedal. The
effect of this is a reduction in theresistance of the pedal and an
increase in braking efficiency.

AIR BAGS The air bags have been designed to maximise the safety of the occupantsin the event of serious collisions. They works in conjunction with theforce-limiting seat belts. The electronic detectors register and analyse any abrupt deceleration ofthe vehicle: if the triggering thresholdis reached the air bags inflate ins-tantly and protect the occupants ofthe vehicle. Immediately after the impact, the air
bags deflate rapidly, so that they donot hinder the visibility of the occu-pants and their exit if necessary fromthe vehicle. The air bags are not deployed in the case of collisions which are notserious, for which the seat belt is suf-ficient to ensure maximum protec-
tion. The seriousness of a collisiondepends on the nature of the obs-tacle and the speed of the vehicle atthe moment of the collision. Air bags only operate when the ignition is switched on. Note: the gas escaping from the
cushion can be a minor irritant. FRONT AIR BAGS These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in
the fascia for the front passenger.
They are deployed simultaneously, except in cases where the air bag isdisarmed. Front air bag fault
If this warning light comes on, accompanied by anaudible signal and the mes-sage "Air bag fault" on the
multi-function display,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer to havethe system checked. Disarming the passenger air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the pas-senger air bag when you install arear-facing child seat on the frontpassenger seat.
With the ignition switched off, insert the key into the passengerair bag disarming slot 1, turn it to
the "OFF" position, then remove
it keeping the slot in this position.
The air bag warning light on the ins-trument panel is lit throughout thedisarming process.

In the "OFF" position, the passenger
air bag will not be triggered in the event of an impact. As soon as the child seat is remo- ved, turn the air bag slot to the "ON"
position to re-activate the air bag andthus ensure the safety of your pas-senger in the event of an impact. Operating check This is confirmed by an indicator light, accompanied by an audiblesignal and a message on the multi-
function display.
With the ignition on (2ndnotch), illumination of thiswarning light accompaniedby an audible signal and themessage "Passenger air
bag disarmed" on the multi-function
display, indicates that the passengerair bag is disarmed (slot in the"OFF" position). SIDE AIR BAGS* AND
CURTAIN AIR BAGS* The side air bags are incorporated into the front seat backs on the doorside. The curtain air bags are incorporated into the door pillars and the upperpart of the passenger compartment. They are deployed independently of
each other, on whichever side thecollision occurs. Operating check This is confirmed by an indicator light, accompanied by an audiblesignal and a message on the multi-
function display.
If this indicator light comeson, accompanied by anaudible signal and the mes-sage "Air bag fault" on the
multi-function display,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer to havethe system checked.
