De-activating the passengerÕs airbag *
- With the ignition switched off, insert the key into the switch A.
- Turn the key to the Ò OFFÓ position. The passengerÕs airbag is now de-activated.
- The warning lamp, on the instrument panel, lights up when the ignition is switched on (if it flashes, there is a problem).
To re-activate the passengerÕs airbag
- Do not forget to re-activate the passengerÕs airbag. To do so, with the ignition switched off :
- Insert the key into the switch and turn to the Ò ONÓ position. The passengerÕs
airbag is now re-activated.
- The warning light in the instrument panel lights for six seconds on switching on the ignition.

19I-8THE AIRBAG SYSTEM*
Never place a rearwards facing child seat on the front passenger seat when the vehicle is fitted with an airbag.
Depending on the vehicleÕs equipment, it may be possible to de-activate the
front passengerÕs airbag (see below).
The wearing of seat belts is compulsory in conjunction with the front airbags.Never deactivate the passenger's airbag when the front passenger is present
(with the exception of the use of a rear- facing child seat).

35I-15WARNING LAMPS *
Minimum coolant fluid level warning lamp If the warning lamp lights
up, it is imperative to stop the vehicle. Check the level and takethe precautions detailed in chapter
ÒLEVELS AND CHECKSÓ).
Battery charge warninglamp Should not be on when the engine is running. If it
comes permanently on, contact
your nearest approved Dealer.
Imperative stopwarning lamp Lights up at the same time as ano-
ther visual warning or if the maxi-mum permissible coolant fluid tem-perature is reached.
Engine oil pressurewarning lamp If it lights up while you are
driving, stop the engine, check the
level, (See ÒLEVELS ANDCHECKSÓ). If it remains lit despite the level being correct, contact your nearest
approved Dealer. Warning lamp for hand-brake and for brakefluid level Indicates that the brake
is applied or incorrectly released. Also that the brake fluid level is
insufficient. See ÒBRAKESÓ,
ÒLEVELS AND CHECKSÓ . The warning lamp may also indica- te a malfunction of the electronicbraking distribution.
Engine operation war-ning lamp (autodiagno-sis)
If it flashes or lights up, this indi-cates a malfunctioning of either theinjection, ignition or emissioncontrol systems (depending oncountry). Quickly consult your nearest
approved dealer.
AIRBAG operation war-ning lamp
See ÒTHE AIRBAG SYSTEMÓ. Doors open warninglamp Lights up when swit- ching on ignition.
Goes out when all the doors are
closed correctly.

Direction indicators Left: move the stalk downwards. Right: move the stalk upwards.
To signal a change of direction, move the stalk past the point of resistance. The signal will cancel automatically as the steering wheel returns.
36I-16SIGNALLING
Horn Press the end of the stalk. Headlamp flash Flick the stalk gently towards you.
It is possible to flash the headlamps when the engine is switched off. Hazard warning This operates all the direction indicators at the same time.
Use it only in case of danger,for an emergency stop or in exceptional dri-
ving circumstances.
It can also operate when the ignition is off.The direction indicators will not operate if the vehicle is driven with the hazard warning lights on.

These warning lights are tested with the key in the ignition on position : M
64III-1STEERING LOCK-IGNITION-STARTER
¥ S : Steering lock
To release the steering lock, turn the steering wheel slightly, without forcing it, at the
same time as turning the key.
¥ A : Accessories Allows operation of some electrical accessories (radio, electric windows, map rea-
ders, etc.). The battery charge light comes on. ¥ M : Ignition
The following warning lamps * should illuminate : ABS, preheating (Diesel), battery
charge, STOP, oil pressure, handbrake and brake fluid level, engine autodiagnosis,airbags, door closing. If any of these warning lamps do not illuminate, there is a malfunction. ¥ D : Starter Release the key as soon as the engine has started. Never operate the key with the
engine running (see ÒSTARTING THE ENGINEÓ).
