Onlyworkonyourvehicleoutdoorsorinawellventilatedarea.
Ensurethattherearenoopenflamesintheareaofyourvehicleatanytimewhenfuelfumesmightbepresent.Beespeciallycautiousofsuchdevicessuchashotwaterheaterswhichigniteaflameintermittently.
Beforeworkingonanypartintheenginecom-partment,turntheengineoffandletitcooldownsufficiently.Hotenginecompartmentcomponentscanburnskinoncontact.
Bealertandcautiousaroundengineatalltimeswhiletheengineisrunning.Ifworkhastobeperformedwiththeenginerunning,alwayssettheparkingbrake,andmakesuretheshiftleverisinneutralpositionortheselectorleverinpositionPorN.
Inparticular,beverycarefultoensurethatitemsofclothing(ties,shirt,sleevesetc.),jewelry,longhair,handorfingerscannotgetcaughtintheengine-compartmentblower,fan,beltsorothermovingparts.Theradiatorandradiatorfansareinthefrontofthecar.Theengine-compartmentblowerismountedontheengine-compartmentlid.Theengine-compartmentblowercanstartorcontinuerunningasafunctionoftemperature,evenwiththeengineswitchedoff.Carryoutworkintheseareasonlywiththeengineoff,theignitionswitchedoff,andexerciseextremecaution.
YourPorscheisequippedwithanelectronicignitionsystem.Whentheignitionison,highvoltageispresentinallwiresconnectedwiththeignitionsystem;therefore,exerciseextremecautionwhenworkingonanypartoftheenginewhiletheignitionisonortheengineisrunning.
Alwayssupportyourcarwithsafetystandsifitisnecessarytoworkunderthecar.
Whenworkingunderthecarwithoutsafetystandsbutwiththewheelsontheground,makesurethecarisonlevelground,thewheelsareblocked,andthattheenginecannotbestarted.Removetheignitionkey.
Donotsmokeorallowanopenflamearoundthebatteryorfuel.Keepafireextinguishercloseathand.
Incompleteorimproperservicingmaycauseproblemsintheoperationofthecar.Ifindoubtaboutanyservicing,haveitdonebyyourauthorizedPorschedealer.ImpropermaintenanceduringthewarrantyperiodmayaffectyourPorschewarrantycoverage.
Suppliesoffluids,e.g.engineoil,brakefluidorcoolant,arehazardoustoyourhealth.Keepthesefluidsoutofchildren’sreachanddisposeoftheminaccordancewiththeappropriateregulations.

Thestatusofthecentrallockingandalarmsystemisnotchangedbydisconnectingthebattery.Whenthebatteryisdisconnected,thealarmsystemceasestofunction.
Overloadprotection
Ifthecentrallockingsystemisoperatedmorethantentimeswithinaminute,furtheroperationisblockedfor30seconds.
Loadswitch-offafter2hoursor7days
Iftheignitionkeyisremoved,loadswhichareswitchedonorareinstandbymode(suchastheluggagecompartmentlight,interiorlightandradio)areautomaticallyswitchedoffafterapprox.2hours.
Ifthevehicleisnotstartedorunlockedwiththeremotecontrolwithin7days,theremotecontrolstandbyfunctionisswitchedoff(tosavethevehiclebattery).
1.Inthiscase,unlockthedriver’sdoorwiththekeyatthedoorlock.Leavethedoorclosedinordertopreventthealarmsystemfrombeingtriggered.
2.Pressbutton1ontheremotecontrol.
Theremotecontrolisnowactivatedagain.

Replacingfuses
Inordertopreventdamagetotheelectricalsystemduetoshortcircuitsandoverloads,theindividualcircuitsareprotectedbyfuses.Thefuseboxislocatedinthedriver’sfootwell.
A-PlasticgripperB-Sparefuses
1.Switchofftheloadwiththedefectivefuse.
2.Pulloffplasticcoveratthefingerhole(arrow).Thefuseplanandinstructionsforemer-gencyunlockingoftheluggagecompart-mentlidcanbefoundontheinnersideofthecover.
3.RemovethecorrespondingfusefromitsslotusingtheplasticgripperAinordertocheckit.Ablownfusecanbeidentifiedbythemeltedmetalstrip.
4.Replaceonlywithfusesofthesamerating.

Unlockinglid
1.Usethekeytounlockthevehicleatthedoorlock.
2.Removeplasticcoveroverthefusebox.
3.PulloutpositiveterminalAinthefusebox.
4.UseajumpercabletoconnectthepositiveterminalofthedonorbatterywithpositiveterminalAinthefusebox.
Note
Ifthevehiclewaslocked,thealarmhornwillsoundwhenthenegativecableisconnected.
5.UsethesecondjumpercabletoconnectthenegativeterminalofthedonorbatterywithlatchstrikerB.
6.Unlocktheluggagecompartmentlidwiththeremotecontrol.Thealarmsystemisswitchedoff.
7.Disconnectthenegativecablefirst,thenthepositivecable.
8.PushthepositiveterminalAintothefuseboxandpushontheplasticfuseboxcover.

Keepterminalsandconnectionscleanandproperlytightened.Corrosioncanbepreventedbycoatingtheterminalsandconnectionswithpetroleumjellyorsiliconespray.
Ensurethatventcapsaresecurelytightenedtopreventspillage.
Checkingtheelectrolyteuidlevel
Generally,theelectrolytelevelmustbecheckedmoreofteninsummerthaninthewinter,andmoreoftenwhendrivinglongdistances.
Whenaddingwater,useonlycleancontainers.Innocasemayalcohol(e.g.windowcleanerresidues)bepermittedtoenterthebattery.
Unscrewandopenthefillerventcapsofeachcell.
Withthecaronalevelsurface,thefluidlevelshouldmeettheindicatormarkineachcell.
Ifnecessary,topupwithdistilledwater.Donotuseacid.Onlyfilluptothemark,otherwisetheelectrolytewilloverflowwhenthebatteryisbeingchargedandcausedamage.
Batterycharging
Automotivebatteriesloosetheirefficiencywhennotinuse.Thechargeavailableinyourbatterycanbemeasuredwithabatteryhydrometer.WerecommendthatthebatteryvoltagebetestedbyyourPorschedealerwhohastheappropriateequipment.
Ifthecarisnotdrivenforprolongedperiods,thebatterymustbechargedatleastevery6weeks.Adischargedbatteryallowsrapidformationofsulfates,leadingtoprematuredeteriorationoftheplates.

Hydrogengasgeneratedbythebatterycouldcauseanexplosion,resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
Chargebatteryinawellventilatedarea.

8.Aftercharging,turnoffchargeranddisconnectchargercables.
9.Tightentheventcapsandreinstallbattery.

LetyourPorschedealertestthebattery’scapacitybeforewintersetsin.
Thebatterywilldischargemorequicklyifyourvehicleisnotdrivenonadailybasisoveradistanceofseveralmiles.Themoreoftenyoudriveyourvehicle,andthelongerthedistancedrivenoneachtrip,themoreopportunitythevehicle’schargingsystemwillhavetorechargethebatteries.
Replacingbattery
Theservicelifeofthebatteryissubjecttonormalwear;itdependsgreatlyoncare,climaticcondi-tions,anddrivingconditions(distances,loads).
OnlyuseanoriginalPorschebattery,withthecorrectpartnumber,asareplacement.
Pleaseobservethedisposalinstructionsforbatteries.
Puttingvehicleintooperation
Afterthebatteryisconnectedorafterancom-pletelydischargedbatteryischarged,themul-tifunctionalPSMlightlightsupontheinstrumentpanelandamessageappearsontheon-boardcomputertoindicateafault.
Thisfaultcanberemediedwithafewsimplesteps:
1.Starttheengine.
2.Withthevehiclestationary,performafewsteeringmovementstotheleftandrightandthendriveashortdistanceinastraightlineuntilthemultifunctinalPSMlightgoesoutandthemessageontheon-boardcomputerdisappears.
3.Ifthewarningsdonotdisappear,then:DrivecarefullytothenearestauthorizedPorschedealer.Havethefaultremedied.
4.Afterthewarningsdisappear:Stopthevehicleinasuitableplace.
5.Performadaptationofthepowerwindows:

Ignitionkey/ignitionlock
