Automaticrelocking
Ifthecarisunlockedbyremotecontrolandnoneofthecardoorsisopenedwithinapprox.60seconds,automaticrelockingtakesplace.Thisrelockingtimecanbeadaptedtoyourindividualrequirements(10seconds-100seconds)byanauthorizedPorschedealer.
Lockingconditions
Lockcaronce.Thedoorscannotbeopenedfromtheoutside.Alarmsystemandpassen-gercompartmentmonitoringareswitchedon.
Ifapersonoranimalremainsinthevehicle:
Quicklylockcartwice.Thedoorscannotbeopenedfromtheoutside.Thepassengercompartmentmonitoringisswitchedoff.
Unlockingthedoorwiththeinnerdoorhandle
Anypersonremaininginthelockedcarcanopenthedoorwiththeinnerdoorhandle:
1.Pullinnerdoorhandleoncetounlockdoorlock.
2.Pullinnerdoorhandleagaintoopendoor.
Note
Informanypersonremaininginthecarthatthealarmsystemwillbetriggeredifthedoorisopened.

AirbagSystems
Generalinformation
Theairbagsincombinationwiththesafetybeltsmakeupasafetysystemwhichoffersthedriverandthepassengerthegreatestknownprotectionfrominjuriesincaseofaccident.Yourvehicleisequippedwithaweightsensingsystemforthefrontpassenger’sseatinaccordancewithU.S.Federal/CanadianMotorVehicleSafetyStandard208.
Evenifyourvehicleisequippedwithairbags,thesafetybeltsmustbewornatalltimes,becausethefrontairbagsystemisonlydeployedbyfrontalcollisionswithanimpactofsufficientseverity.
Belowthedeploymentthresholdoftheairbagsystem,andduringtypesofcollisionswhichdonotcausetheactuationofthesystem,thesafetybeltsprovidetheprimaryprotectiontotheoccupantswhencorrectlyworn.Therefore,allpersonswithinthevehiclemustwearsafetybeltsatalltimes(inmanystates,statelawrequirestheuseofsafetybelts).
Pleaseobservethechapter”SAFETYBELTS”onpage48.
Thefrontairbagsarelocatedunderthepaddedsteeringwheelpanelonthedriver’ssideand,onthepassenger’sside,inthedashboard.Thesideairbagsforthefrontseatsareinstalledonthesideintheseatbackrests.Theheadairbagsareinstalledinthedoorlinings.
Danger!
Toprovideoptimaloccupantprotection,air-bagsmustinateatveryhighspeed.Ifyouarenotwearingyoursafetybeltoraretooclosetotheairbagwhenitisdeployed,inat-ingairbagscanresultinseriouspersonalinju-ryordeath.Improperhandlingoftheweightsensingsystemcanunintentionallyimpairswitchingthepassenger’sairbagoffandon.
Makesuretherearenopeople,animalsorobjectsbetweenthedriverorpassengerandtheareaintowhichtheairbaginflates.
Sitbackasfarfromthedashboardorsteeringwheelasispractical,whilestillmaintainingfullvehiclecontrol.
Alwaysholdthesteeringwheelbytheouterrim.Neverrestyourhandsontheairbagpanel.
Alwaysfastenseatbeltsbecausetriggeringoftheairbagsystemdependsontheforceandangleofimpact.
Donottransportheavyobjectsonorinfrontofthepassenger’sseat.Thesecouldimpairthefunctionoftheairbag,theseatbelts,andweightsensing.
Donothangobjects(e.g.jackets,coats,coathangers)overthebackrest.
Alwayskeepthelidofthedoorstoragecom-partmentclosed.Objectsmustnotprotrudeoutofthedoorstoragecompartment.
Nochangesmaybemadetothewiringorcomponentsoftheairbagsystem.
Donotaddanyadditionalcoveringsorstickerstothesteeringwheelorintheareaofthepassenger’sairbag,sideairbagsandheadairbags.Doingsomayadverselyaffectthefunctioningoftheairbagsystemorcauseharmtotheoccupantsiftheairbagsystemshoulddeploy.
Donotmodifytheseatcoverings.Donotattachadditionalcushions,protectivecover-ings,orpillowstothepassenger’sseat.Donotaffixthingstothepassenger’sseatorcov-eritwithothermaterials.Donotcoverthebackofthebackrest.Donotmakechangestothepassenger’sseatandtotheseatbaseframe.
Donotundertakeanywiringforelectricalaccessoryequipmentinthevicinityoftheairbagwiringharnesses.Doingsomaydisabletheairbagsystemorcauseinadvertentinflation.
Ifthewarninglightcomeson,theairbagsystemshouldberepairedimmediatelybyyourauthorizedPorschedealer.

Brakes
Generalinformation
Makeitahabittochecktheoperationofyourbrakesbeforedriving.
Keepinmindthatthebrakingdistanceincreasesveryrapidlyasthespeedincreases.At60mphor100km/h,forexample,itisnottwicebutfourtimeslongerthan30mphor50km/h.Tiretractionisalsolesseffectivewhentheroadsarewetorslippery.
Therefore,alwaysmaintainasafedistancefromthecarinfrontofyou.
VehicleswithoutPorscheCeramic
CompositeBrake(PCCB)
Eventhoughthebrakediscsconsistofalloyedgreycastiron,theywillunavoidablystarttocorrodeifyourcarisparkedforanextendedperiod.Thebrakeswilltendto“rub”asaresult.Thenature,extentandeffectsofcorrosiondependontheamountoftimethevehiclewasparked,whethergranularorliquidroadsaltwasspreadandwhethergrease-dissolvingagentswereusedincarwashes.Ifthebrakingcomfortisnoticeablyimpaired,werecommendhavingthebrakesystemcheckedbyexpertsatanauthorizedPorschedealer.
Brakesystemfunction
YourPorscheisequippedwithapowerassistedhydraulicdualcircuitbrakesystemwithdiscbrakesatthefrontandrear.Bothcircuitsfunctionindependently.Onebrakecircuitoperatesthefrontandtheotheroperatestherear.
Ifonebrakecircuithasfailed,theotherwillstilloperate.However,youwillnoticeanincreasedpedaltravelwhenyouapplythebrakes.Failureofonebrakecircuitwillcausethestoppingdistancetoincrease.

Riskofanaccident,resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.Intheunlikelyeventofhydraulicfailureofonebrakecircuit:
Pushthebrakepedaldownfirmlyandholditinthatposition.Amechanicallinkageactivatesthesecondcircuit,andyouwillbeabletobringthevehicletoastop.
Afterbringingyourvehicletoacompletestop,avoiddrivingthevehicleandinsteadhaveittowedtothenearestauthorizedPorschedealerforrepair.
BrakewarninglightUSA
BrakewarninglightCanada
Ifthewarninglightsintheinstrumentpanelandon-boardcomputergoonwhiledriving,thebrakefluidlevelmaybetoolow,or(ifthebrakepedaltravelhasincreased)oneofthetwobrakecircuitsmayhavefailed.
Agreaterbrakingpressurewillberequired,stoppingdistanceswillbelongerandthebrakingbehaviorwillchange,particularlyincurves.
Withcorrectlyadjustedbrakes,andacorrectlyworkingbrakesystem,thepedaltraveltothepointofbrakeactuationshouldbe1-3/16in.to1-9/16in.or30mmto40mm.Wheneverthebrakepedaltravelexceedsthisdistance,havethebrakesystemchecked.
Brakepedal
Warning!
Riskofanaccident,resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.Anyobstructionofthebrakepedalcouldincreasethestoppingdistance.

SportMode
Function
Asportiercarset-upisobtainedwhenSportmodeisswitchedon.InterventionsbythePorschecontrolsystemsareintentionallyshiftedtowardsgreateragilityanddrivingperformance.
–PASM(PorscheActiveSuspensionManagement)isautomaticallychangedtoSportmode,resultinginastiffersuspensionsetup.
–TheTiptronicSswitchestoasportygear-changingmapandshortensthegearshiftingperiods.Gearchangestakeplacefaster.
–PSM(PorscheStabilityManagement)controlissporty.PSMinterventionstakeplacelaterthaninNormalmode.Thedrivercanmaneuverthevehiclewithgreateragilityatitsperformancelimits,withouthavingtodispensewiththeassistanceofPSMinemergencysituations.Thishelpstoachieveoptimallaptimes,particularlyonracecircuitswithadryroadsurface.
–Theelectronicacceleratorpedalreactssooner,andtheengineismoreresponsivetothrottleinputs.WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thisfunctionisactivatedonlyafterthedriverhasbrieflyreleasedtheacceleratorpedal.
–Therpmlimitercharacteristicis“harder”,i.e.theengineisimmediatelythrottledwhenthe
performancelimitsarereached(onlyinmanualselectionmodeforvehicleswithTiptronicS).
PleaseobservetheappropriatechaptersPSM,PASMandTiptronicS.
SwitchingSportmodeonandoff
PressSPORTbuttoninthecenterconsole.WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thelight-emittingdiodeintheSPORTbuttonislit.
WhenSportmodeisswitchedon,thelogoSPORTappearsnexttothedigitalspeedometer.
SwitchingSportmodeonandoffsimultaneouslyactivatesanddeactivatestheSportmodeofthePASM.IftheSportmodeofthePASMwasactivatedwiththePASMbutton,itwillremainon.
Aftertheignitionisswitchedoff,SportmodeisautomaticallyresettoNormalmode.

GeneralinformationregardingPSM
PSMisanactivecontrolsystemforstabilizationofthevehicleduringextremedrivingmanoeuvres.ThemostrecentversionofPSM(onlyonvehicleswithfour-wheeldrive)improvesthebrakesystemfunctionality.
Warning!
Riskofanaccident,resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.Theincreasedcontrolthatisprovidedshouldnotinduceyoutotakegreaterriskswithyoursafety.Thelimitsdictatedbythelawsofphysicscannotbeovercome,evenwithPSM.Theriskofaccidentsduetoinappropriatespeedcannotbereduced,evenbyPSM.Thedriverbearstheresponsibilityforalldrivingmaneuvers.

AdvantagesofPSM
–Superiortractionandlane-holdingabilityinalldrivingsituations-evenonroadsurfaceswithvaryingfriction.
–Thesystemcompensatesforundesiredvehi-clereactions(Ferrariaeffect)whenthedriverreleasestheacceleratorpedalorbrakesonbends.Thiscompensationfunctionsuptothemaximumlateralacceleration.
–PSMactivelystabilizesthevehicleduringdynamicdrivingmaneuvers(e.g.rapidsteeringmovements,duringlanechangesoronalternatingcurves).
–Improvedbrakingstabilityincurvesandondifferentorvaryingroadsurfaces.
–Itimprovesthebrakingfunctionsandshortensthestoppingdistanceifemergencybrakingisneeded(onlyvehicleswithfour-wheeldrive).

deviatesfromthedesiredcourse(steering-wheelposition):Itbrakesindividualwheelsasneeded.Inaddition,theenginepowermaybemanipulatedinordertostabilizethevehicle.
TheeventsbelowinformthedriverofPSMcontroloperationsandwarnhimtoadapther/hisdrivingstyletotheroadconditions:
–Themulti-functionalinformationlightontheinstrumentpanelflashes.
–Hydraulicnoisescanbeheard.
–Thevehicledeceleratesandsteering-wheelforcesarealteredasthePSMcontrolsthebrakes.
–Reducedenginepower.
–Thebrakepedalpulsatesanditspositionischangedduringbraking.Inordertoachievefullvehicledeceleration,footpressuremustbeincreasedafterbeginningofthebrakepedalpulsing.
ExamplesofPSMcontroloperations
–Ifthefrontwheelsofthevehicledriftonabend,therearwheelontheinsideofthebendisbrakedandtheenginepowerisreducedifnecessary.
