Turntheengineoffbeforeyouattemptanychecksorrepairsonthevehicle.
Besurethetiresareinflatedcorrectly.Checktiresfordamageandtirewear.
Seethatwheelboltsareproperlytightenedandnotlooseormissing.
Checkengineoillevel,addifnecessary.Makeitahabittohaveengineoilcheckedwitheveryrefueling.
Checkallfluidlevelssuchaswindshieldwasherandbrakefluidlevels.
Besurethevehiclebatteryiswellchargedandcrankstheengineproperly.
Checkalldoorsandlidsforproperoperationandlatchthemproperly.
Check,andifnecessaryreplacewornorcrackedwiperblades.
Seethatallwindowsareclearandunobstruct-ed.
Checkairintakeslotsandareabetweenluggagecompartmentlidandwindshield.Ensurethattheseareasarefreeofsnowandice,sotheheaterandthewindshieldwipersworkproperly.
Ifachildwillberidinginthevehicle,checkchildseat/childseatrestraintsystemtoensurethatrestraintsareproperlyadjusted.
Checkallexteriorandinteriorlightsforoperationandthatthelensesareclean.
Checktheheadlightsforproperaim,andifnecessary,havethemadjusted.
Checkunderthevehicleforleaks.
Besureallluggageisstowedsecurely.
Emergencyequipment
Itisgoodpracticetocarryemergencyequipmentinyourvehicle.Someoftheitemsyoushouldhaveare:windowscraper,snowbrush,containerorbagofsandorsalt,emergencylight,smallshovel,first-aidkit,etc.

Neverdriveafteryouhaveconsumedalcoholordrugs.
Alwayshaveyoursafetybeltfastened.
Alwaysdrivedefensively.Expecttheunexpect-ed.
Usesignalstoindicateturnsandlanechanges.
Turnonheadlightsatduskorwhenthedrivingconditionswarrantit.
Alwayskeepasafedistancefromthevehicleinfrontofyou,dependingontraffic,roadandweatherconditions.
Reducespeedatnightandduringinclementweather.Drivinginwetweatherrequirescautionandreducedspeeds,particularlyonroadswithstandingwater,asthehandlingcharacteristicsofthevehiclemaybeimpairedduetohydroplaningofthetires.
Alwaysobservespeedlimitsandobeyroadsignsandtrafficlaws.
Whentired,getwellofftheroad,stopandtakearest.Turntheengineoff.Donotsitinthevehiclewithengineidling.
Pleaseobservethechapter”ENGINEEXHAUST”onpage9.
Whenparked,alwayssettheparkingbrake.MovetheTiptronicselectorleverto”P“orthegearshiftlevertoreverseorfirstgear.Onhillsalsoturnthefrontwheelstowardthecurb.
Whenemergencyrepairsbecomenecessary,movethevehiclewellofftheroad.Turnontheemergencyflasheranduseotherwarningdevicestoalertothermotorists.Donotparkoroperatethevehicleinareaswherethehotexhaustsystemmaycomeincontactwithdrygrass,brush,spilledfuelorotherflammablematerial.
Makeitahabittohavetheengineoilcheckedaftereveryrefueling.

Theremote-controlstandbyfunction
switchesoffafter7days
Ifthevehicleisnotstartedorunlockedwiththeremotecontrolwithin7days,theremotecontrolstandbyfunctionisswitchedoff(topreventdischargingofthevehiclebattery).
1.Inthiscase,unlockthedriver’sdoorwiththekeyatthedoorlock.Leavethedoorclosedinordertopreventthealarmsystemfrombeingtriggered.
2.Pressbutton1ontheremotecontrol.
Theremotecontrolisnowactivatedagainandthealarmsystemisswitchedoff.
Note
Donotinserttheignitionkeyintotheignitionlockifthevehiclebatteryisdischarged.Theignitionkeycannolongerberemoved.
Thekeycannotberemoveduntilthevehicleelectricalsystemissuppliedwithpoweragain.

Malfunctionoftheremotecontrol
Theremotecontrolmaynotfunctioncorrectlyduetolocalradiowaveinterference.Thevehiclewillthennotlockproperly.Thiscanbeidentifiedbythemissinglockingsoundandthemissingcheck-backsignaloftheemergencyflasher.
Ifthisshouldoccur:
Lockthevehiclewiththekeyinthedoor.
Emergencyoperation-opening
Unlockthedriver’sdoorwiththekeyatthedoorlock.Opendoorwithin20secondsandinserttheignitionkeyintotheignitionlockwithin10secondstopreventthealarmsystemfrombeingtriggered.
Noteonoperation
Ifthedoorisnotopenedwithinapprox.20sec-onds,automaticrelockingtakesplace.Thealarmsystemwillbetriggeredbythenextunlockingofthedoor:
Inserttheignitionkeyintotheignitionlocktoswitchoffthealarmsystem.
Emergencyoperation-closing
Lockthedriver’sdoorwiththekeyatthedoorlock.Ifthereisadefectinthecentrallockingsystem,allfunctioningelementsofthecentrallockingsystemwillbelocked.Thealarmsystemisswitchedon.Thepassengercompartmentmonitoringsystemisswitchedoff.
ThefaultshouldberemediedimmediatelyatanauthorizedPorschedealer.
Indicationbyemergencyasherand
alarmhorn
Iftheremotecontrolisusedforunlockingorlocking,aresponseisprovidedbytheemergencyflasher:
–Unlocking-singleflash.
–Locking-doubleflash.
–Lockingtwice-continuousilluminationforapprox.2seconds.
Faultindication
Adoublehornsignalduringlockingindicatesadefectinthecentrallockingoralarmsystem.HavethedefectremediedatanauthorizedPorschedealer.
Overloadprotection
Ifthecentrallockingsystemisoperatedmorethantentimeswithinaminute,furtheroperationisblockedfor30seconds.

Ifoneofthesealarmcontactsisinterrupted,thealarmhornsoundsforapproximately3minutes.Additionally,theemergencyflasherflashesandthepassengercompartmentlightlightesforapproximatelyfiveminutes.Whenthealarmistriggered,thelight-emittingdiodechangesovertodoubleflashes.
Inordernottolimittheactionrangeofthepassen-gercompartmentmonitoringsystem:
Donotfoldthefrontseatbackrestsforward.
Deactivatingthepassengercompartment
monitoringsystemforonelockingprocess
Ifapersonoranimalremainsinthecarwhileitislocked,thepassengercompartmentmonitoringsystemmustbeswitchedoff.
Quicklylockcartwice.Thedoorsarelockedbutcanbeopenedfromtheinside:
1.Pullinnerdoorhandleoncetounlockdoorlock.
2.Pullinnerdoorhandleagaintoopendoor.
Note
Informanypersonremaininginthecarthatthealarmsystemwillbetriggeredifthedoorisopened.
Faultindication
Adoublehornsignalduringlockingindicatesadefectinthecentrallockingoralarmsystem.
HavethedefectremediedatanauthorizedPorschedealer.

ABSBrakeSystem
(AntilockBrakeSystem)
TheABSsystemrepresentsamajorcontributiontotheenhancementofactivesafetyinyourvehicle.Thissystempreventsthewheelsfromlockinginapanicstoponalmostallroadsurfaces.
WiththeABSsysteminyourvehicle,the
followingareasareenhanced:
Steering,vehicleremainssteerableunderallbrakingforceswhenABSisengaged.
Gooddirectionalcontrol,noswervingcausedbylockingofwheelsunderbrakingconditions.
Shorterstoppingdistance,stoppingdistancesareusuallyreducedbecausecontrolledbrakingismaximized.
Preventionofwheellockup,nobrake-inducedslidingandthusnolocalizedtirewearfromemergencybraking.
ThecrucialadvantageoftheABSsystemoveraconventionalbrakesystemisintheareaofmaintainingdirectionalcontrolandmaneuverabilityofthecarinemergencysituations.

Theincreasedcontrolthatisprovidedshouldnotinduceyoutotakegreaterriskswithyoursafety.Thelimitsdictatedbythelawsofphysicscannotbeovercome,evenwithABS.Theriskofaccidentsduetoinappropriatespeedcannotbereduced,evenbytheABS.Thedriverbearstheresponsibilityforalldrivingmaneuvers.
Adaptyourdrivingstyletotheprevailingroadandweatherconditions.
Obeyalltrafficlaws.

OthervehiclesnotequippedwiththeABSsystemmaynotbeabletomaintaincontrol,especiallyonwetorpoorroadsurfacesandthusmaybemorelikelytoimpactyoufrombehind.
Tominimizethatrisk,useyourABSsystemtoincreaseyourabilitytomaneuvertoavoiddangeroussituationsandnotmerelytotrytostopintheshortestdistancepossible.
OperationoftheABSsystem
Awheelspeedsensorismountedtoeachofthefourwheels.Ifwheellock-upofeitherofthefrontwheelsortherearwheelsissensedduringbraking,thebrakepressureisadjustedautomaticallyuntilthewheelnolongerslips.
Ifbrakingforcesapproachthewheellock-uppointforallwheels(panicbraking)theABSsystemwillintervenetoprovidearapidrythmicbraking.TheproperoperationofABSisperceivedbythedriverasapulsatingbrakepedalinconjunctionwithaudiblenoiseandperhapssomevibration.
Ifyouexperiencethesesensationswhiledrivingoraroadsurfacewithquestionabletraction,reducevehiclespeedappropriatefortheprevailingroadconditions.
Iffullbrakingshouldbenecessary,pressthebrakepedalallthewaydownthroughouttheentirebrakingprocedure,regardlessofthepulsatingpedal.Donoteaseuponpressureappliedtothepedal.
ThefunctionalreadinessofallthemainelectricalcomponentsoftheABSischeckedbyanelectronicmonitoringsystembothbeforeandwhileyoudrive.
