1.Allocatetherequiredkeysasforthesystemswithfixedcode(steps1to3).
2.Tosynchronisethesystem:Pressthepro-grammingbuttononthereceiverforthegaragedooractuator.Afterwards,youusu-allyhaveapprox.30secondstoinitiatestep3.
3.PresstheallocatedHomeLinkbuttontwice.(Withsomedevices,thebuttontobeallocatedmustbepressedathirdtimeinordertocompletethesettingprocess.)
4.Repeattheprogrammingstepstoallocateotherbuttons.

PleasefollowtheseparateinstructionsforfittingtheRoofTransportSystem.
OnlyuseRoofTransportSystemsfromthePorscheTequipmentproductrangeorRoofTransportSystemswhichhavebeentestedandapprovedforyourcarbyPorsche.Fittingnormalcommerciallyavailableluggageracksisnotpossible.
ThePorscheRoofTransportSystemallowsyoutocarryvarioussportsandhobbyequipment.YourPorschepartnerwillbepleasedtotellyouaboutthevariousdifferentusesoftheRoofTransportSystem.
Caution!
Riskofdamagetothepaintontherearlid.Onlyopentherearlidifthiscannottouchtheload.
CompletelyremovetheRoofTransportSystembeforeusinganautomaticcarwash-riskofdamagetothevehicle!

Fixandsecureeveryitemtothebasiccarrierwitharopeorlashingstrap(donotuseelasticrubbertensioners).
Beforeeverytrip,andatregularintervalsduringlongtrips,checkthatRoofTransportSystemandloadaresecure.Re-tightenifnecessaryandsecureadditionallybylocking.
WhentheRoofTransportSystemisloaded,themaximumspeeddependsonthenature,sizeandweightoftheloadbeingcarried.Butneverdrivefasterthan90mph(140km/h).
Withthebasiccarrierfittedandnoload,donotexceedamaximumspeedof110mph(180km/h).
Driving,brakingandsteeringbehaviorchangeduetothehighercenterofgravityandthegreaterwind-resistantarea.Youshouldadaptyourdrivingstyleappropriately.
SincefuelconsumptionandnoiseareincreasedwiththeRoofTransportSystemfitted,itshouldnotremainonthevehicleifnotinuse.

Iftheredzoneisreachedduringacceleration,fuelfeedisinterrupted.

FunctionofTiptronicS
ThePorscheTiptronicisafive-speedtransmissionwithan“automatic”anda“manual”selectionmode.
Inautomaticselectionmode(selectorleverpositionD),gearchangingisautomatic.Youcanchangetemporarilyfromautomatictomanualmodeusingtherockerswitchesonthesteeringwheel.
Inmanualselectionmode(selectorleverpositionM),youchangegearusingtherockerswitchesonthesteeringwheel.
YoucanchangebetweenselectorleverpositionDandMasyouwishwhiledriving.
Note
Takecarenottooperatetherockerswitchesonthesteeringwheelinadvertentlyineitherautomaticormanualmode,therebytriggeringundesiredgearchanges.
Keylockposition
TheignitionkeycanbewithdrawnonlyinselectorleverpositionP.
Transmissionselectorlever
Changingtheselectorleverposition
Theselectorleverislockedwiththeignitionkeywithdrawn.
TheselectorlevercanbemovedfrompositionPorNonlywith:
–theignitionswitchedon,
–thebrakepedalpressedand
–thereleasebuttonpressed.
Releasebutton
Thereleasebutton(arrow)intheselectorleverpreventsunintentionalgearchanges.
ThereleasebuttonmustbepressedwhenshiftingtopositionRorP.
Starting
TheenginecanbestartedonlyifthebrakepedalisdepressedandtheselectorleverisinpositionPorN.
Movingoff
Onlyselectthedesiredpositionformovingoff(D,MorR)whentheengineisidlingandthebrakepedalisdepressed.
Sincethevehiclecreepswheningear,donotreleasethebrakeuntilyouwanttomoveoff.
Afterselectingagear,donotaccelerateuntilyoucanfeelthatthegearisengaged.

Engagetheselectorlevercorrectly.

D-Automaticselectionmode
Modeofoperation
SelectpositionDfor“normal”driving.Thegearsareshiftedautomaticallyaccordingtotheacceleratorpositionandspeed.
Dependingonthewaythevehicleisdrivenandontheresistance(e.g.uphill),thegear-changingpointsareshiftedtowardshigherorlowerengine-speedranges.Theacceleratorposition,drivingspeed,enginespeed,longitudinalandlateralaccelerationandtheroadprofileallhaveaninfluenceonthegear-changingcharacteristic.
Unwantedupwardshifts,e.g.beforebends,arepreventedbyswiftlyreleasingtheacceleratorpedal.
Dependingonlateralacceleration,upwardshiftsonbendsarenotmadeuntiltheengine-speedlimitisreached.
Underbraking,anddependingontheamountofdeceleration,theTiptronicshiftsdownearlier.Forsubsequentcornering,therightgearisengagedwhenpressureisappliedtothebrakesbeforethebend.Thebendistakenintherightgear,andwhenyouaccelerateoutofthebendyoudonothavetoshiftdown.
Sportmodeswitchedon
Pleaseobservethechapter”SPORTMODE”onpage72.
IftheSportmodeprogrammeisswitchedon,Tiptronicswitchestoasportygear-changingmapandshortenstheshiftingperiods.
InitialDrive-off
In2ndgear,thevehicledrivesoffwiththethrottleonlyslightlyopen.Driveoffin1stgearwiththethrottleopenwiderorwhentheengineiscold.
Shiftinggearonthesteeringwheel
Withthetoggleswitchesonthesteeringwheel,youcanchangetemporarilyfromautomaticselectionmodeDtomanualmodeM.
Advantages:
–Shiftingdownbeforebendsandonenteringbuilt-upareas.
–Shiftingdownondownwardslopes(enginebraking).
–Shiftingdownforbriefspurtsofacceleration.
–Selecting1stgearformovingoff.
Themanualselectionmoderemainsengaged:
–forcornering(dependingonthelateralacceleration)andoverrunning,
–whenthevehicleisstationary(e.g.atajunction).
Thesystemleavesmanualselectionmode:
–automaticallyafterapprox.8seconds(unlesscorneringoroverrunning),

Temporarychange-down
Conditions:Speedishigherthanapprox.33mph(54km/h).
Depressacceleratorquickly.TheTiptronicchangestemporarilytothesportiestgear-changingmap,i.e.tothehighestpossiblegear-changingpoints.Correspondingly,thetransmissionshiftsdownimmediatelybyoneortwogears.
Endingthefunction:
Releasetheacceleratormarkedly.
Kickdown
ThekickdownfunctionisactiveinselectorleverpositionD,evenifyoutemporarilychangetomanualmodeMusingthetoggleswitchesonthesteeringwheel.
Foroptimumacceleration,e.g.whenovertak-ing,depresstheacceleratorpedalbeyondthefull-throttlepoint(kickdown).
Thetransmissionshiftsdowndependingonthespeedoftravelandenginespeed.Upwardshiftsoccuratthehighestpossibleenginespeeds.Thesegear-changingspeedsremainactiveuntiltheacceleratorisreleasedtoapprox.80%ofthewideopenthrottleposition.
M-ManualSelectionMode
Modeofoperation
ThecurrentlyselectedgearisretainedifyouchangefromDtoM.
IfyoushiftfromMtoD,thegear-changingmapsuitableforyourcurrentdrivingstyleisselectedandtheappropriategearisselected.
Warning!
Thekickdownfunctionisnotactiveinmanualselectionmode“M”.
Thereforeshiftdownmanuallywhenaccelerat-ing(e.g.toovertake).
Twotoggleswitchesintheuppersteering-wheelspokesletyoucomfortablyandreliablyselectthefiveforwardgears.
Shiftingup
Pressupperpart(+)ofatoggleswitch.
Shiftingdown
Presslowerpart(-)ofatoggleswitch.
Dependingondrivingspeedandenginespeed,youcanshiftupordownatanytime.Gearchangeswhichwouldexceedtheupperorlowerengine-speedlimitarenotexecutedbythecontroller.
Youcanshiftdowntwogearsatoncebyquicklypressingthetoggleswitchestwice.
Iftheengine-speedlimitisreached,anautomaticupwardshiftisperformedor,justbeforeidlingspeedisreached,adownwardshiftisperformed.
Selectanappropriatelylowgearonupwardanddownwardslopes.Thiswillensureoptimumuseofenginepowerandenginebraking.
