1.DEF: Sensor internal electrical fault
2.DEF: Absence of sensor signal
3.DEF: Values outside limits
NOTESConditions for applying the fault finding procedure to stored faults:
The fault is declared present after having started the engine and turned the steering
wheel from lock to lock.
Notes:
This fault causes an absence of steering wheel return (no warning light or message).
–The computer records an occurrence context (computer operating values frozen
when fault occurs). To view this information, click on the fault description (camera
symbol). Within these values, parameter PR143 Internal fault code gives the fault
finding procedure to apply.
Procedure to apply for internal fault codes 195 and 196 of PR143.
Position the vehicle wheels in the straight line driving position (steering centre point).
Refer to parameters PR121 Steering wheel angle and PR007 Steering wheel angle offset compensation.
Both parameters must be between - 10˚ < X < 10˚.
Turn the steering wheel to full right lock then to full left lock, and check that the parameter varies within the
tolerances given in the "Conformity check".
Refer to status ET020 Steering wheel angle sensor programming, which must be STATUS 4.
If parameters PR121, PR007 and status ET020 are not correct:
Place the vehicle on a front axle adjusting bench.
Position the vehicle wheels in the straight line driving position (steering centre point).
Program the steering wheel angle via command VP004 Steering wheel angle sensor programming (see
Configuration and programming, section A).
Remove the fault, start the engine and check that the EPAS functions correctly by turning the steering wheel from
lock to lock (parking manoeuvres).
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRClear the stored faults.
Check that the EPAS is working.
Deal with any other faults.

Procedure to apply for internal fault codes 192, 193 and 194 of PR143.
Check the fault occurrence context for internal fault codes 193 and 194. If PR108 Computer supply voltage
is less than 10 V, the fault is due to a battery undervoltage.
Check the vehicle battery voltage.
Check the tightness and the condition of the battery terminals.
Check the charge circuit if necessary.
Check the condition of the 3 white EPAS connectors and check that they are locked correctly.
In the event of a fault, check the insulation, continuity and the absence of interference resistance on the
following connection:
2-track connector track 1 + 12 V before ignition feed
Repair if necessary.
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRClear the stored faults.
Check that the EPAS is working.
Deal with any other faults.

lighting up.
–The computer records an occurrence context (computer operating values frozen
when fault occurs). To view this information, click on the fault description (camera
symbol).
Within these values, parameter PR143 Internal fault code gives the fault finding
procedure to apply.
If, in the fault occurrence context (computer operating values frozen when fault
occurs) PR108 Computer supply voltage is less than 10 V, check the battery
voltage, the tightness and the condition of the battery terminals and check the
charging circuit.
Procedure to apply for internal fault codes 1 and 69 of PR143.
Contact Techline.
Procedure to apply for internal fault codes 48, 66, 64, 65 and 67 of PR143.

DEF: Invalid signal
NOTESConditions for applying the fault finding procedure to stored faults:
The fault is declared present after a road test.
Notes:
This fault causes an unsuitable level of assistance and the SERVICE indicator light

PROGRAMMING THE STEERING WHEEL ANGLE SENSOR
NOTESSpecial note:
–This status is declared correct when it is STATUS 4 (normal mode); in any other
case, apply this fault finding procedure.
–The SERVICE indicator light will come on if the steering wheel angle calibration has
not been carried out.
VARIOUS POSSIBLE STATUS VALUES (with the meaning):
STATUS 1:
–Straight ahead wheel position not programmed.
–Invalid angle value.
PROGRAMMING NOT COMPLETE.STATUS 3:
–Straight ahead wheel position not programmed.
–Invalid angle value.
–Steering wheel out of range ± 120˚ when after ignition
is switched on.
PROGRAMMING COMPLETE, ANGLE TO BE
CONFIRMED.
STATUS 2:
–Straight ahead wheel position not programmed.
–Invalid angle value.
PROGRAMMING NOT COMPLETE.STATUS 4:
–Straight ahead wheel position not programmed.
–Valid angle value.
PROGRAMMING COMPLETE.
STATUS 1 or STATUS 2
If the status is STATUS 1 or STATUS 2, program the steering wheel angle (see Configuration and
programming).
STATUS 3
If the status is STATUS 3, turn the steering wheel from right lock to left lock then slowly return it to slightly beyond
the centre point (PR135 "Column rotation speed" less than 200˚/s). The status should become STATUS 4.
Note:
A present or stored fault can impede STATUS 4 (carry out the necessary operations by referring to the Fault
Finding Manual).
AFTER REPAIRPerform a test using the diagnostic tool.

LEVEL OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE
NOTESNone.
In normal operation, this parameter shows the steering assistance value which depends on the level of motor
protection.
When the user holds the steering at full lock for more than 0.5 seconds, assistance drops to 52%.
This parameter can fall below 100% when the EPAS system is heated during repeated manoeuvres; this stores
fault DF001 Motor thermal protection if the heating lasts longer than 1 minute.
Note:
The level of assistance can be degraded according to system faults (see Faults summary table).
AFTER REPAIRPerform a test using the diagnostic tool.

ALP4The steering wheel does not return by itself to the centre at low
speed: steering wheel return to centre point inactive
NOTESOnly consult this customer complaint after a complete check with the diagnostic tool.
Check that the casing under the steering wheel does not rub on the steering column or steering wheel.
Check the pressure and condition of the tyres, the condition of the joints and the front axle geometry.
Check the vehicle battery voltage.
Check the charge circuit if necessary.
Refer to status ET020 Steering wheel angle sensor programming, which must be STATUS 4.
Position the vehicle wheels in the straight line driving position (steering centre point).
Refer to parameters PR121 Steering wheel angle which must be in the range - 10 d˚ < X < 10 d˚ and PR007
Steering wheel angle offset compensation which must be in the range - 10 d˚ < X < 10 d˚.
Turn the steering wheel to full right lock then to full left lock, and check that the parameter varies within the
tolerances given in the "Conformity check".
If parameters PR121, PR007 and status ET020 listed above are not in conformity:
Place the vehicle on a front axle adjusting bench.
Position the vehicle wheels in the straight line driving position (steering centre point).
Program the steering wheel angle using command VP004 Steering wheel angle sensor programming (see
Configuration and programming).
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRPerform a test using the diagnostic tool.

ALP6 Too little assistance
NOTESNote :
With the steering wheel on full lock, assistance is reduced after 0.5 seconds.
Check the pressure and condition of the tyres, the condition of the joints and the front axle geometry.
Check the vehicle battery voltage.
Check the charge circuit if necessary.
Do not operate the EPAS for at least 1 hour.
Check that parameters PR008 Computer temperature, PR009 Steering motor temperature and PR014
Assistance level available are correct (see Conformity check).
Make sure that no component located in the vicinity of the electric power-assisted steering system causes an
abnormal temperature rise in the system.
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
Note:
After the steering system has been heated a number of times, the EPAS limits assistance itself to protect its
electrical components.
It is normal for the system to do this.
AFTER REPAIRPerform a test using the diagnostic tool.
