NOTESConditions for applying fault finding procedures to stored faults:
The fault appears after:
–in the event of short circuit+ or short circuit-:
Lever in "Drive" position, gear engaged = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 OR Gear engaged = 1 and
engine braking.
–in the event of open circuit:
Lever in "Manual" position, gear engaged = 1 and engine braking.
OR lever in "Drive" position, gear engaged = 1, 2, 3.
OR
Running command AC030 "Clutch 3 solenoid valve".
System effects:
–in the event of short circuit+:
–If the fault occurs in 1st, 2nd or 3rd in "Drive" position, no shifting to 4th, 5th or 6th in
"Drive" position.
–If the fault occurs in 4th, 5th or 6th in "Drive" position, the transmission is in neutral
(refer to fault "neutral detection").
–in the event of open circuit or short circuit-:
–If the fault occurs in 1st in "Manual" mode or in 2nd or 3rd in "Drive" mode, the
automatic transmission is locked.
–If the fault occurs in 1st in "Drive" position, shifting from 1st gear to 4th gear.
Customer complaint:
–in the event of short circuit+:
–If the fault occurs in 1st, 2nd or 3rd in "Drive" position, no shifting to 4th, 5th or 6th in
"Drive" position.
–If the fault occurs in 4th, 5th or 6th in "Drive" position, the transmission is in neutral
(refer to fault "neutral detection").
Fault warning light comes on.
–in the event of open circuit:
–If the fault occurs in 1st in "Manual" mode or in 2nd or 3rd in "Drive" mode, the
automatic transmission is locked.
–If the fault occurs in 1st in "Drive" position, shifting from 1st gear to 4th gear.
Fault warning light comes on.
–in the event of short circuit-:
Fixed 5th gear engaged.
Restarting is in 5th gear.
Fault warning light comes on.

AFTER REPAIRDeal with any other faults. Clear the fault memory.

1.DEF: No multiplex frameworks or invalid values (signal producing computer
problem or multiplex line connection fault).
NOTESSystem effects:
The lock-up is inhibited (still open).
Customer complaint:
If the lever is in position "P", the "Apply brake" icon is not displayed on the instrument
panel.
The function reducing drag when stationary is no longer operational.
Use the Wiring Diagrams Technical Note, SCENIC II ph2.
Run a multiplex network test (see 88B, Multiplex).
Run a check on the ABS anti-lock braking system (see 38C, ABS Bosch 8.0).
Check the continuity and insulation against earth of the following connections:
●Connection code 3MS,
●Connection code 3MT,
between components 119 and 120.
If the connection is faulty and there is a repair procedure (see Technical Note 6015A, Electrical wiring repair,
Wiring: Precautions for repair), repair the wiring, otherwise replace it.
If the fault is still present, contact the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRDeal with any other faults. Clear the fault memory.
Switch off the ignition, wait 1 minute and carry out a road test followed by another
check with the diagnostic tool.

Disconnect the connector from component 119, measure the resistance of clutch 1 solenoid valve
(on the connector of component 119) between the following connections:
●Connection code 5DL.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
If the resistance is not correct, check interpretation of fault DF273 "Clutch solenoid valve 1 circuit".
Disconnect the connector from component 119, measure the resistance of clutch 2 solenoid valve
(on the connector of component 119) between the following connections:
●Connection code 5DM.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
If the resistance is not correct, check interpretation of fault DF274 "Clutch solenoid valve 2 circuit".
Disconnect the connector from component 119, measure the resistance of clutch 3 solenoid valve
(on the connector of component 119) between the following connections:
●Connection code 5Q.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
If the resistance is not correct, check interpretation of fault DF275 "Clutch solenoid valve 3 circuit".
Disconnect the connector from component 119, measure the resistance of the lock-up/brake solenoid valve
(on the connector of component 119) between the following connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
If the resistance is not correct, check interpretation of fault DF306 "Lock-up/brake solenoid valve 1 circuit".

NOTESConditions for applying fault finding procedures to stored faults:
The fault appears after:
–in the event of short circuit+ or short circuit-:
Lever in "Drive" position, gear engaged = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 OR Gear engaged = 1 and
engine braking.
–in the event of open circuit:
Lever in position D, gear engaged = 1, 2, 6 and setpoint current > 937 mA
OR
Running command AC032 Brake 2 solenoid valve.
System effects:
–in the event of short circuit+:
If the fault occurs in 1st in "Drive", system shifts to 2nd in "Drive".
If the fault occurs in 1st in "Drive" with engine braking, 3rd, 4th, 5th in "Drive", automatic
transmission locked. Automatic transmission locking detection only possible in 4th in
"Drive" mode only (see Interpretation of faults, fault DF298 Gear changes).
–in the event of open circuit or short circuit-:
–If the fault appears in 2nd, downshifting to 1st without engine braking.
–If the fault occurs in 6th gear in "Drive" mode, an erratic shift to neutral is detected
(see DF256 Erratic gear jumps).
Customer complaint:
–in the event of short circuit+:
If the fault occurs in 1st in "Drive" mode, system shifts to 2nd in "Drive" mode.
If the fault occurs in 1st in "Drive" mode with engine braking, 3rd in "Drive" mode, 4th
in "Drive" mode or 5th in "Drive" mode, automatic transmission locked.
Jolting during gear changes.
Fault warning light comes on.
–in the event of open circuit:
–If the fault appears in 2nd, downshifting to 1st without engine braking.
–If the fault occurs in 6th in "Drive" mode, an erratic shift to neutral is detected.
Fault warning light comes on.
–in the event of short circuit-:
If the fault occurs while driving, the transmission engages fixed 5th gear.

System effects:
–in the event of short circuit+:
lock-up remains active.
In D2, risk of engine stalling.
–in the event of open circuit or short circuit-:
lock-up remains inactive.
Customer complaint:
–in the event of short circuit+:
If the fault occurs while driving, the transmission engages fixed 5th gear.
Restarting in fixed 3rd gear (no more gear changes).
Risk of engine stalling.
Jolting during gear changes.
Fault warning light comes on.
–in the event of open circuit or short circuit-:
If the fault occurs while driving, the transmission engages fixed 5th gear.

Look for any damage to the wiring harness, and check the condition and connection of the automatic
transmission computer and the hydraulic distributor.
If the connection is faulty and there is a repair procedure (see Technical Note 6015A, Electrical wiring repair,
Wiring: Precautions for repair), repair the wiring, otherwise replace it.
Check for + after ignition feed on connection 5LW of component 754.
Is the + after ignition feed still present?
If YES, move on to step 1.
If NO, move on to step 8.

Step 1:
Disconnect the connector from component 119, measure the resistance of the lock-up/brake 1 solenoid valve
(on the connector of component 119) between the following connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
Is the resistance correct?
If YES, contact the Techline.
If NO, move on to step 2.
Step 2:
Disconnect connector R22 and check continuity and insulation of the following connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
Between components 119 and R22.
If the connection or connections are faulty and there is a repair procedure (see Technical Note 6015A, Electrical
wiring repair, Wiring: Precautions for repair), repair the wiring, otherwise replace it.
Are the continuity and insulation correct?
If YES, move on to step 3.
If NO, replace the external wiring harness on the automatic transmission.
Stage 3:
Measure the resistance of lock-up/brake 1 solenoid valve (on connector R22) between the following
connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
Is the resistance correct?
If YES, and if the fault is still there, contact the Techline.
If NO, move on to step 4.
AFTER REPAIRDeal with any other faults. Clear the fault memory.
Switch off the ignition, wait 1 minute and carry out a road test followed by another
check with the diagnostic tool.

Stage 4:
Drain the automatic transmission (see, MR 370, Mechanical, 23A Automatic transmission, Oil change) and
remove the transmission housing (see, MR 370, Mechanical, 23A Automatic transmission, Hydraulic
distributor).
Disconnect the connector from component 754, measure the resistance of lock-up/brake 1 solenoid valve
(on the connector of the internal wiring harness of the transmission) between the following connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
Is the resistance correct?
If YES, move on to step 5.
If NO, move on to step 6.
Stage 5:
Measure the continuity and insulation of the following connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
Between components R22 and the internal connector in the transmission.
Are the continuity and insulation correct?
If YES, contact the Techline.
If NO, replace the intermediate wiring harness between connector R22 and the internal connector in the
transmission.
Stage 6:
Disconnect the connector from lock-up/brake 1 solenoid valve, measure the resistance of lock-up/brake 1
solenoid valve between the following connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
The resistance must be 5.3 ΩΩ Ω Ω
± 0.5 ΩΩ Ω Ω
at 20 ˚C.
Is the resistance correct?
If YES, move on to step 7.
If NO, replace the hydraulic distributor.

Switch off the ignition, wait 1 minute and carry out a road test followed by another
check with the diagnostic tool.

Step 7:
Measure the continuity and insulation of the following connections:
●Connection code 5BF.
●Connection code 5LW.
Between lock-up/brake 1 solenoid valve and the internal connector on the transmission.
Are the continuity and insulation correct?
If YES, contact the Techline.
If NO, replace the internal wiring harness on the automatic transmission.
Step 8:
Check the continuity and insulation of the following connection:
●Connection code 5LW between components 119 and 754.
If the connection is faulty and there is a repair procedure (see Technical Note 6015A, Electrical wiring repair,
Wiring: Precautions for repair), repair the wiring, otherwise replace it.
If + after ignition feed is not present after checking the feeds and earths on the transmission computer, contact
the Techline.
AFTER REPAIRDeal with any other faults. Clear the fault memory.

NOTESOrder of priority in the event of more than one fault:
If there is a combination of the following faults:
–DF300 "Brake 2 solenoid valve circuit"
–DF306 "Lock-up/brake 1 solenoid valve circuit",
–DF307 "Engine brake",
deal first with faults DF300 "Brake 2 solenoid valve circuit" and DF306 "Lock-up/
brake 1 solenoid valve circuit".
Conditions for applying fault finding procedures to stored faults:
The fault appears after:
Lever in "Drive" position.
The solenoid valve control status corresponds to a fault
OR the pressure switch status corresponds to a fault.
System effects:
Significant engine braking.
lock-up inhibited (i.e. open) to avoid stalling.
Customer complaint:
Major engine braking when the fault appears, then a complete absence of engine
braking.
Fault warning light comes on.
Look for any damage to the wiring harness, and check the condition and connection of the automatic
transmission computer and the hydraulic distributor.
If the connection is faulty and there is a repair procedure (see Technical Note 6015A, Electrical wiring repair,
Wiring: Precautions for repair), repair the wiring, otherwise replace it.
Check for + after ignition feed on connection 5LW of component 754.
Is the + after ignition feed still present?
If YES, move on to step 1.
If NO, move on to step 8.
