Using Smart Engine Start safely and correctly
The following signs are used in this manual to indicate situations which\
could lead
to injury of the driver or other people, and instructions on how to avoi\
d them. These
instructions are important for safety. Please make sure to read and observe the
instructions given.
WarningFailure to observe instructions could lead to serious injury
or death.
CautionFailure to observe instructions could lead to accidents,
injury or vehicle damage.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Warning
• Smart Engine Start is for vehicles with automatic transmission equipped \
with
Keyless Access and Start system only. Do not use it for manual transmission
vehicles.
• This product is applicable only to vehicles with 12V DC, negative ground\
ing
specifications. Do not use in vehicles with 24V specifications. Otherwis\
e,
damage to the unit or a fire may result.
• Do not allow children to play with remote keyless entry or Smart Engine \
Start
systems. The doors may be locked or unlocked, and the engine may be
started unintentionally.
• If an unusual event occurs, such as liquids spilling onto the product, o\
r the product
emitting smoke or strange odors, stop using it immediately and consult t\
he dealer
from whom you purchased it. Continued use of the product before correcti\
ve
actions are taken may result in an accident, injury, or fire.
• Never pull the plastic bag in which this product is packaged over your h\
ead.
Otherwise, a serious injury or death from suffocation may occur.
• The vehicle must be within view of anyone using Smart Engine Start. Star\
ting the
engine when the vehicle is not in view may result in an accident.
Caution
• Do not use this product for applications other than in-vehicle use. An electric shock
or injury may result.
• Do not operate Smart Engine Start if the Check Engine Light stays on and\
engine
service is required.
• Never attempt to disassemble or modify the product. An accident, fire, or electric
shock may result.
• When replacing fuses, be sure to use fuses with the same specified capac\
ity
(amperage). Otherwise, damage to the unit or vehicle, fire, or electri\
c shock
may result.
• All features may not be applicable to all vehicle models.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Caution
Do not start the engine in an enclosed area (such
as a garage or indoor parking lot) where too much
exhaust may accumulate and create a hazardous
environment with potential for CO poisoning.
Caution
Do not start the engine if a person or pet is present
in or near the vehicle. The windows and power seats
can accidentally be switched on, leading to injury.
Caution
Do not start the engine near dry foliage, paper, or
other flammable substances. The exhaust pipe and
exhaust emissions can create a fire hazard at high
temperatures.
Caution
Do not use Smart Engine Start from a distance where
the vehicle cannot be seen. Children or small animals
should not be near the vehicle.
Caution
The general operating temperature of Smart Engine
Start under ideal conditions is above -22°F (-30°C).
Due to multiple vehicle variables, this operating
temperature may fluctuate.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Caution
Always shut off the windshield wipers and radio after
parking. If left on, such components may be damaged
by Smart Engine Start in extremely cold weather.
Check that all vehicle windows are closed and all
doors locked after parking.
Caution
Do not start the engine with a car cover still on the
vehicle. The exhaust pipe and exhaust emissions are
capable of starting a fire at high temperatures.
Caution
Avoid using Smart Engine Start when the fuel level is
low. You may run out of fuel and be unable to restart
the engine.
Caution
To help reduce the risk of injury during engine service,
Smart Engine Start will not function while the hood is
open.

INTRODUCTION
Smart Engine Start allows you to start your engine from outside the vehi\
cle. It utilizes
your vehicle’s keyless entry remote, so there is no need for a special remote. In
addition, Smart Engine Start can activate the heater or air conditioner, providing you
with a comfortable cabin upon entry.
To ensure your safety, and the safety of anyone near the vehicle, Smart Engine Start
is designed to shut the engine off when it detects any attempt to enter or move the
vehicle after a Smart Engine Start.
NOTES:
• To utilize Smart Engine Start, your vehicle must have an automatic transm\
ission
equipped with a Keyless Access and Start system; it cannot be used for manual
transmission models.
• The transmission range for Smart Engine Start may be shorter than the re\
mote’s
basic keyless entry operation.
• Range can also be affected by the condition of the key and radio wave conditions
in the surrounding environment.
• While the engine is running, the transmission range for Smart Engine Sta\
rt may
be shorter.
• Please adhere to state, provincial, and local laws when using Smart Engi\
ne Start.
Failure to do so may result in legal penalties.
Examples: • The vehicle must be within view of anyone using Smart Engine Start.
• Do not unnecessarily start the engine while the vehicle is stopped.

OPERATION
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
Before using Smart Engine Start to start your vehicle, please be sure of\
the following
conditions.
The shift lever is in the “P” position.
All doors are closed (including the rear gate).
The hood is closed.
The ENGINE START STOP switch is switched
OFF (operation lamp color: OFF).

To start a vehicle with Smart Engine Start, press and release the LOCK bu\
tton twice
within two seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button for three second\
s.
Engine starts successfully
A) Press and release the LOCK button.• The hazard lights flash once.
B) Press and release the LOCK button again. • The hazard lights flash again.
FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY Step 3:
C) Press and hold the LOCK button. • The hazard lights flash 3 times [Car Finder]
• The horn sounds once [Car Finder]
• After three seconds, the horn sounds once.
D) Release the LOCK button.
• The parking lights and hazard lights flash once,
and the horn sounds once.
• The parking lights remain lit until the engine
stops.

NOTES: • If the engine is left running after being started, it automatically stop\
s after a
set time. This setting can be changed by your dealer. Refer to “AUTOMATIC
ENGINE SHUTDOWN” on page 5.
The engine can be restarted by repeating Step 1 to Step 3. However, the engine
cannot be restarted if the total run-time exceeds 20 minutes.
Example: When the engine is stopped after 15 minutes

NOTE: The total run-time can be reset by opening and closing one of the doors \
(including the rear gate).
• The power windows cannot be operated while the engine is running.
• The horn may not be audible depending on the conditions in the area arou\
nd
the vehicle.
• If the area around the vehicle is bright (daylight, snowy conditions, etc.), it may
not be possible to confirm the status of the hazard lights, marker light\
s and tail
lights.
