⢠Pedestrians who are bending for- ward or squatting
⢠Pedestrians who are lying down
⢠Pedestrians who are running
⢠Pedestrians who suddenly enter the detection area
⢠People riding a bicycle, skate- board, or other light vehicle
⢠Pedestrians wearing oversized clothing such as a rain coat, long
skirt, etc., making their silhouette
obscure
⢠Pedestrians whose body is par- tially hidden by an object, such as
a cart or umbrella
⢠Pedestrians which are obscured by darkness, such as at night
âIn some situations, such as the
following, pedestrians may not be
detected by the rear camera
detection function, preventing the
function from operating properly:
⢠When backing up in inclement weather (rain, snow, fog, etc.)
⢠When the rear camera is
obscured (dirt, snow, ice, etc., are
attached) or scratched
⢠When a very bright light, such as the sun, or the headlights of
another vehicle, shines directly
into the rear camera
⢠When backing up in a place where the surrounding brightness
changes suddenly, such as at the
entrance or exi t of a garage or
underground parking lot
⢠When backing up in a dim envi-
ronment such as during dusk or in
an underground parking lot
⢠When the camera position and
direction are deviated

⢠If the suspension has been modi- fied or tires of a size other than
specified are installed.
⢠If an electronic component, such as a backlit license plate or rear
fog light, is insta lled near the rear
camera
⢠If a bumper protector, such as an
additional trim strip, is installed to
the rear bumper
â Situations in which the system
may operate unexpectedly
âEven though there are no pedes-
trians in the detection area, some
objects, such as the following,
may be detected, possibly caus-
ing the rear cam era detection
function to operate.
⢠Three dimensional objects, such as a pole, traffic cone, fence, or
parked vehicle
⢠Moving objects, such as a car or motorcycle
⢠Objects moving to ward your vehi-
cle when backing up, such as
flags or puddles (or airborne mat-
ter, such as smoke, steam, rain, or
snow)
⢠Cobblestone or gravel roads, tram rails, road repai rs, white lines,
pedestrian crossings or fallen

⢠Metal covers (gratings), such as those used for drainage ditches
⢠Objects reflected in a puddle or on a wet road surface
⢠Shadows on the road
âIn some situations, such as the
following, the rear camera detec-
tion function may operate even
though there are no pedestrians in
the detection area.
⢠When backing up toward the road- side or a bump on the road
⢠When backing up toward an
incline/decline
⢠If the rear of the vehicle is raised or lowered due to the carried load
⢠If a bumper protector, such as an additional trim strip, is installed to
the rear bumper
⢠If the orientation of the rear cam- era has been changed
⢠If a towing eyelet is installed to the
rear of the vehicle
⢠When water is flowing over the rear camera lens
⢠When the rear camera is obscured (dirt, snow, ice, etc., are
attached) or scratched
⢠If there is a flashing light in the detection area, such as the emer-
gency flashers of another vehicle
⢠When a tire chains or an emer- gency tire puncture repair kit is
used
âSituations in which the rear cam-
era detection function may be diffi-
cult to notice
⢠The buzzer may be difficult to hear if the surrounding area is noisy,
the volume of the audio system
volume is high, the air condition-
ing system is being used, etc.

The Parking Support Brake
system consists of the fol-
lowing functions that oper-
ate when driving at a low
speed or backing up, such
as when parking. When the
system determines that the
probability of a collision
with a detected object or
pedestrian is high, a warn-
ing operates to urge the
driver to take evasive
action. If the system deter-
mines that the possibility of
a collision with a detected
object or pedestrian is
extremely high, the brakes
are automatically applied to
help avoid the collision or
help reduce the impact of
the collision.

WARNING
â Cautions regarding the use of
the system
Do not overly rely on the system,
as doing so may lead to an acci-
dent.
Always drive while checking the
safety of the surroundings of the
vehicle.
Depending on the vehicle and
road conditions, weather, etc., the
system may not operate.
The detection capa bilities of sen-
sors and radars are limited.
Always drive while checking the
safety of the surroundings of the
vehicle.
âThe driver is solely responsible
for safe driving. Always drive
carefully, taking care to observe
your surroundings. The Parking
Support Brake system is
designed to provide support to
lessen the severity of collisions.
However, it may not operate in
some situations.
âThe Parking Support Brake sys-
tem is not designed to stop the
vehicle completely. Additionally,
even if the system has stopped
the vehicle, it is necessary to
depress the brake pedal imme-
diately as brake control will be
canceled after approximately 2
seconds.
âIt is extremely dangerous to
check the system operations by
intentionally driving the vehicle
into the direction of a wall, etc.
Never attempt such actions.
â When to disable the Parking
Support Brake
In the following situations, disable
the Parking Suppor t Brake as the
system may opera te even though
there is no possibility of a colli-
sion.
âWhen inspecting the vehicle
using a chassis roller, chassis
dynamo or free roller
âWhen loading the vehicle onto a
boat, truck or other transport
vessel
âIf the suspension has been
modified or tires of a size other
than specified are installed
âIf the front of the vehicle is
raised or lowered due to the
carried load
âWhen equipment that may
obstruct a sensor is installed,
such as a towing eyelet, bumper
protector (an additional trim
strip, etc.), bicycle carrier, or
snow plow
âWhen using automatic car
washing devices
âIf the vehicle cannot be driven in
a stable manner, such as when
the vehicle has been in an acci-
dent or is malfunctioning
âWhen the vehicle is driven in a
sporty manner or off-road
âWhen the tires are not properly
inflated
âWhen the tires are very worn

Driving
WARNING
âUnlike the parking brake, hill-
start assist control is not
intended to hold the vehicle sta-
tionary for an extended period
of time. Do not attempt to use
hill-start assist control to hold
the vehicle on an incline, as
doing so may lead to an acci-
dent.
â When the
TRAC/ABS/VSC/Trailer Sway
Control is activated
The slip indicator light flashes.
Always drive carefully. Reckless
driving may cause an accident.
Exercise particular care when the
indicator light flashes.
â When the TRAC/VSC/Trailer
Sway Control systems are
turned off
Be especially careful and drive at
a speed appropriate to the road
conditions. As these are the sys-
tems to help ensure vehicle stabil-
ity and driving force, do not turn
the TRAC/VSC/Trailer Sway Con-
trol systems off unless necessary.
Trailer Sway Control is part of the
VSC system and will not operate
if VSC is turned off or experiences
a malfunction.
â Replacing tires
Make sure that all tires are of the
specified size, brand, tread pat-
tern and total load capacity. In
addition, make sure that the tires
are inflated to the recommended
tire inflation pressure level.
The ABS, TRAC, VSC and Trailer
Sway Control systems will not
function correctly if different tires
are installed on the vehicle.
Contact your Toyota dealer for fur-
ther information when replacing
tires or wheels.
â Handling of tires and the sus-
pension
Using tires with any kind of prob-
lem or modifying the suspension
will affect the driving assist sys-
tems, and may cause a system to
malfunction.
â Trailer Sway Control precau-
tion
The Trailer Sway Control system
is not able to red uce trailer sway
in all situations. Depending on
many factors such as the condi-
tions of the vehicle, trailer, road
surface and driving environment,
the Trailer Sway Control system
may not be effective. Refer to
your trailer ownerâs manual for
information on how to tow your
trailer properly.
â If trailer sway occurs
Observe the following precau-
tions.
Failing to do so may cause death
or serious injury.
âFirmly grip the steering wheel.
Steer straight ahead. Do not try
to control trailer swaying by
turning the steering wheel.
âBegin releasing the accelerator
pedal immediately but very
gradually to reduce speed.
Do not increase speed. Do not
apply vehicle brakes.
If you make no extreme correction
with the steering or brakes, your
vehicle and traile r should stabi-
lize. (ï® P.229)

to reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to do so m ay result in a
loss of vehicle control and cause
death or serious injury.
âUse tires of the specified size.
âMaintain the recommended
level of air pressure.
âDo not drive in excess of 75
mph (120 km/h), regardless of
the type of snow tires being
used.
âUse snow tires on all, not just
some wheels.
â Driving with tire chains
Observe the following precautions
to reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to do so may result in the
vehicle being unable to be driven
safely, and may cause death or
serious injury.
âDo not drive in excess of the
speed limit specifi ed for the tire
chains being used, or 30 mph
(50 km/h), whichever is lower.
âAvoid driving on bumpy road
surfaces or over potholes.
âAvoid sudden acceleration,
abrupt steering, sudden brak-
ing and shifting operations that
cause sudden regenerative
braking.
âSlow down sufficiently before
entering a curve to ensure that
vehicle control is maintained.
âDo not use LTA (Lane Tracing
Assist).
NOTICE
â Repairing or replacing snow
tires

to the driving conditions:
ï¬Do not try to forcibly open a
window or move a wiper that
is frozen. Pour warm water
over the frozen area to melt
the ice. Wipe away the water
immediately to prevent it from
freezing.
ï¬ To ensure proper operation of
the climate control system
fan, remove any snow that
has accumulated on the air
inlet vents in front of the wind-
shield.
ï¬ Check for and remove any
excess ice or snow that may
have accumulated on the
exterior lights, vehicleâs roof,
chassis, around the tires or on
the brakes.
ï¬ Remove any snow or mud
from the bottom of your shoes
before getting in the vehicle.
Accelerate the vehicle slowly,
keep a safe distance between
you and the vehicle ahead, and
drive at a reduced speed suit-
able to road conditions.
ï¬ Turn automatic mode of the
parking brake off. Otherwise,
the parking brake may freeze
and not be able to be
released automatically. Also, avoid using the following
as the parking brake may
operate automatically, even if
automatic mode is off.
⢠Brake hold system
⢠Remote parking function
ï¬
Park the vehicle and shift the
shift position to P without set-
ting the parking brake. The
parking brake may freeze up,
preventing it from being
released. If the vehicle is
parked without setting the
parking brake, make sure to
block the wheels.
Failure to do so may be dan-
gerous because it may cause
the vehicle to move unexpect-
edly, possibly leading to an
accident.
When the parking brake is in
automatic mode, release the
parking brake after shifting
the shift position to P.
(ï® P.244)
ï¬ If the vehicle is parked without
setting the parking brake,
confirm that the shift position
cannot be moved out of P.
