CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)

1CHECK NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH.
1) Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to data
link connector.
2) Turn the ignition switch and Subaru Select
Monitor switch to ON.
3) Select {Engine} from the main menu.
4) Then, select {Current Data Display &
Save}.
5) Check the neutral position switch signal by
shifting the select lever to “P” or “N” range.
Is Subaru Select Monitor ON
when select lever is shifted into
“P” or “N” range? Is Subaru
Select Monitor OFF when
select lever is shifted to a
range other than the “P” or “N”
range?
Replace the ECM.
Engine Control

Go to step 2.
2CHECK TCM OUTPUT VOLTAGE.
1) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2) Measure the voltage between TCM har-
ness connector terminal and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B55) No. 19 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
Is voltage more than 10 V
when select lever is shifted to a
range other than “P” or “N”
range? Is voltage less than 1 V
when select lever is shifted into
“P” or “N” range?
Go to step 3.Check the TCM.

3CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN TCM AND
ECM.
1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2) Disconnect the harness connector from
TCM and ECM.
3) Measure the resistance between TCM har-
ness connector terminal and ECM harness
connector terminal.

Is the resistance less than 10
Ω?
Replace the ECM.

Diagnostics for A/C System Malfunction
HVAC SYSTEM (AUTO A/C) (DIAGNOSTICS)
7CHECK A/C ON SIGNAL.
1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2) Connect the A/C relay and all disconnected
connectors.
3) Start the engine and turn the AUTO switch
to ON.
4) Turn the temperature control dial at maxi-
mum cool position.
5) Measure the voltage between auto A/C
control module harness connector terminal
and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B283) No. 6 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
Is the voltage more than 10 V? Go to step 9.Go to step 8.
8CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO A/C
CONTROL MODULE AND ECM.
1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2) Disconnect the harness connector of auto
A/C control module and ECM.
3) Measure the resistance of harness
between auto A/C control module connector
and ECM connector.

(B283) No. 6 — (B136) No. 24:
Is the resistance less than 1
Ω?
Replace the auto
A/C control mod-
ule.

9CHECK MAGNET CLUTCH ON SIGNAL.
1) Stop the engine, and turn the AUTO switch
to OFF.
2) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3) Measure the voltage between ECM con-
nector terminal and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B136) No. 9 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
Is the voltage more than 10 V? Go to step 10.Check for open or
short circuit in the
harness between
A/C relay and
ECM.
10 CHECK MAGNET CLUTCH ON SIGNAL.
1) Start the engine and turn the AUTO switch
to ON.
2) Turn the temperature control dial at maxi-
mum cool position.
3) Measure the voltage between ECM con-
nector terminal and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B136) No. 9 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
Is the voltage 0 V? Go to step 11.Replace the ECM.
REMOVAL,
Engine Control
Module (ECM).>
11 CHECK POWER SUPPLY FOR MAGNET
CLUTCH.
1) Stop the engine, and turn the AUTO switch
to OFF.
2) Disconnect the harness connector of mag-
net clutch.
3) Start the engine and turn the AUTO switch
to ON.
4) Turn the temperature control dial at maxi-
mum cool position.
5) Measure the voltage between magnet
clutch harness connector terminal and chassis
ground.

(F24) No. 1 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
Is the voltage more than 10 V? Go to step 12.Check for open or
short circuit in the
harness between
A/C relay and
magnet clutch.

Go to step 4.Repair the open

4CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN BODY INTE-
GRATED UNIT AND ECM.
1) Disconnect the harness connector from
body integrated unit and ECM.
2) Measure the resistance between body inte-
grated unit harness connector terminal and
ECM harness connector terminal.

Is the resistance less than 10
Ω?
Go to step 5.Repair the open
circuit of harness

grated unit and

chassis ground.

Is the voltage 0 V? Go to step 7.Repair the har-

7CHECK HARNESS OF COMMUNICATION
LINE.
Measure the voltage between harness connec-
tor terminal and engine ground.

(B136) No. 26, No. 34 (+) — Engine
ground (–):
Is the voltage 0 V? Go to step 8.Repair the har-
ness between
body integrated
unit and ECM,
because there is
short circuit with
battery voltage line
or ignition switch
“ON” line.
8CHECK ECM BY COMMUNICATION LINE
CHECK.
1) Connect the harness connector to ECM.
2) Disconnect the harness connector from
body integrated unit.
3) Start the communication line check.
CHECK, OPERATION, Subaru Select Moni-
tor.>
Does “Communication Line not
Shorted” appear on the
screen?
Replace the body
integrated unit
Unit.> and replace
all the ignition keys
(including tran-
sponder). Execute
the registration
procedure next.

1) Lift up the vehicle and support it with rigid
racks.
2) Drive the vehicle faster than 10 km/h (6
MPH).
WARNING:Be careful not to get caught in the running
wheels.
3) Measure the voltage between combination
meter connector and chassis ground.

(i10) No. 27 (+) — Chassis ground (–):
Is the voltage less than 1 V
←→ 5 V or more?
Replace the meter
case assembly.
Go to step 2.
2CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN VDCCM AND
COMBINATION METER.
1) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
2) Disconnect the connector from VDCCM
and combination meter.
3) Measure the resistance between VDCCM
harness connector and combination meter har-
ness connector.

High speed CAN communication of body integrated unit which monitor the error data and non-received data
are faulty.
TROUBLE SYMPTOM:
•“Er HC” is displayed in odo/trip meter.
•Malfunction indicator light illuminates.
