The door cannot be locked if either of the front doors is open and the
key is in the engine switch.
Vehicles with a smart key system
The door cannot be locked if the engine switch is in ACCESSORY or
IGNITION ON mode, or the electronic key is left inside the vehi cle.
However, the key may not be detected correctly and the door may be
locked.

Setting and cance
ling the functions
To switch between set and cancel ed, follow the procedure below:
Vehicles without a smart key system: Close all the doors and
switch the engine switch to the “ON” position. (Perform step
within 20 seconds.)
Vehicles with a smart key system : Close all the doors and switch
the engine switch to IGNITION ON mode. (Perform step
within 20 seconds.)
Shift the shift lever to P or N,
and press and hold the
driver's door lock switch

approximately 5 seconds and
then release.
The shift lever and switch posi-
tions corresponding to the
desired function to be set are
shown as follows.
Use the same procedure to cancel the function.

When the setting or canceling oper ation is complete, all doors are
locked and then unlocked.

■Switching the door unlock func tion (vehicles with a smart key system)
It is possible to set which doors the entry function unlocks using the wireless
remote control.
Turn the engine switch off.
When the indicator light on the key surface is not on, press and hold ,
or for approximately 5 seconds while pressing and holding
.
The setting changes each time an operation is performed, as sho wn below.
(When changing the setting continuously, release the buttons, w ait for at least
5 seconds, and repeat step .)
Vehicles with an alarm: To prevent unintended triggering of the alarm, unlock
the doors using the wireless remote control and open and close a door once
after the settings have been changed. (If a door is not opened within 60 sec-
onds after is pressed, the doors will be locked again and the alarm will
automatically be set.)
In case that the alarm is triggered, immediately stop the alarm . ( P. 69)

Conditions affecting the operation of the smart key system or w ireless
remote control (with a wireless remote control function)
Vehicles without a smart key system
The wireless remote control function may not operate normally i n the follow-
ing situations:
● When the wireless key battery is depleted
● Near a TV tower, radio station, electric power plant, airport o r other facility
that generates strong radio waves
● When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone or other wireles s communi-
cation devices
● When multiple wireless keys are in the vicinity
● When the wireless key is in contact with, or is covered by a me tallic object
● When a wireless key (that emits radio waves) is being used near by
● When the wireless key has been left near an electrical applianc e such as a
personal computer
● If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to the
rear window

WARNING
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant f alling out,
resulting in death or serious injury.
● Always use a seat belt.
● Always lock all the doors.
● Ensure that all doors are properly closed.
● Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
The doors may be opened and the passengers are thrown out of th e vehi-
cle and it may result in serious injury or death.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened
even if the inside lock buttons are in locked position.
● Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are seate d in the rear
seats.

A buzzer sounds to indicate that the trunk has been opened.
■ Tr u n k l i g h t
The trunk light turns on when the trunk is opened.
■ Function to prevent th e trunk being locked with the electronic key inside
(vehicles with a smart key system)
● When all doors are being locked, closing the trunk lid with the electronic key
left inside the trunk will sound an alarm.
In this case, the trunk lid can be opened by pressing the trunk release but-
ton on the trunk lid.
● Even when the spare electronic key is put in the trunk with all the doors
locked, the key confinement prevention function can be activated so the
trunk can be opened. In order to prevent theft, take all electr onic keys with
you when leaving the vehicle.
● Even when the electronic key is put in the trunk with all the d oors are locked,
the key may not be detected depending on the places and the sur rounding
radio wave conditions. In this case, the key confinement preven tion function
cannot be activated, causing the doors to lock when the trunk i s closed.
Make sure to check where the key is before closing the trunk.
● The key confinement prevention function cannot be activated if any one of
the doors is unlocked. In this case, open the trunk using the t runk opener.

The trunk unlocking operation can be changed.

The trunk lid can be opened by pushing
the glow-in-the-dark lever located on the
inside of the trunk lid to the side.
The lever will continue to glow for some
time after the trunk lid is closed.

WARNING
■Caution while driving
● Keep the trunk lid closed while driving.
If the trunk lid is left open, it may hit near-by objects while driving or lug-
gage in the trunk may be unexpectedly thrown out, causing an accident.
In addition, exhaust gases may enter the vehicle, causing death or a seri-
ous health hazard. Make sure to close the trunk lid before driv ing.
● Before driving the vehicle, make sure that the trunk lid is fully closed. If the
trunk lid is not fully closed, it may open unexpectedly while driving, caus-
ing an accident.
● Never let anyone sit in the trunk. In the event of sudden braki ng or a colli-
sion, they are susceptible to death or serious injury.
■ When a child is in the vehicle
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
● Do not allow a child to play in the trunk.
If a child is accidentally locked in the trunk, the child could suffer from heat
exhaustion, suffocation or other injuries.
● Do not allow a child to open or close the trunk lid.
Doing so may cause the trunk lid to operate unexpectedly, or ca use the
child’s hands, head, or neck to be caught by the closing trunk lid.
