The alarm uses light and sound to give an alert when an intrusion is
detected.
The alarm is triggered in the following situations when the ala rm is
set:
● A locked door is unlocked or opened in any way other than using
the entry function (vehicles wit h smart key system), wireless r emote
control or mechanical key.
● The hood is opened.
● The locked glass hatch (if equipped) is opened in any way other
than using the entry function (vehicles with smart key system).
● The battery is reconnected.
Close the doors, glass hatch (if
equipped) and hood, and lock all
the doors. The system will be set
automatically after 30 seconds.
The indicator light changes from
being on to flashing when the sys-
tem is set.

Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarms:
● Unlock the doors.
● Vehicles without a smart key sys tem: Turn the engine switch to the
“ACC” or “ON” position, or star t the engine. (The alarm will be deac-
tivated or stopped after a few seconds.)
● Vehicles with a smart key system: Turn the engine switch to
ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode, or start the engine. (The
alarm will be deactivated or s topped after a few seconds.)
● Open the glass hatch (if equipped) using the entry function (ve hi-
cles with smart key system).
■ System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
■ Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft , make sure of
the following:
● Nobody is in the vehicle.
● The windows and the following openings are closed before the al arm is set.
• The glass hatch (if equipped)
• The moon roof (if equipped)
• The panoramic moon roof (if equipped)
● No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.

Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations:
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
■ Alarm-operated door lock
In the following cases, depending on the situation, the door ma y automatically
lock to prevent improper entry into the vehicle:
● When a person remaining in the vehicle unlocks the door and the alarm is
activated.
● While the alarm is activated, a person remaining in the vehicle unlocks the
door.
● When recharging or replacing the battery.
●
A person inside the vehicle opens a door
or hood, or unlocks the vehicle using a
inside lock button.
● The battery is recharged or replaced
when the vehicle is locked. ( P. 642)

■To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify or remove the system. If modified or removed, the proper
operation of the system cannot be guaranteed.

To take out the mechanical key,
push the release button and take
the key out.
The mechanical key can only be
inserted in one direction, as the
key only has grooves on one side.
If the key cannot be inserted in a
lock cylinder, turn it over and re-
attempt to insert it.
After using the mechanical key, store it in the electronic key. Carry the
mechanical key together with the electronic key. If the electro nic key bat-
tery is depleted or the entry function does not operate properl y, you will
need the mechanical key. ( P. 635)

When is pressed for longer than
about one second, an alarm will sound
intermittently and the vehicle lights will
flash to deter any person from trying to
break into or damage your vehicle.
To stop the alarm, press any button on the
wireless remote control.

Key battery depletion
Vehicles without a smart key system
If the wireless remote control function does not operate, the b attery may be
depleted. Replace the battery when necessary. ( P. 549)
Vehicles with a smart key system
● The standard battery life is 1 to 2 years.
● If the battery becomes low, an alarm will sound in the cabin wh en the engine
stops. ( P. 605)
● As the electronic key always receives radio waves, the battery will become
depleted even if the electronic key is not used. The following symptoms indi-
cate that the electronic key battery may be depleted. Replace the battery
when necessary. ( P. 549)
• The smart key system or the wireless remote control does not o perate.
• The detection area becomes smaller.
• The LED indicator on the key surface does not turn on.
● To avoid serious deterioration, do not leave the electronic key within 3 ft. (1
m) of the following electrical appliances that produce a magnet ic field:
•TVs
• Personal computers
• Cellular phones, cordless phones and battery chargers
• Recharging cellular phones or cordless phones
• Table lamps
• Induction cookers
■ When the key battery is fully depleted

The number of electronic keys already registered to the vehicle can be con-
firmed. Ask your Toyota dealer for details.

When the door cannot be locked by the lock sensor on the upper part of
the front door handle (veh icles with a smart key system)
■ Door lock buzzer (vehicles with a smart key system)
If an attempt to lock the doors using the entry function or wir eless remote
control is made when a door is not fully closed, a buzzer will sound continu-
ously for 5 seconds. Fully close the door to stop the buzzer, a nd lock the
doors again.
■ Wireless reservation lock (vehicles without a smart key system)
If a door is not fully closed and the wireless remote control i s used to lock the
doors, the doors other than the open door will be locked. The o pen door will
be locked after it is fully closed.
■ Power back door reservation lo ck (vehicles with a power back do or)
Vehicles without a smart key system
If the wireless remote control is used to lock the doors while the power back
door is closing with all side doors fully closed, the side door s are locked. The
back door will be locked when it is fully closed.
Vehicles with a smart key system
If the wireless remote control is used to lock the doors while the power back
door is closing with all side doors fully closed, a buzzer will sound and the
emergency flashers will flash to indicate that the reservation lock is activated.
At this time the side doors are locked. The back door will be l ocked when it is
fully closed.
■ Alarm (if equipped)
Locking the doors will set the alarm system. ( P. 82)
■ If the smart key system or the wireless remote control does not operate
properly
Vehicles with a smart key system: Use the mechanical key to loc k and unlock
the doors. ( P. 635)
Replace the key battery with a new one if it is depleted. ( P. 549)
If the door will not lock even when the top-
side sensor area is touched, try touching
both the topside and underside sensor
areas at the same time.
