Interior features
nProgramming a rolling code system
If your device is rolling code e
quipped, follow the steps under the
heading “Programming HomeLink ” before proceeding with the
steps listed below.
Locate the training button on the ceiling mounted garage door
opener motor. The exact location and color of the button may
vary by brand of garage door opener motor.
Refer to the operation manual supplied with the garage door opener
motor for the location of the training button.
Press the training button.
Following this step, you have 30 seconds in which to initiate step 3
below.
Press and hold the vehicle’s programmed HomeLink button
for 2 seconds and release it. Repeat this step once again. The
garage door may open.
If the garage door opens, the programming process is complete. If
the door does not open, press and release the button a third time.
This third press and release will complete the programming process
by opening the garage door.
The ceiling mounted garage door opener motor should now recog−
nize the HomeLink
signal and operate the garage door.
Repeat the steps above to prog ram another rolling code sys−
tem for any of the remaining HomeLink
buttons.

nProgramming an entry gate (f or U.S.A. owners)/Programming
all devices in the Canadian market
Place your transmitter 1 to 3 in. (25 to 75 mm) away from the
surface of the HomeLink
.
Keep the HomeLink indicator light in view while programming.
Press and hold the selected HomeLink button.
Repeatedly press and release (cycle) the device’s remote
control button for two seconds each until step 4 is completed.
When the indicator light on the HomeLink
compatible trans−
ceiver starts to flash rapidly, release the buttons.
Test the operation of the HomeLink
by pressing the newly
programmed button. Check to se e if the gate/device operates
correctly.
Repeat the steps above to program another device for each of
the remaining HomeLink
buttons.
nProgramming other devices
To program other devices such
as home security systems, home
door locks or lighting, contact your authorized Toyota dealer for
assistance.
nReprogramming a button
The individual HomeLink
buttons cannot be erased but can be
reprogrammed. To reprogram a button, follow the “Reprogramming
a HomeLink
button” instructions.

Operating HomeLink
Press the appropriate HomeLink button. The HomeLink indicator
light should come on.
The HomeLink compatible transceiver in your vehicle continues to send
a signal for up to 20 seconds as long as the button is pressed.
Reprogramming a HomeLink button
Press and hold the desired HomeLink button. After 20 seconds, the
HomeLink indicator light will start flashing slowly. Next, while still
pressing and holding the HomeLink
button, press and hold the but−
ton on the transmitter until the HomeLink indicator light changes
from a slow to a rapid flash.
Erasing the entire HomeLink memory (all three programs)
Press and hold the 2 outside but−
tons for 10 seconds until the indi−
cator light flashes.
If you sell your vehicle, be sure to
erase the programs stored in the
HomeLink
memory.

nBefore programming
lInstall a new battery in the remote control transmitter.
lThe battery side of the remote control transmitter must be pointed away
from the HomeLink button.
nCertification for the garage door opener
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules and with RSS−210 of the
IC Rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not
cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
WARNING: This transmitter has been tested and complies with FCC and IC
rules. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party respon−
sible for compliance could void the user ’s authority to operate the device.
CAUTION
nWhen programming a garage door or other remote control devices
The garage door or other devices may operate, so ensure people and
objects are out of danger to prevent potential harm.
nConforming to federal safety standards
Do not use the HomeLink
compatible transceiver with any garage door
opener or device that lacks safety stop and reverse features as required by
federal safety standards.
This includes any garage door that cannot detect an interfering object. A
door or device without these features increases the risk of death or serious
injury.

Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior
nAutomatic car washes
lFold the mirrors back and retract the antenna before washing the vehicle.
lBrushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle surface
and harm your vehicle’s paint.
nHigh pressure car washes
lDo not allow the nozzles of the car wash to come within close proximity
of the windows.
lBefore car wash, check that the fuel filler door is closed.
nAluminum wheels
Remove any dirt immediately by using a neutral detergent. Do not use hard
brushes or abrasive cleaners. Do not use strong or harsh chemical cleaners.
Use the same mild detergent and wax as used on the paint.
nBumpers and side moldings
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners. Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in prime
condition.
lWorking from top to bottom, liberally apply water to the vehicle
body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any
dirt and dust.
Wash the vehicle body using a sponge or soft cloth, such as a cham−
ois.
lFor hard−to−remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thor−
oughly with water.
lWipe away any water.
l
Wax the vehicle when the waterproof coating deteriorates.
If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the vehi−
cle body is cool.

Maintenance and care
nTo prevent paint deterioration and corrosion on the body
lWash the vehicle immediately in the following cases:
After driving near the sea coast
After driving on salted roads
If you see coal tar or tree sap on the paint surface
If you see dead insects or insect droppings on the paint
After driving in an area contaminated with soot, oily smoke, mine dust,
iron powder or chemical substances
If the vehicle becomes heavily soiled in dust or mud
If liquids such as benzene and gasoline are spilled on the paint surface
l
If the paint is chipped or scratched, have it repaired immediately.
CAUTION
nCaution about the exhaust pipe
Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust pipe to become quite hot.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch the pipe until it has cooled
sufficiently, as touching a hot exhaust pipe can cause burns.
NOTICE
nTo protect your vehicle’s painted surfaces
Do not use organic cleaners such as benzene or gasoline.
nCleaning the exterior lights
lWash carefully. Do not use organic substances or scrub with a hard brush.
This may damage the surfaces of the lights.

Do not apply wax on the surface of the lights.
Wax may cause damage to the lenses.

Cleaning and protecting the vehicle interior
The following procedures will help protect your vehicle’s interior and
keep it in top condition:
nProtecting the vehicle interior
Remove dirt and dust using a vacuum cleaner. Wipe dirty sur−
faces with a cloth dampened with lukewarm water.
n
Cleaning the leather areas
l
Remove dirt and dust using a vacuum cleaner.
lWipe any excess dirt and dust with a soft cloth dampened with
diluted detergent.
Use a diluted water solution of approximately 5% neutral wool deter−
gent.
lWring out any excess water from the cloth and thoroughly
wipe off all remaining traces of detergent.
l
Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to remove any remain−
ing moisture. Allow the leather to dry in shaded and ventilated
area.
nSynthetic leather areas
lRemove loose dirt using a vacuum cleaner.
l
Apply a mild soap solution to the synthetic leather using a
sponge or soft cloth.
lAllow the solution to soak in for a few minutes. Remove the
dirt and wipe off the solution with a clean, damp cloth.

Maintenance and care
nCleaning the inside of the rear window
Do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as this may cause dam−
age to the rear window defogger heater wires. Use a cloth dampened with
lukewarm water to gently wipe the window clean. Wipe the window in
strokes running parallel to the heater wires or antenna.
nCaring for leather areas
Toyota recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year
to maintain the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
nShampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming−type cleaners available. Use a
sponge or brush to apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not apply
water. The excellent results are obtained by keeping the carpet as dry as
possible.
nSeat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also
check the belts periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
CAUTION
nWater in the vehicle
lBe careful not to splash or spill liquid on the floor.
lDo not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet.

Electrical malfunction may cause the airbags to deploy or not function
properly, resulting in death or serious injury.

NOTICE
nCleaning detergents
Do not use the following types of detergent, as they may discolor the vehicle
interior or cause streaks or damage to painted surfaces.
lNon−seat portions: Organic substances such as benzene or gasoline,
alkaline or acidic solutions, dye, or bleach.
lSeats: Acidic solutions, such as thinner, benzene, or alcohol.
nPreventing damage to leather surfaces
Observe the following precautions to avoid damage to and deterioration of
leather surfaces.
lRemove any dust or dirt on leather surfaces immediately.
lDo not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
Park the vehicle in the shade, especially during summer.
lDo not place items made of vinyl, plastic, or that contain wax on the uphol−
stery, as they may stick to the leather surface if the vehicle interior heats
up significantly.
nWater on the floor
Do not wash the vehicle floor with water.
Vehicle systems such as the audio system may be damaged if water comes
into contact with electrical components under the floor of the vehicle, and
may also cause the body to rust.
n
Cleaning the inside of the rear window
Be careful not to scratch or damage the heater wires or antenna.

Maintenance requirements
nRepair and replacement
It is recommended that genuine Toyota parts be used for repair to ensure
performance of each system. If non−Toyota parts are used in replacement or
if a repair shop other than a Toyota dealer performs repairs, confirm the war−
ranty coverage. To ensure safe and economical driv ing, daytoday care and regular
maintenance is essential. Toyota
recommends the following mainte
nance.
nGeneral maintenance
Should be performed on a daily basis. This can be done by your−
self or by a Toyota dealer.
n
Scheduled maintenance
Should be performed at specified intervals according to the
maintenance schedule.
For details about maintenance items and schedules, read the “Sched−
uled Maintenance Guide”, “Owner ’s Manual Supplement”.
nDoityourself maintenance
You can perform some maintenance procedures yourself.
Please be aware that do−it−yourself maintenance may affect war−
ranty coverage.
The use of Toyota service and repair manuals is recommended.
