WARNING
QBefore using LTA system
ODo not rely solely upon the LTA
system. The LTA system does not automatically drive the vehicle or reduce the amount of attention that
must be paid to the area in front of the vehicle. The driver must always assume full responsibility for driving
safely by paying careful attention to the surrounding conditions and operating the steering wheel to cor-
rect the path of the vehicle. Also, the driver must take adequate breaks when fatigued, such as from
driving for a long period of time.
OFailure to perform appropriate driv-
ing operations and pay careful attention may lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
OWhen not using the LTA system, use the LTA switch to turn the sys-
tem off.
QSituations unsuitable for LTA
system
In the following situations, use the LTA switch to turn the system off.
Failure to do so may lead to an acci- dent, resulting in death or serious injury.
OVehicle is driven on a road surface which is slippery due to rainy
weather, fallen snow, freezing, etc.
OVehicle is driven on a snow-cov-
ered road.
OWhite (yellow) lines are difficult to
see due to rain, snow, fog, dust, etc.
OVehicle is driven in a temporary lane or restricted lane due to con-struction work.
OVehicle is driven in a construction zone.
OA spare tire, tire chains, etc. are equipped.
OWhen the tires have been exces-sively worn, or when the tire infla-tion pressure is low.
OWhen your vehicle is towing a trailer or during emergency towing
QPreventing LTA system malfunc-tions and operations performed
by mistake
ODo not modify the headlights or place stickers, etc. on the surface of
the lights.
ODo not modify the suspension etc. If
the suspension etc. needs to be replaced, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
ODo not install or place anything on
the hood or grille. Also, do not install a grille guard (bull bars, kan-garoo bar, etc.).
OIf your windshield needs repairs, contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
QConditions in which functions may not operate properly
In the following situations, the func-
tions may not operate properly and the vehicle may depart from its lane. Drive safely by always paying careful
attention to your surroundings and operate the steering wheel to correct the path of the vehicle without relying
solely on the functions.

When the system determines that
the vehicle might depart from its
lane or course*, a warning is dis-
played on the multi-information dis-
play, and either a warning buzzer
will sound or the steering wheel will
vibrate to alert the driver.

OThe vehicle is driven on a surface that is bright due to reflected light,

OThe vehicle is driven in an area
where the brightness changes sud- denly, such as at the entrances and exits of tunnels, etc.
OLight from the headlights of an oncoming vehicle, the sun, etc.

OWhen driving in a tunnel or at night with the headlights off or when a headlight is dim due to its lens
being dirty or it being misaligned.
OThe vehicle is struck by a cross-
wind.
OThe vehicle is affected by wind from
a vehicle driven in a nearby lane.
OThe vehicle has just changed lanes
or crossed an intersection.
OTires which differ by structure, man-
ufacturer, brand or tread pattern are used.
OWhen tires of a size other than specified are installed.
OSnow tires, etc. are equipped.
OThe vehicle is being driven at
extremely high speeds.
Functions included in LTA
system

When a vehicle is detected running ahead of you, the system automatically deceler-
ates your vehicle. When a greater reduction in vehicle speed is necessary, the sys-
tem applies the brakes (the stop lights will come on at this time). The system will
respond to changes in the speed of the vehicle ahead in order to maintain the vehi-
cle-to-vehicle distance set by the driver. Approach warning warns you when the sys-
tem cannot decelerate sufficiently to prevent your vehicle from closing in on the
vehicle ahead.
When the vehicle ahead of you stops, your vehicle will also stop (vehicle is stopped
by system control). After the vehicle ahead starts off, pressing the “+RES” switch or
depressing the accelerator pedal (start-off operation) will resume follow-up cruising.
If the start-off operation is not performed, system control continues to keep your
vehicle stopped.
When the turn signal lever is operated and your vehicle moves to an overtaking lane
while driving at 80 km/h (50 mph) or more, the vehicle will accelerate to help to over-
take a passing vehicle.
The system’s identification of what is an overtaking lane may be determined solely
based on the location of the steering wheel in the vehicle (left side driver position
versus right side driver position.) If the vehicle is driven to a region where the over-
taking lane is on a different side from where the vehicle is normally driven, the vehi-
cle may accelerate when the turn signal lever is operated in the opposite direction to
the overtaking lane (e.g., if the driver normally operates the vehicle in a region
where the overtaking lane is to the right but then drives to a region where the over-
taking lane is to the left, the vehicle may accelerate when the right turn signal is acti-
vated).
Example of acceleration
When there are no longer any preceding vehicles driving slower than the
set speed
The system accelerates until the set speed is reached. The system then returns to
constant speed cruising.

QVehicles that can be detected
by the Blind Spot Monitor
The BSM function uses radar sen-
sors to detect the following vehicles
traveling in adjacent lanes and
advises the driver of the presence
of such vehicles via the indicators
WARNING
QTo ensure the system can oper- ate properly
Blind Spot Monitor sensors are installed inside the left and right sides of the rear bumper respectively.
Observe the following to ensure the Blind Spot Monitor can function cor-rectly.
OKeep the sensors and the sur-rounding areas on the rear bumper
clean at all times. If a sensor or its surrounding area on the rear bumper is dirty or cov-
ered with snow, the Blind Spot Monitor may not operate and a warning message ( P.350) will be
displayed. In this situation, clear off the dirt or snow and drive the vehi-cle with the operation conditions of
the BSM function ( P.366) satis- fied for approximately 10 minutes. If the warning message does not dis-
appear, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
ODo not subject a sensor or its sur- rounding area on the rear bumper to a strong impact.
If a sensor is moved even slightly off position, the system may mal-function and vehicles may not be
detected correctly. In the following situations, have your vehicle inspected by any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
• A sensor or its surrounding area is subject to a strong impact.
• If the surrounding area of a sensor
is scratched or dented, or part of them has become disconnected.
ODo not disassemble the sensor.
ODo not attach accessories, stickers
(including transparent stickers), alu- minum tape, etc. to a sensor or its surrounding area on the rear
bumper.
ODo not modify the sensor or sur-
rounding area on the rear bumper.
OIf a sensor or the rear bumper
needs to be removed/installed or replaced, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
ODo not paint the rear bumper any
color other than an official Toyota color.

A sensor may be covered with ice,
snow, dirt, etc. Remove the ice, snow, dirt, etc., from the sensor to return the system to normal.
Also, due to ice forming on a sensor at low temperatures, a warning message may be displayed or the sensor may not
be able to detect an object. Once the ice melts, the system will return to normal.
If a warning message is displayed even
if the sensor is clean, there may be a sensor malfunction. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
QIf “Parking Assist Unavailable” is displayed on the multi-information
display (vehicles with PKSB)
Water may be continuously flowing over the sensor surface, such as in a heavy
rain. When the system determines that it is normal, the system will return to nor-mal.
WARNING
ODo not attach a sticker or install an electronic component, such as a
backlit license plate (especially fluo- rescent type), fog lights, fender pole or wireless antenna near a radar
sensor.
ODo not subject the surrounding area
of the sensor to a strong impact. If subjected to an impact, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer. If the front or rear bumper needs to
be removed/installed or replaced, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.
ODo not modify, disassemble or paint
the sensors.
ODo not attach a license plate cover.
OKeep your tires properly inflated.
QWhen to disable the function
In the following situations, disable the function as it may operate even
though there is no possibility of a colli- sion.
OFailing to observe the warnings
above.
OA non-genuine Toyota suspension
(lowered suspension, etc.) is installed.
QNotes when washing the vehicle
Do not apply intensive bursts of water or steam to the sensor area.
Doing so may result in the sensor malfunctioning.
OWhen using a high pressure washer to wash the vehicle, do not spray the sensors directly, as doing
so may cause a sensor to malfunc- tion.
OWhen using steam to clean the vehicle, do not direct steam too close to the sensors as doing so
may cause a sensor to malfunction.

Press the Trail Mode switch.
Press the Trail Mode switch, to turn the
Trail Mode on. The Trail Mode indicator
light will come on the multi-information
display.
To turn the system off, press the Trail
Mode switch again.
If the tires are spinning, the slip
indicator flashes to indicate that the
Trail Mode is controlling the spin-
ning of the tires.
QTrail Mode
OTrail Mode controls the vehicle so that
it can use the maximum amount of drive force when driving on rough roads. As a result, fuel efficiency may
diminish when compared to driving with Trail Mode off.
OIf Trail Mode is continuously used for a long period of time, depending on the driving conditions, the load on
related parts increases and the sys- tem may not function correctly. In this case, “Traction Control Turned OFF”
will be shown on the multi-information display but the vehicle can be driven normally. The “Traction Control
Turned OFF” on the multi-information display will turn off after a short while
Trail Mode
Trail Mode is designed to con-
trol the spinning of the drive
wheels by integratedly con-
trolling AWD, brake and drive
force control systems. Use the
Trail Mode when driving
bumpy roads, etc.
WARNING
QBefore using Trail Mode
Make sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to observe these precautions may result in an unex-
pected accident.
OTrail mode is intended for use when driving on rough roads.
OCheck that the Trail Mode indicator is illuminated before driving.
OTrail Mode is not intended to expand the limits of the vehicle.
Thoroughly check the road condi- tions and drive with caution.

QDisabling the TRC system
If the vehicle gets stuck in mud, dirt or
snow, the TRC system may reduce
power from the hybrid system to the
wheels.
Pressing to turn the system off may
make it easier for you to rock the vehicle
in order to free it.
To turn the TRC system off, quickly
press and release .
The “Traction Control Turned OFF” will
be shown on the multi-information dis-
play.
Press again to turn the system back
on.
QTurning off the TRC/VSC/Trailer
Sway Control systems
To turn the TRC/VSC/Trailer Sway Con-
trol systems off, press and hold for
more than 3 seconds while the vehicle is
stopped.
The VSC OFF indicator light will come
on and the “Traction Control Turned
OFF” will be shown on the multi-infor-
mation display.

Press again to turn the systems
back on.
*: On vehicles with PCS (Pre-Collision
System), PCS will also be disabled
(only pre-collision warning is avail-
able). The PCS warning light will
come on and a message will be dis-
played on the multi-information dis-

QWhen the message is displayed on

ing that TRC has been disabled
even if has not been pressed
TRC is temporary deactivated. If the
information continues to show, contact
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota

QOperating conditions of hill-start
assist control
When all of the following conditions are
met, the hill-start assist control will oper-
ate:
OThe shift lever is in a position other
than P or N (when starting off for-
ward/backward on an upward incline)
OThe vehicle is stopped
OThe accelerator pedal is not
depressed
OThe parking brake is not engaged
OThe power switch is in ON
QAutomatic system cancelation of
hill-start assist control
The hill-start assist control will turn off in
any of the following situations:
OThe shift lever is shifted to P or N
OThe accelerator pedal is depressed
OThe brake pedal is depressed and the
parking brake is engaged
OA maximum of 2 seconds have
elapsed after the brake pedal is
released
OThe power switch is turned to OFF

OWhen driving over bumps in the road
OWhen driving over roads with pot-holes or uneven surfaces
QTRC/VSC may not operate effec-tively when
Directional control and power may not be achievable while driving on slip-pery road surfaces, even if the
TRC/VSC system is operating. Drive the vehicle carefully in condi-tions where stability and power may
be lost.
QActive Cornering Assist does not
operate effectively when
ODo not overly rely on Active Corner- ing Assist. Active Cornering Assist
may not operate effectively when accelerating down slopes or driving on slippery road surfaces.
OWhen Active Cornering Assist fre-quently operates, Active Cornering
Assist may temporarily stop operat- ing to ensure proper operation of the brakes, TRC and VSC.
QHill-start assist control does not operate effectively when
ODo not overly rely on hill-start assist control. Hill-start assist control may not operate effectively on steep
inclines and roads covered with ice.
OUnlike the parking brake, hill-start
assist control is not intended to hold the vehicle stationary for an extended period of time. Do not
attempt to use hill-start assist con- trol to hold the vehicle on an incline, as doing so may lead to an acci-
dent.
QWhen the TRC/ABS/VSC/Trailer Sway Control is activated
The slip indicator light flashes. Always
drive carefully. Reckless driving may cause an accident. Exercise particular care when the indicator light flashes.
QWhen the TRC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control systems are turned off
Be especially careful and drive at a speed appropriate to the road condi-tions. As these are the systems to
help ensure vehicle stability and driv- ing force, do not turn the TRC/VSC/Trailer Sway Control sys-
tems off unless necessary.
Trailer Sway Control is part of the VSC system and will not operate if
VSC is turned off or experiences a malfunction.
QReplacing tires
Make sure that all tires are of the specified size, brand, tread pattern
and total load capacity. In addition, make sure that the tires are inflated to the recommended tire inflation pres-
sure level. The ABS, TRC, VSC and Trailer Sway Control systems will not func-
tion correctly if different tires are installed on the vehicle.Contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer for further information when replacing tires or
wheels.
QHandling of tires and the suspen-
sion
Using tires with any kind of problem or modifying the suspension will affect
the driving assist systems, and may cause a system to malfunction.

Driving
Perform the following according to
the driving conditions:
 Do not try to forcibly open a win-
dow or move a wiper that is fro-
zen. Pour warm water over the
frozen area to melt the ice. Wipe
away the water immediately to
prevent it from freezing.
 To ensure proper operation of
the climate control system fan,
remove any snow that has accu-
mulated on the air inlet vents in
front of the windshield.
 Check for and remove any
excess ice or snow that may
have accumulated on the exte-
rior lights, vehicle’s roof, chassis,
around the tires or on the brakes.
 Remove any snow or mud from
the bottom of your shoes before
getting in the vehicle.
Accelerate the vehicle slowly, keep
a safe distance between you and
the vehicle ahead, and drive at a
reduced speed suitable to road
conditions.
 Park the vehicle and move the
shift lever to P without setting the
parking brake. The parking brake
may freeze up, preventing it from
being released. If the vehicle is
parked without setting the park-
ing brake, make sure to block the
wheels.
Failure to do so may be danger-
ous because it may cause the
vehicle to move unexpectedly,
possibly leading to an accident.
When the parking brake is in automatic
mode, release the parking brake after
shifting the shift lever to P. ( P.282)
If the vehicle is left parked with
the brakes damp in cold tem-
peratures, there is a possibility of
the brakes freezing.
 If the vehicle is parked without
setting the parking brake, con-
firm that the shift lever cannot be
moved out of P*.
*: The shift lever will be locked if it is
attempted to be shifted from P to any
other position without depressing the
brake pedal. If the shift lever can be
shifted from P, there may be a prob-
lem with the shift lock system. Have
the vehicle inspected by any autho-
rized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reliable repairer
immediately.

When parking the vehicle without
applying the parking brake, make sure to chock the wheels. If you do not chock the wheels, the vehicle may
