Engine hood • The lock system works properly?
Fluid leaks • Is there any leakage after parking?
Tire • Is the tire inflatio n pressure correct?
• The tires should not be damaged or
excessively worn.
• Have the tires been rotated according
to the maintenance schedule?
• The wheel nuts should not be loose.
Windshield wipers/rear
window wiper • The wiper blades should not show any
signs of cracking, splitting, wear, con-
tamination or deformation.
• The wiper blades should clear the
windshield/rear window without streak-
ing or skipping.
CAUTION■ If the engine is running
Turn off the engine and ensure that there is adequate ventilation before per-
forming maintenance checks.

Vehicles with smart key system
Be sure the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is off. With the “ENGINE
START STOP” switch in IGNITION ON mode, the electric cooling fan may
automatically start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or if the coolant
temperature is high. ( P. 499)
Vehicles without smart key system
Be sure the engine switch is in the “LOCK” position. With the engine
switch in the “ON” position, the electric cooling fan may automatically
start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or if the coolant temperature is
high. ( P. 499)
■ When working on or under the vehicle
Do not get under the vehicle with just the jack supporting it.
Always use automotive jack stands or other solid supports.
■ Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. from
getting in your eyes.
NOTICE■ If you remove the air cleaner filter
Driving with the air cleaner filter removed may cause excessive engine wear
due to dirt in the air. Also a backfire could cause a fire in the engine compart-
ment.

Pull the hood release lever. The hood will pop up slightly.
Lift the hood catch and lift the
hood.
Hold the hood open by insert-
ing the supporting rod into the

Check that the hood is fully closed and locked.
If the hood is not locked properly it may open while the vehicle is in motion
and cause an accident, which may result in death or serious injury.
■ After installing the support rod into the slot
Make sure the rod supports the hood securely from falling down on to your
head or body.
NOTICE■ When closing the hood
Be sure to return the support rod to its clip before closing the hood. Closing
the hood with the support rod up could cause the hood to bend.

If the oil level is below or near
the low level mark, add engine
oil of the same type as already in
the engine.
Make sure to check the oil type and prepare the items needed before
adding oil.
Remove the oil filler cap.
Add engine oil slowly, checking the dipstick.
Install the filler cap, turning it clockwise.Engine oil selection P. 616

conditioning efficiency.
■ Removal method
Vehicles with smart key system:
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch off.
Vehicles without smart key system:
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position.
Open the glove box. Slide off
the damper.
Push each side of the glove
box to release the pins. Then
disconnect the claws at the
bottom and remove the glove

blown. If this happens, check and replace the fuses as necessary.
Vehicles with smart key system:
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch off.
Vehicles without smart key system:
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position.
Open the fuse box cover.
Engine compartment
Push the tab in and lift the lid
off.
Driver’s side instrument panel
