according to operation conditions and vehicle specifications.

Do not install tires with different speci- fications or manufacturers, as the tire pressure warning system may not

If a warning message is

malfunctions, incorrectly per-
formed operations, and mes-
sages that indicate a need for
maintenance. When a message
is shown, perform the correc-
tion procedure appropriate to
the message.
If a warning message is dis-
played again after the appropri-
ate actions have been performed,
contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.

When trouble arises
A warning message about an operation
of the brake pedal may be shown while
the driving support systems such as
PCS (Pre-Collision system) (if
equipped) or the dynamic radar cruise
control with full-speed range (if
equipped) is operating. If a warning
message is shown, be sure to deceler-
ate the vehicle or follow an instruction
shown on the multi-information display.
• A warning message is shown when
Brake Override System operates. ( P.301, 574) • A warning message is shown when
Drive-Start Control or Parking Support Brake function (if equipped) operates ( P.301, 420). Follow the instructions
on the multi-information display.
●If a message about an operation of
the power switch is shown
An instruction for operation of the power
switch is shown when the incorrect pro-
cedure for starting the hybrid system is
performed or the power switch is oper-
ated incorrectly. Follow the instructions
shown on the multi-information display
to operate the power switch again.
●If a message about a shift lever opera-
tion is shown
To prevent the shift lever from being
operated incorrectly or the vehicle from
moving unexpectedly, a message that
requires shifting the shift lever may be
shown on the multi-information display.
In that case, follow the instruction of the
message and shift the shift lever.
●If a message or image about an
open/close state of a part or replen- ishment of a consumable is shown
Confirm the part indicated by the multi-
information display or a warning light,
and then perform the coping method
such as closing the open door or replen-
ishing a consumable.
■If a message that indicates the
need for visiting any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-rized repairer, or any reliable
repairer is displayed
The system or part shown on the multi- information display is malfunctioning.
Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
■If a message that indicates the need for referring to Owner’s Man-ual is displayed
●If the following messages are shown, follow the instructions, accordingly.
• “Blind Spot Monitor Unavailable” ( P.394, 578) • “RCTA Unavailable” ( P.394, 578)

●If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction. Immedi-

●If “Maintenance required for DCDC converter cooling parts See Owner’s Manual” is shown, the filter may be
clogged, the air intake vent may be blocked, or there may be a gap in the duct. Therefore, perform the following
correction procedure. • If the air intake vent or filter of the DC/DC converter are dirty, perform
the procedures on P.536 to clean them.• If the warning message is shown
when the air intake vent and filter of the DC/DC converter are not dirty, have the vehicle inspected at any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●If “12-Volt Battery Charging System Malfunction Stop in a Safe Place See
Owner’s Manual” is shown
Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s
charging system. Pull over and stop the
vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
While the message is displayed, the
functions of the air conditioning, etc.
may be partially limited in order to
reduce the power consumption of the
12-volt battery.
■If “Hybrid System Overheated Out- put Power Reduced” is shown
The message may be shown when driv-
ing under severe operating conditions. (For example, when driving up a long steep hill or driving up a steep hill in
reverse.)
Coping method: P.611
■If “Traction Battery Needs to be Protected Refrain from the Use of N
Position” is shown
This message may be displayed when the shift lever is in N.
As the hybrid battery (traction battery) cannot be charged when the shift lever
is in N, shift the shift lever to P when the
vehicle is stopped.
■If “Traction Battery Needs to be Protected Shift into P to Restart” is shown
This message is displayed when the hybrid battery (traction battery) charge has become extremely low because the
shift lever has been left in N for a certain amount of time.
When operating the vehicle, shift to P
and restart the hybrid system.
■If “Shift to P when Parked” is shown
Message is displayed when the driver’s
door is opened without turning the power switch to OFF with the shift lever in any position other than P.
Shift the shift lever to P.
■If “Shift is in N Release Accelerator Before Shifting” is shown
Message is displayed when the acceler-
ator pedal has been depressed and the shift lever is in N. Release the accelera-tor pedal and shift the shift lever to D or
R.
■If “Press Brake when Vehicle is Stopped Hybrid System may Over-heat” is shown
Message is displayed when the acceler- ator pedal is depressed to maintain the vehicle position when stopped on a
upward slope, etc.
If this continues, the hybrid system may overheat.
Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.
■If “Auto Power OFF to Conserve Battery” is shown
Power was turned off due to the auto- matic power off function.
Next time when starting the hybrid sys-
tem, operate the hybrid system for approximately 5 minutes to recharge the 12-volt battery.

■If “Engine Oil Level Low Add or
Replace” is displayed
The engine oil level may be low. Check the level of the engine oil, and add
engine oil if necessary. This message may be displayed if the vehicle is stopped on a slope. Move the vehicle to
a level surface and check if the mes- sage disappears.
■If a message that indicates the mal-function of front camera is dis-
played (if equipped)
The following systems may be sus- pended until the problem shown in the
message is resolved. ( P.353, 568)
●PCS (Pre-Collision System)*
●LTA (Lane Tracing Assist)*
●Automatic High Beam*
●RSA (Road Sign Assist)*
●Dynamic radar cruise control with full-
speed range*
*: If equipped
■If “Radar Cruise Control Unavail- able See Owner’s Manual” is
shown (if equipped)
The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range system (if equipped) is
suspended temporarily or until the prob- lem shown in the message is resolved. (causes and coping methods: P.353)
■If “Radar Cruise Control Unavail-
able” is shown (if equipped)
The dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range system (if equipped)
cannot be used temporarily. Use the system when it becomes available again.

■If a warning light comes on or a warning buzzer sounds when a
warning message is shown on the multi-information display

NOTICE
■“High Power Consumption Par- tial Limit On AC/Heater Opera-
tion” is frequently shown
There is a possible malfunction relat- ing to the charging system or the 12-
volt battery may be deteriorating. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■If “Maintenance required For Traction Battery At Your Dealer” is shown
The hybrid battery (traction battery) is scheduled to be inspected or replaced. Have the vehicle inspected
by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer immediately.
●Continuing to drive the vehicle with- out having the hybrid battery (trac-
tion battery) inspected will cause the hybrid system not to start.
●If the hybrid system does not start, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer immediately.

One of the following may be the
cause of the problem:
The AC charging cable may be
attached to the vehicle.

The electronic key may not be
functioning properly. ( P.604)
There may not be sufficient fuel
in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. ( P.342)
There may be a malfunction in
the immobilizer system. ( P.76)
There may be a malfunction in
the steering lock system.
The hybrid system may be mal-
functioning due to an electrical
problem such as electronic key
battery depletion or a blown fuse.
However, depending on the type
of malfunction, an interim mea-
sure is available to start the
hybrid system. ( P.602)
There is a possibility that the

■Driving with tire chains and the compact spare tire
Do not fit tire chains to the compact spare tire.
Tire chains may damage the vehicle
body and adversely affect driving per- formance.
■When replacing the tires
When removing or fitting the wheels, tires or the tire pressure warning
valve and transmitter, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer as the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter may be dam-aged if not handled correctly.
If the hybrid system will
not start
Reasons for the hybrid system
not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the follow-

6 Open and close any of the doors
of your vehicle with the power
switch off.
7 Maintain the engine speed of
the second vehicle and start the
hybrid system of your vehicle by
turning the power switch to ON.
8 Make sure the “READY” indica-
tor comes on. If the indicator
light does not come on, contact
any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or
any reliable repairer.
9 Once the hybrid system has
started, remove the jumper
cables in the exact reverse
order from which they were con-
nected.
10 Close the exclusive jump start-
ing terminal cover, and reinstall
the fuse box cover to its original
position.
Once the hybrid system starts,
have the vehicle inspected at any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer as soon as possible.
■Starting the hybrid system when
the 12-volt battery is discharged
The hybrid system cannot be started by push-starting.
■To prevent 12-volt battery dis-
charge
●Turn off the headlights and the audio
system while the hybrid system is off.
●Turn off any unnecessary electrical
components when the vehicle is run- ning at a low speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic.
■When the 12-volt battery is
removed or discharged
●Information stored in the ECU is
cleared. When the 12-volt battery is depleted, have the vehicle inspected at any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reli- able repairer.
●Some systems may require initializa-tion. ( P.643)
■When removing the 12-volt battery terminals
When the 12-volt battery terminals are removed, the information stored in the ECU is cleared. Before removing the 12-
volt battery terminals, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
■Charging the 12-volt battery
The electricity stored in the 12-volt bat- tery will discharge gradually even when
the vehicle is not in use, due to natural discharge and the draining effects of certain electrical appliances. If the vehi-
cle is left for a long time, the 12-volt bat- tery may discharge, and the hybrid system may be unable to start. (The 12-
volt battery recharges automatically while the hybrid system is operating.)
■When recharging or replacing the 12-volt battery
●In some cases, it may not be possible to unlock the doors using the smart
entry & start system when the 12-volt battery is discharged. Use the wire-less remote control or the mechanical
key to lock or unlock the doors.
●The hybrid system may not start on
the first attempt after reinstalling the 12-volt battery. In that case, start the hybrid system in the same manner as
when the electronic key does not operate properly ( P.605). This is not

WARNING
■Avoiding 12-volt battery fires or explosions
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidentally igniting the flam-mable gas that may be emitted from
the 12-volt battery:
●Make sure each jumper cable is connected to the correct terminal
and that it is not unintentionally in contact with any other than the intended terminal.
●Do not allow the other end of the jumper cable connected to the “+”
terminal to come into contact with any other parts or metal surfaces in the area, such as brackets or
unpainted metal.
●Do not allow the + and - clamps of
the jumper cables to come into con- tact with each other.
●Do not smoke, use matches, ciga-rette lighters or allow open flame near the 12-volt battery.
■12-volt battery precautions
The 12-volt battery contains poison-
ous and corrosive acidic electrolyte, while related parts contain lead and lead compounds. Observe the follow-
ing precautions when handling the 12-volt battery:
●When working with the 12-volt bat-
tery, always wear safety glasses and take care not to allow any bat-tery fluids (acid) to come into con-
tact with skin, clothing or the vehicle body.
●Do not lean over the 12-volt battery.
●In the event that battery fluid comes
into contact with the skin or eyes, immediately wash the affected area with water and seek medical atten-
tion. Place a wet sponge or cloth over the affected area until medical
attention can be received.
●Always wash your hands after han- dling the 12-volt battery support, terminals, and other battery-related
parts.
●Do not allow children near the 12-
volt battery.
■After recharging the 12-volt bat-
tery
Have the 12-volt battery inspected at any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer as soon as possible.If the 12-volt battery is deteriorating,
continued use may cause the 12-volt battery to emit a malodorous gas, which may be detrimental to the
health of passengers.
■When replacing the 12-volt bat-
tery
●For information regarding 12-volt battery replacement, contact any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●After replacing, securely attach the exhaust hose and exhaust hole
plug to the exhaust hole of the replaced 12-volt battery. If not prop-erly installed, gases (hydrogen)
may leak into the vehicle interior, and there is the possible danger of the gas igniting and exploding.

NOTICE
■When handling jumper cables
When connecting the jumper cables,
ensure that they do not become entangled in the cooling fan, etc.
■To prevent damaging the vehicle
The exclusive jump starting terminal is to be used when charging the 12-
volt battery from another vehicle in an emergency. It cannot be used to jump start another vehicle.
If your vehicle overheats
The following may indicate that
your vehicle is overheating.
The high coolant temperature
warning light ( P.170) comes
on or flashes, or a loss of
hybrid system power is experi-
enced. (For example, the vehi-
cle speed does not increase.)
“Engine Coolant Temp High
Stop in a Safe Place See
Owner’s Manual” or “Hybrid
System Overheated Output
Power Reduced” is shown on
the multi-information display.
Steam comes out from under
the hood.
