Trailer Stability Assist *
Trailer Stability Assist (TSA 18
) is part of the
ESC 19
stability system and is a function
designed to help stabilize a vehicle that is towing a trailer when the vehicle and trailerhave begun to sway. The function is addedwhen installing a towbar. Contact a Volvoretailer for more information.
Reasons for swayingA vehicle towing a trailer may begin to sway for various reasons. Normally this only occursat high speeds. However, if the trailer is over-loaded or unevenly distributed, e.g. too farback, there is a risk of swaying even at lowspeeds. Swaying may be caused by factors such as:
The vehicle and trailer are hit by a sudden, strong crosswind.
The vehicle and trailer are traveling on anuneven road or over a bump.
Sudden movements of the steering wheel.
Once swaying has begun, it can be difficult orimpossible to stop it. This makes the vehicleand trailer difficult to control and there is a riskof swerving into oncoming traffic or driving offthe road.
Trailer Stability Assist functionTrailer Stability Assist continuously monitorsthe vehicle's movements, particularly lateralmovements. If swaying is detected, the brakesare applied individually on the front wheels,which has a stabilizing effect on the vehicleand trailer. This is often enough to enable thedriver to regain control of the vehicle. If the Trailer Stability Assist function's first attempt is not adequate to stop the swayingmotion, the brakes are applied on all wheelsand engine power is temporarily reduced. Asthe swaying motion begins to decrease andthe vehicle and trailer have once againbecome stable, TSA stops regulating thebrakes/engine power and the driver regainscontrol of the vehicle.
NOTE
Trailer Stability Assist is deactivated if the driver activates ESC Sport Mode in the
center display's menu system.
Trailer Stability Assist may not intervene if the driver tries to compensate for the swayingmotion by moving the steering wheel rapidly,because the system will then not be able todetermine if it is the trailer or the driver caus-ing the swaying. When Trailer Stability Assistis activated, the ESC symbolis displayed in the instrumentpanel.
NOTE
A vehicle software update is required when a towbar is retrofitted. Contact a Volvoretailer.

Checking trailer lights
When connecting a trailer, make sure that all of the lights on the trailer are functioningbefore starting to drive.
Trailer turn signals and brake lightsIf one or more of the turn signals or brake lights on the trailer is not working, a symboland message will be displayed in the instru-ment panel. The other lights on the trailermust be checked manually by the driver beforethe vehicle is driven.

If any of the trailer's turn signal lights is not working, the turn signal symbol in the instru-ment panel will also flash more quickly thannormal.
Trailer rear fog lightWhen a trailer is connected, the vehicle's rearfog light may not illuminate and rear fog lightfunctionality is instead transferred to the trailer. If this is the case, check to see if thetrailer is equipped with a rear fog light beforeactivating the vehicle's fog lights when drivingwith a trailer to help ensure safe operation.
Checking trailer lights

Automatic check
When the trailer has been connected to the vehicle's electrical system, its lights can bechecked by automatically activating them.This function helps the driver check that thetrailer's lights are functioning correctly beforestarting to drive. In order to perform this check, the vehicle must be switched off.
1. When a trailer is connected to the towbar,
the message

Check will appear in the instrument panel.
2. Acknowledge the message by pressing the O button on the right-side steering
wheel keypad.
> The light check will begin.
3. Get out of the vehicle to perform the check.
> All of the lights on the trailer will beginflashing, and then illuminate separately one at a time.
4. Visually check that all of the trailer's lights are functioning correctly. 5. After a short time, all of the trailer's lights
will start flashing again.
> The light check is completed.
Disabling the automatic check
The automatic light check can be disabled in the center display. 1.Tap
Settings in the Top view.

3. Deselect
Automatic Trailer Lamp
Check.

If the automatic check has been disabled, the check can be started manually. 1. Tap

Changing waveband and radio station
Instructions for changing wavebands, wave- band lists and radio stations in the selectedlist are provided here.
Changing wavebandsSwipe from App view on the center display and select the desired waveband (e.g. FM) or
open the App menu in the instrument panel with the right-side steering wheel keypad andmake your selection there.
Changing a list in a waveband
1. Tap Library.
2. Select playback from
Stations, Favoritesor Genres.
3. Tap the desired station in the list.
Favorites – only plays selected favorite chan-
nels.
Genres - only plays channels broadcasting the
selected genre or program type, e.g. pop, clas- sical, etc.
Changing radio stations in a selected
list
–Press or under the center display
or on the right-side steering wheel key- pad.
> Move step-by-step through the selected list.
It is also possible to change radio station in the selected list via the center display.

Searching for a radio station
The radio automatically compiles a list of the radio stations that are sending out the stron-gest signals in the vehicle's current location.
Searching is performed in different ways depending on the waveband selected:
FM, stations, genres and frequency.

Searching for a station manually
Searching manually makes it possible to find and tune to stations that are not on the auto-matically compiled list of the strongest sta-tions in the area.

It is possible to add a radio station in the
Radio favorites app and in the list of favor-
ites for the waveband (e.g. FM). Instructions for adding and removing radio channels areprovided below.

Controlling and changing media
Media playback can be controlled using voice commands, the steering wheel keypad or thecenter display.
The media player can be con- trolled using voice com-mands, the right-side steer-ing wheel keypad or the cen-ter display.

When using navigation guidance provided by Android Auto, navigation will only be shownon the center display and not in the instrumentpanel or head-up display. Phone
A phone equipped with Bluetooth can be wirelessly connected to the vehicle's inte-grated hands-free system.
The audio and media system offers hands-free functionality for remotely controlling a numberof the phone's features. The phone's inte-grated controls can also be used, even when itis connected to the vehicle. When the phone has been paired and con- nected to the vehicle, it can be used as anInternet connection or to make or receivecalls, send or receive text messages or wire-lessly play music. The phone is controlled from the center dis- play, and the App menu (accessed using theright-side steering wheel keypad) and voicecommands can also be used to control certainfunctions.

Connecting a phone to the car via Bluetooth for the first time
Pair a Bluetooth-enabled phone to the vehicle to make calls, send/receive text messagesand wirelessly play media from the vehicle, orconnect the vehicle to the Internet.
Two Bluetooth devices can be connected at the same time, but in that case, only one willbe used for wireless playback. The mostrecently paired phone will be automaticallyconnected to make calls, send/receive textmessages, play media or use as an Internetconnection. It is possible to change what the phone is used for under
Bluetooth Devicesvia the settings menu in the center display's Top view. The cellular phone must be equip-ped with Bluetooth and support tethering. After the device has been connected/regis- tered for the first time via Bluetooth, thedevice no longer needs to be visible/searcha-ble. It just needs to have Bluetooth activated.A maximum of 20 paired Bluetooth devicescan be stored in the vehicle. There are two ways to pair a phone to the vehicle. Searching for the phone from the vehi-cle or searching for the vehicle from thephone.
Option 1 - searching for the phone from the vehicle
1. Make the phone discoverable/visible using its Bluetooth function.
2. Open the phone tile in the center display.
If no phone has been paired to the vehi- cle, tap
Add phone.
If a phone has been paired to the vehi- cle, tap
Change. Tap Add phone in
the pop-up window.
> A list of available Bluetooth devices will be displayed. The list will be updated as new devices are discovered.
3. Tap the name of the phone you would like to connect.
4. Make sure that the code displayed in the vehicle matches the one in the phone. If itdoes, confirm the code in both places.
5. In the phone, accept or cancel the options for selecting the phone's contacts and textmessages.
NOTE
The message function must be acti- vated in certain phones.
Not all cell phones are fully compatibleand may not be able to display con-tacts and messages in the vehicle.

A Bluetooth-connected cellular phone's text messages can be handled in the vehicle.
Text message functionality needs to be acti- vated in certain phones. Not all phones arefully compatible and therefore cannot displaycontacts and messages in the vehicle.
