Theparkingheatercanbestartedimmedi-
atelyorsetwithtwodifferentstarttimes
usingTIMER1andTIMER2.Starttime
referstothetimethecarshouldbeheated
andready.
Thecar’selectronicsystemcalculateswhen
heatingshouldbestartedbasedontheoutsidetemperature.Iftheoutsidetemper-
atureexceeds25°C,theheaterdoesnot
switchon.Attemperaturesof–10°Cand
below,themaximumrunningtimeofthe
parkingheateris60minutes.
Iftheparkingheaterdoesnotstartdespite
repeatedattempts,amessageisshownon
thedisplay.ContactanauthorisedVolvo
workshop.
Warningdecalonfuelfillerflap.MessagesonthedisplayOncethesettingsforTIMER1,TIMER2and
DirectStartareactivated,theamberwarning
symbolinthecombinedinstrumentpanel
comesonandexplanatorytextisshownon
thedisplay.
Whenyouleavethecar,youwillreceivea
messageregardingthecurrentsettingsof
thesystem.ParkingonahillIfyouparkyourcaronasteepincline,the
frontofthecarshouldbefacinguptheslope
toensurethesupplyoffueltotheparking
heater.
WARNING!
Switchoffthefuel-drivenheaterbefore
refuelling.Spilledfuelcouldbeignitedby
theexhaustgases.
Checkontheinformationdisplaythat
theheaterisoff.(Whentheadditional
heaterisrunning,PARKHEATONis
shownonthedisplay.)

NOTE!Thefillerflapremainsunlockedforten
minutesafterthecarislocked.Itthenlocks
automatically.FuelfillerflapTheremaybeoverpressureinthetankif
outdoortemperaturesarehigh.Openthecap
slowly.Donotoverfillthefueltank.Stop
refuellingwhenthepumpcutsoutforthefirst
time!Ifthetankisoverfilledfuelmayoverflow
athightemperatures!Afterrefuelling,replacethefuelcapandturn
untiloneormoreclicksisheard.
RefuellingwithpetrolNOTE!Donotaddcleaningadditivesunless
specificallyrecommendedbyaVolvo
workshop.RefuellingwithdieselAtlowtemperatures,paraffincanprecipitate
outofdieselfuel(–5°C-–40°C).Thiscan
causeproblemswhenstarting.Makesure
youuseaspecialwintergradefuelduring
coldperiods.
WARNING!
Nevercarryanactivatedmobilephone
whenrefuellingtheringsignalcould
causesparkbuild-upandignitepetrol
fumes,leadingtofireandinjury.IMPORTANT!Petrol-poweredcarsmustalwaysbe
refuelledwithunleadedpetrolsoasnot
todamagethecatalyticconverter.

Checkthatthebatterycablesarecorrectly
connectedandtightened.
Neverdisconnectthebatterywhenthe
engineisrunning(e.g.ifreplacingthe
battery).
Neveruseaquickchargertochargethe
battery.Thebatterycablesmustbediscon-
nectedwhenchargingthebattery.
Thebatterycontainsacidthatisboth
corrosiveandtoxic.Handlethebatteryinan
environmentally-suitableway.LetyourVolvo
dealerassistyou.
CheckregularlyCheckthefollowingatregularintervals,for
example,whenrefuelling:
Coolant-Thelevelmustbebetweenthe
MINandMAXmarksontheexpansion
tank.
Engineoil-Thelevelmustbebetween
theMINandMAXmarks.
Powersteeringfluid-Thelevelmustbe
betweentheMINandMAXmarks.
Washerfluid-Thereservoirshouldbe
wellfilled.Usewasherantifreezeat
temperaturesaroundfreezing.
Brakeandclutchfluid-Thelevelmustbe
betweentheMINandMAXmarks.
LiftingthecarIfthecarisliftedwithaworkshopjack;
positionthejackwiththefrontedgeonthe
subframe.
Donotdamagethesplashguardunderthe
engine.Ensurethatthejackispositionedso
thatthecarcannotslideoff.Alwaysuseaxle
standsorthelike.
Ifyouliftthecarusingatwopillarworkshop
lift,ensurethatthefrontandrearliftarmsare
fixedundertheliftingpointsonthedoorsill.

Highvoltageoutputfromtheignition
system.Thevoltageintheignitionsystem
isdangerous.Theignitionmusttherefore
alwaysbeswitchedoffforworkinthe

Onlyusedieselfuelfromawell-knownoil
companythatfulfilstherequirementsfor
recommendedfuelgradeasdescribedon
page244.Neverusedieselofdubious
quality.Specialdieselfueldesignedfor
outsidetemperaturesaroundfreezingpointis
availablefromthemajoroilcompanies.This
fuelislessviscousatlowtemperaturesand
reducestheriskofwaxbuildingupinthefuel
system.
Theriskofcondensationbuildingupinthe
tankisreducedifthetankiskeptwellfilled.
Makesurethattheareaaroundthefillerpipe
iscleanwhenrefuelling.
Avoidspillingontothepaintwork.Washoff
anyspillswithdetergentandwater.EmptytankNospecialproceduresarerequiredifthe
tankisrundry.Thefuelsystemisbled
automaticallyiftheignitionswitchiskeptin
positionIIforapprox.60secondsbeforethe
startattempt.
Drainingcondensationfromthe
fuelfilterThefuelfilterseparatescondensationfrom
thefuel.Condensationcandisruptengine
operation.
Thefuelfiltermustbedrainedattheintervals
specifiedintheServiceandWarranty
Bookletorifyoususpectthatthecarhas
beenfilledwithcontaminatedfuel.IMPORTANT!Dieseltypefuelswhichmustnotbeused:
specialadditives,MarineDieselFuel,fuel
oil,RME(RapeMethylEster),vegetable
oil.
Thesefuelsdonotfulfiltherequirements
inaccordancewithVolvorecommenda-
tionsandgenerateincreasedwearand
enginedamagethatisnotcoveredbythe
Volvowarranty.
