Charging cable temperaturemonitoring
To help ensure the vehicle's hybrid battery is reli- ably charged each time it is connected, chargingis stopped if the temperature in the chargingcable becomes too high and reaches a criticallimit.
CAUTION
If charging is often inadvertently interrupted, have the charging cable and the vehicle'scharging system inspected by a trained andqualified Volvo service technician.

Opening and closing the chargingsocket cover
The cover for the hybrid battery's charging socket opens manually.
Unlock the vehicle using the remote key.
Press in the rear edge of the charger door and release.
Open the door.
Remove the charging socket's protective cover and secure it in the holder on theinside of the charger door. Make sure thecover's rubber stopper is bent downward toprevent the cover from falling out of theholder.

Charging status in the vehicle'scharging socket
The charging status is indicated by an LED light in the charging socket.
Location of the LED indicator light in the vehicle's charging socket.
The LED indicator light shows the current charge status during charging. If the LED indicator lightis not illuminated, check to make sure the cableis securely connected in the wall outlet and in theoutlet in the vehicle. A white, red or yellow lightilluminates when the passenger compartmentlighting is activated and will remain illuminated fora short time after the passenger compartmentlighting has gone out.

Starting the vehicle
The vehicle can be started using the start knob in the tunnel console when the remote key is inthe passenger compartment.

WARNING
Before starting:
• Buckle your seat belt.
• Adjust the seat, steering wheel and mir- rors.
• Make sure you can fully depress thebrake pedal. The remote key is not physically used to start theignition because the vehicle is equipped with thekeyless Passive Start system. To start the vehicle:
1. The remote key must be inside the vehicle.
For vehicles with Passive Start, the key must be in the front section of the passengercompartment. With the optional keyless lock- ing/unlocking function *, the key can be any-
where in the vehicle.
2. Press and hold down the brake pedal 1
as far
as possible.
3. Turn the start knob clockwise and release. The control will automatically return to the original position.
WARNING
• Never use more than one inlay mat at a time on the driver's floor. If any other typeof floor mat is used, remove the originalmat from the driver's seat floor beforedriving. All types of mats must be securelyanchored in the attachment points in thefloor. Make sure the floor mat does notimpede the movement of the brake pedalor accelerator pedal in any way, as thiscould be a serious safety hazard.
• Volvo's floor mats are specially manufac-tured for your vehicle. They must be prop-erly secured in the attachment points inthe floor to help ensure they cannot slideand become trapped under the pedals.
The starter motor will crank until the enginestarts or until its overheating protection is trig-gered. During normal start conditions, the vehicle's elec- tric motor will be prioritized and the gasolineengine will remain off. This means that once thestart knob is turned clockwise, the electric motorhas been "started" and the vehicle is ready to bedriven. The warning and information symbols inthe instrument panel will go out and the selectedtheme will be displayed to indicate that the elec-tric motor is activated.
1 If the vehicle is moving, it is only necessary to turn the start knob clockwise to start the engine.

Leveling control * and suspension
The vehicle's leveling control system adjusts the suspension and shock absorbers automaticallyto help provide good comfort and control whiledriving. Leveling can also be controlled manuallyto facilitate loading or getting in and out of thevehicle.
Pneumatic suspension and shock absorbers
The system is adapted to the selected drive mode and vehicle speed. The pneumatic suspen-sion reduces the vehicle's ground clearance athigher speeds to reduce air resistance andincrease stability. The shock absorbers are nor-mally set to provide the best possible comfort and are adjusted continuously according to theroad surface and the vehicle's acceleration, brak-ing and cornering.
The instrument panel indicateswhen the suspension level isbeing adjusted.The level cannot be adjusted when any of the side doors or the tailgate is open.
ParkingWhen parking, make sure that there is adequatespace above and below the vehicle since ground clearance may vary depending on e.g. ambienttemperature, how the vehicle is loaded, if loadingmode is used, which drive mode is selected afterthe engine is started, etc. The level may also be adjusted a period after the vehicle is parked. This is to compensate for anyheight changes that may occur due to tempera-ture changes in the air springs when the vehiclecools.
TransportingWhen transporting the vehicle on a ferry, train ortruck, only secure (lash) the vehicle around thetires, not using any other parts of the chassis.Changes in the pneumatic suspension may occurduring transport, which could adversely affect thelashing and result in damage.

Put the ignition in mode 0.
2. Make sure the auxiliary battery (the battery used to jump start the discharged battery) has a voltage of 12 volts.
3. If the auxiliary battery is in another vehicle, turn off that vehicle's engine and make surethat the vehicles are not touching each other.
4. Clamp the red jumper cable onto the auxiliary battery's positive (+) terminal (1).
CAUTION
Connect the jump cable carefully to prevent short circuits with other components in theengine compartment.
5. Fold back the cover over your vehicle's posi- tive (+) jump start terminal (2).
6. Clamp the other end of the red jumper cable to your vehicle's positive (+) jump start termi- nal (2).
7. Clamp the black jumper cable onto the auxili- ary battery's negative (-) terminal (3).
8. Clamp the other end of the black jumper cable to your vehicle's negative (-) groundpoint (4).
9. Make sure the jumper cables are securely attached to help prevent sparks while jumpstarting. 10. Start the engine of the assisting vehicle and
let it run for a few minutes at a higher idlingspeed than normal, about 1500 rpm.
11. Start your vehicle's engine. If the engine does not start, allow an additional 10minutes of charging time and then try to startthe engine again.
NOTE
When the engine is started under normal conditions, the vehicle's electrical drive motoris prioritized – the gasoline engine remainsoff. This means that the electric motor has"started" and the vehicle is ready to be drivenonce the start knob has been turned clock-wise. Start of the electric motor is indicatedby the indicator lights on the instrument panelgoing out and its preselected theme illuminat-ing.
CAUTION
Do not touch the connections between the cable and the vehicle during the start attempt.Risk of sparking.
12. Remove the jumper cables in the reverse
order ‒ first the black cables and then the
red cables. Make sure that none of the clamps of the black jumper cables come into contact witheither vehicle's positive (+) jump start termi-nals or either of the red jumper cable's con-nected clamps.

• Batteries generate hydrogen gas, which is flammable and explosive.
• Do not connect the jumper cable to anypart of the fuel system or to any movingparts. Avoid touching hot manifolds.
• Battery fluid contains sulfuric acid. Do notallow battery fluid to contact eyes, skin,fabrics or painted surfaces.

•If contact occurs, flush the affected area immediately with water. Obtain medicalhelp immediately if eyes are affected.
• Never expose the battery to open flameor electric spark. Do not smoke near thebattery. Failure to follow the instructionsfor jump starting can lead to injury.
NOTE
The vehicle cannot be started if the hybrid battery is discharged.

Installing the ball holder1. If necessary, remove the cotter pin from the locking bolt and slide the locking bolt out of the towbar assembly.
2. Slide the ball holder into the towbar assem- bly.
3. Align the hole in the ball holder with the one in the towbar assembly.
4. Slide the locking bolt through the towbar assembly/ball holder.
5. Insert the cotter pin in the hole at the end of the locking bolt.
WARNING
• Be sure the towbar is securely locked in position before attaching anything to it.
• Always attach the trailer's safety wiresecurely to the towbar's safety wireattachment bracket.
Removing the ball holder1. Remove the cotter pin from the locking bolt
and slide the locking bolt out of the ballholder/towbar assembly.
2. Pull the ball holder out of the towbar assem- bly.

Towing using a towlineThis section refers to one vehicle being towed behind another using a towline.
Twin Engine vehicles may not be towed behind another vehicle due to the risk of damage to theelectric motor. If the vehicle cannot be driven andneeds to be moved, it must be transported on atow truck with all four wheels on the bed of thetruck.
Towing another vehicleTowing another vehicle requires a lot of power - use the AWD drive mode. This helps charge the
hybrid battery and improve the vehicle's driving and roadholding characteristics. Before towing another vehicle, check applicable speed limit regulations.
Jump startingDo not tow the vehicle to start the engine. Use anauxiliary battery if the start battery's charge levelis so low that the engine cannot be started.
CAUTION
Attempts to tow-start the vehicle could cause damage to the electrical drive motor andthree-way catalytic converter.

Attaching and removing the towingeyelet
Use the towing eyelet to tow another vehicle. Screw the towing eyelet securely into place inthe threaded outlet behind the cover on theright-hand side of the rear bumper.
NOTE
If the vehicle is equipped with a towbar, there is no rear attachment for the towing eye.

Take out the towing eyelet, which is stored in a foam block under the floor in the cargocompartment.

Remove the cover - press the marker with your finger while prying open the oppositeside/corner open with a coin or similar.
> The cover turns along its center line and
can then be removed. 3. Screw in the towing eyelet until it reaches its
stop. Fasten the eyelet securing by, for exam- ple, inserting a lug wrench * through it and
using this as a lever.
CAUTION
It is important that the towing eye is screwed in securely as far as possible.
Removing the towing eyelet:
–After use, unscrew the towing eyelet and return it to its storage location. Replace the cover on the bumper.

Recovery
This section refers to transporting the vehicle with a tow truck or similar vehicle.
Call a professional towing service for assistance. In certain conditions, the towing eyelet can be used to pull the vehicle onto a flatbed tow truck.
CAUTION
Note that vehicles with Twin Engine must always be towed raised with all wheels on thetow truck.
For vehicles equipped with leveling control *:
If the vehicle is equipped with pneumatic suspen- sion, this feature must be turned off before thevehicle is lifted onto a tow truck. Turning off thefunction in the center display. 1. Tap

Disable Leveling Control.
The vehicle's location and ground clearance determine if it can be lifted onto a tow truck. Ifthe incline of the tow truck is too steep or if theground clearance under the vehicle is insufficient,attempting to pull it up may result in damage. Inthis case, the vehicle should only be lifted withthe tow truck's lifting equipment.

Programming HomeLink®

Follow these instructions to program HomeLink ®
, reset all programming, or program
individual buttons.
NOTE
In some vehicles, the ignition must be on or in the "accessory position" before HomeLink ®
can be programmed or used. It can be a good idea to put new batteries in the remote con- trol being replaced by HomeLink ®
for faster
programming and better radio signal trans-mission. The HomeLink ®
buttons should be
reset before programming.
WARNING
While HomeLink ®
is being programmed, the
garage door or gate being programmed may be activated. Make sure that no one is nearthe door or gate during programming. Whenprogramming a garage door opener, it isadvised to park outside of the garage. 1.
Point the remote control at the HomeLink ®
button to be programmed and hold it about 2-8 cm (1-3 inches) from the button. Do not obstruct the HomeLink ®
indicator light.
Note: Some remote controls are more effec-
tive at programming HomeLink ®
from a dis-
tance of about 15-20 cm (6-12 inches). Try moving the remote control closer or furtheraway if you are experiencing any difficultiesprogramming.
2. Press and hold both the remote control but- ton and the HomeLink ®
button to be pro-
grammed.
3. Do not release the buttons until the indicator light has stopped flashing slowly (about oncea second) and either flashes quickly (about10 times a second) or glows steadily. >Steady glow: Indication that program-
ming is complete. Press the programmed button twice to activate. Flashing quickly: The device being pro-
grammed with HomeLink ®
may have a
security function that requires an extra step. Try pressing the programmed buttontwice to see whether the programmingworks. Otherwise, continue with the fol-lowing steps.
4. Locate the "training" button 13
on the
receiver for the e.g. garage door opener. It is usually located near the antenna bracket onthe receiver.
5. Press and release the "training" button once. Programming must be completed within 30seconds after pressing the button.
6. Press and release the HomeLink ®
button to
be programmed. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence a second time. For somereceivers, the sequence may need to berepeated a third time.
> Programming is now completed and the garage door, gate, etc. should now be activated when the programmed button ispressed.

Activating and deactivating thecompass
An integrated compass in the upper right corner of the rearview mirror shows the direction thevehicle is traveling.
Activating and deactivating the compass
The compass is automatically activated when the vehicle is started. To deactivate/activate the compass manually:
–Use a paper clip or similar object to press the button on the bottom of the mirror.

Calibrating the compass
The globe is divided into 15 magnetic zones. The compass should be calibrated if the vehicleis driven from one zone to another.
To calibrate the compass:
1. Stop the vehicle in a large, open area away from steel constructions and high-voltage power lines.
2. Start the engine and switch off all electrical equipment (climate system, wipers, etc.) andmake sure all doors are closed.
NOTE
Calibration may fail or not even be initiated if electrical equipment is not turned off.
3. Hold the button on the bottom of the rear-view mirror pressed for about 3 seconds (using e.g. a paper clip). The number of thecurrent magnetic zone is shown.

4. Press the button on the underside of themirror repeatedly until the desired magnetic zone (
1–15) appears (see the map of mag-
netic zones).
5. Wait until the display again shows
C, or
press and hold the button on the underside of the rearview mirror for approx. 6 seconds until
C is displayed.
6. Drive slowly in a circle at a speed of no more than 10 km/h (6 mph) until a compass direc- tion is shown in the display. This indicatesthat calibration is complete. Drive in a circletwo more times to fine-tune the calibration.
7. Vehicles with heated windshields *: If
C is
shown in the display when the windshield heating function is activated, perform step 6above with the heating function on.
