Setting a maximum height for the power tailgate *
The tailgate can be set to stop opening at a certain height, for example if the tailgateneeds to be opened in a garage with a lowceiling.
Setting maximum opening height:
1. Open the tailgate to the desired opening height.
NOTE
It is not possible to program an opening position lower than half-open tailgate.
2.Press the button on the lower edge of
the tailgate and hold for at least 3 seconds.
> Two brief audio signals will sound to indicate that the position has been stored.
Resetting to maximum opening position:
–Move the tailgate manually to its highest possible position and press the
but-
ton on the tailgate for at least 3 seconds.
> Two audio signals will sound to indicate that the stored position has been erased. The tailgate can then beopened to its maximum position.
NOTE
If the system has been working contin- uously for a prolonged period of time, itwill be switched off to avoid overload.It can be used again after approxi-mately 2 minutes.

Foot movement tailgate operation *
To make it easier to operate the tailgate when your hands are full, it can be opened andclosed by moving your foot in a forward kick-ing motion under the rear bumper.
The sensor is located to the left of center under the rear bumper 14
.
One of the vehicle's remote keys must be within range behind the vehicle, approx.1 meter (3 feet), for opening and closing to bepossible. This applies even if the vehicle isunlocked in order to prevent the trunk lid frominadvertently opening e.g. at a car wash.

Foot movement operation
Kicking motion within the sensor's activation area.
–Make one slow forward kicking motion
with your foot under the left section of the rear bumper. Take a step back. Do nottouch the bumper.
> A brief audible signal will be heard when opening or closing is activated - the tailgate will open/close.
If several opening attempts have been madewithout the remote key in range behind thevehicle, foot movement operation will not beavailable for a short period of time. Do not keep your foot under the vehicle in a kicking motion. This may prevent activation.
Interrupting opening or closing with a foot movement
–Make one slow forward kicking motion
while the tailgate is opening or closing to stop its movement.
The remote key does not need to be withinrange of the vehicle to interrupt opening orclosing of the tailgate. If the tailgate stops near the closed position, it will open the next time it is activated.
NOTE
There is a risk of reduced or lost function if there are large amounts of snow, ice, dirt,etc. on the rear bumper. Make sure to keepthe bumper clean.
NOTE
Please note that the system could be inad- vertently activated in a car wash or similarif the remote key is within range.
Vehicle with skid plate accessory *If the vehicle is equipped with skid plate, the sensor is located towards the left corner of thebumper.
To activate opening and closing using a foot movement on a vehicle with skid plate, make akicking motion from the side of the vehicle.One of the vehicle's remote keys must bewithin range (approx. 1 meter (3 feet)) foropening and closing to be possible.

Private Locking The tailgate and the glove compartment can be locked using the private locking functionto prevent them from being opened, e.g.when the vehicle is left at a workshop or witha valet.
The function button for pri- vate locking is located in thecenter display's Functionview. Depending on the cur-rent status of the lock,
Private Locking Unlockedor Private Locking Lockedwill be displayed.

Activating and deactivating private locking
Private locking is activated using the function button in the center display and a PIN code.
NOTE
For the valet lock function to be activated the car must be in at least ignition mode I.
Two codes are used for private locking:
A security code, which is created the first time the function is used.
A PIN code, which is changed each timethe function is activated.
Entering security code before initial
use
The first time the function is used, a securitycode must be selected. This code can then beused to deactivate private locking if theselected PIN code has been forgotten or lost.The security code functions as a PUK (secur-ity) code for all PIN codes used for privatelocking. Save the security code in a safe place.

To create a security code:
1. Tap the button for private locking in Func-
tion view.
> A pop-up window will appear.
2. Enter the desired security code and press
Confirm.
> The security code is saved. The private locking function is now ready for activa- tion.
Activating private locking1. Tap the button for private locking in Func- tion view.
> A pop-up window will appear. 2. Enter the code you would like to use to
unlock the glove compartment and the tailgate and tap
Confirm.
> The glove compartment and tailgate will lock. A green indicator light will illu- minate next to the button in Functionview to confirm locked status.
Deactivating private locking1. Tap the button for private locking in Func- tion view.
> A pop-up window will appear.
2. Enter the code used for locking and tap
Confirm.
> The glove compartment and tailgate will unlock. The green indicator light next to the button in Function view willgo out to confirm unlocked status.
Forgotten PIN codeIf you have forgotten your PIN code or enteredit incorrectly more than three times, the secur-ity code can be used to deactivate privatelocking. If the vehicle is unlocked using Volvo On Callor the Volvo On Call app, private locking willbe automatically deactivated.
Forgotten security code
If you have forgotten your security code, con- tact an authorized Volvo retailer for assistancedeactivating private locking.

Alarm The alarm emits sound and light signals if anyone without a valid remote key attemptsto break into the vehicle or interferes with thestart battery or alarm siren.
When armed, the alarm will be triggered if:
the hood, tailgate or any door is opened.
a battery cable is disconnected.
the alarm siren is disconnected.
Alarm signalsThe following occurs if the alarm is triggered:
A siren will sound for 30 seconds or until the alarm is turned off.
The hazard warning flashers will flash for5 minutes or until the alarm is turned off.
If the reason the alarm was triggered is notrectified, the alarm cycle will repeat up to 10 times 15
.
Alarm indicator
A red indicator light on the dashboard shows the status of the alarm:
Indicator off - the alarm is disarmed.
Indicator flashes once every two seconds -the alarm is armed.
The indicator flashes quickly after thealarm has been disabled for up to30 seconds or until the ignition is put in

mode – the alarm has been triggered.
In the event of alarm system failureIf a problem is detected in the alarmsystem, a symbol and the message

Arming and disarming the alarm
The alarm is armed when the vehicle is locked.

Disarming the alarm without a functioning
remote key
The vehicle can be unlocked and disarmed even if the remote key is not functioning, e.g. ifthe battery is discharged.
1. Open the driver's door using the detacha- ble key blade.
> This will trigger the alarm.
Location of the backup key reader in the cup holder.
2. Place the remote key on the key symbol inthe backup reader in the tunnel console's cup holder. 3. Turn the start knob clockwise and release.
> The alarm will be disarmed.
Turning off a triggered alarm–Press the unlock button on the remote key or put the ignition into mode I by turning
the start knob clockwise and then releas-ing it.
Automatically arming and disarming the alarm
Automatically arming the alarm helps prevent inadvertently leaving the vehicle without alarmprotection. If the vehicle is unlocked using the remote key (and the alarm is disarmed) but none of thedoors or tailgate are opened within twominutes, the alarm will be automaticallyrearmed. The vehicle will also re-lock. On some markets, the alarm will be automati- cally armed following a slight delay after thedriver's door has been opened and closedwithout being locked. To change this setting:1. Tap

Electronic Stability Control in sport mode The stability system (ESC 6
) is always acti-
vated and cannot be switched off. However, the driver can select
ESC Sport Mode,
which offers more active driving characteris- tics.
With the ESC Sport Mode sub-function
selected, intervention from the system is reduced and more lateral movement is permit-ted, giving the driver more control of the vehi-cle than usual. When
ESC Sport Mode is selected, the func-
tion may seem to be disabled even though it continues to assist the driver.
NOTE
When ESC Sport Mode is selected, the
trailer stabilizer (TSA 7
) is switched off.
ESC Sport Mode also helps provide more
traction, even if the vehicle gets stuck or is driving on a loose surface such as deep snowor loose sand.

mode Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC 28
) can be deac-
tivated and put in standby mode. This may happen automatically or be due to driverintervention.
Standby mode means that the function is selected in the instrument panel but not acti-vated. In standby mode, Adaptive Cruise Con-trol will not regulate speed or distance to thevehicle ahead.
Standby mode due to action by the
driver
Adaptive Cruise Control will be deactivatedand put in standby mode if any of the follow-ing occurs:
The brakes are applied.
The gear selector is moved to
N.
The vehicle is driven faster than the setspeed for more than 1 minute.
Temporarily increasing speed using the accel-erator pedal, e.g. when passing another vehi-cle, will not affect the setting. The vehicle willreturn to the set speed when the acceleratorpedal is released.
WARNING
If Adaptive Cruise Control is in standby mode, the driver must intervene andregulate both speed and distance tothe vehicle ahead.
If the vehicle comes too close to a vehi-cle ahead when Adaptive Cruise Con-trol is in standby mode, the driver canbe warned of the short distance by the Distance Alert
* function.
Automatic standby modeAdaptive Cruise Control is dependent on other systems, such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC 29
). If any of these other systems stops
working, Adaptive Cruise Control will be auto- matically deactivated.
WARNING
With automatic standby mode, the driver is warned by an acoustic signal and a mes-sage on the instrument panel.
The driver must then regulate vehicle speed, apply the brakes if necessary,and maintain a safe distance to othervehicles. Adaptive Cruise Control may go into standbymode if:
your vehicle's speed goes below 5 km/h(3 mph) and ACC cannot determine if thevehicle ahead is stationary or if it isanother object, e.g. a speed bump.
your vehicle's speed goes under 5 km/h(3 mph) and the vehicle ahead turns sothat ACC no longer has a vehicle to follow.
the driver opens the door.
the driver unbuckles the seat belt.
the engine speed (rpm) is too low/high.
one or more of the wheels lose traction.
the brake temperature is high.
the parking brake is applied.
the camera/radar sensor is covered bysnow or heavy rain (the camera lens/radarwaves are blocked).Related information
