The remote key's buttons
The remote key has four buttons: one on the left sideand three on the right side
Lock: Press to lock the doors/tailgate andarm the alarm.
Unlock: Press to unlock the driver's doorand disarm the alarm. Press again to unlockthe other doors and the tailgate. This settingcan be changed in the center display's Set-tings menu.
Tailgate: Press to unlock the tailgate only(and disarm the alarm for the tailgate). Onvehicles equipped with the power tailgate*,press and hold to open the tailgate. Pressand hold to close an open tailgate (an audi-ble warning signal will sound).
Panic alarm: Press to attract attention dur-ing emergency situations. To activate, pressand hold this button for at least 3 seconds orpress it twice within 3 seconds to activate
the turn signals and horn. To deactivate,wait approximately 5 seconds and press thebutton again (the panic alarm will also deac-tivate automatically after several minutes).
Interference
Metallic objects or electromagnetic fields mayinterfere with the remote key's function. Avoidplacing the remote key within 4-6 in. (10-15 cm)of a cell phone or a metallic object.
If interference persists, use the remote key'sdetachable key blade to unlock the vehicle andplace the remote key in the backup key reader inthe tunnel console cup holder.
Loss of a remote key
If a remote keys is lost, a new one can beordered. The other keys should be taken with thevehicle to a Volvo retailer or authorized independ-ent locksmith. As an anti-theft measure, the codeof the lost remote key must be erased from thesystem. The number of registered keys for thevehicle can be found in the center display's Topview.

If a remote key is lost, the others should be takenwith the vehicle to a Volvo retailer. As an anti-theft measure, the code of the lost remote keymust be erased from the system. The number ofregistered keys for the vehicle can be found inthe center display's Top view.
NOTE
Additional or duplicate remote control keyscan be obtained from any authorized Volvoretailer.
You can also obtain additional or duplicateremote control keys from certain independentrepair facilities and locksmiths that are quali-fied to make remote control keys. Each keymust be programmed to work with your vehi-cle.
A list of independent repair facilities and/orlocksmiths known to Volvo that can cut andcode replacement keys can be found:

Remote key's range
In order to function correctly, the remote keymust be within a certain distance of the vehicle.
Manual use
The remote key's functions, such as locking andunlocking the vehicle, which are activated by
pressing the or buttons, have a rangeof approx. 65 feet (20 meters) from the vehicle.
Buildings or other obstacles may interfere withthe function of the remote key. The vehicle canalso be locked or unlocked with the key blade.
If the vehicle's locks do not react, move closerand try again.
Keyless use 3
The shaded areas illustrate the range of the PassiveEntry system's antennas
For keyless entry into the vehicle, the remote keymust be within approximately 5 feet (1.5 meters)of the sides of the vehicle or approximately 3 feet(1 meter) of the tailgate as shown in the illustra-tion.
The remote key may not function properly due toambient radio waves, buildings or topographicalobstructions, etc. The vehicle can always belocked/unlocked with the detachable key blade.
If the remote key is removed from the
vehicle
If all of the remote keys are removed from thevehicle while the engine is running, Vehicle keynot found Removed from vehicle will be dis-played in the instrument panel and an audiblesignal will sound when all of the doors have beenclosed. The message will be erased when aremote key has been returned to the vehicle andthe O button on the right-side steering wheelkeypad has been pressed or when all of thedoors have been closed again.

Red Key*
The Red Key (also referred to as a restrictedkey) makes it possible to limit several of the vehi-cle's functions to help ensure that it is operatedsafely, for instance if the vehicle is used by ayoung driver.
A Red Key makes it possible to limit the vehicle'smaximum speed, add speed reminders and limitthe audio system's volume. Several of the vehi-cle's safety systems will also always be active.Otherwise, this key functions in the same way asa standard remote key.
One or more Red Keys can be ordered from aVolvo retailer after the vehicle has been pur-chased. A total of 11 keys can be programmedand used for the same vehicle, one of which hasto be a standard remote key.

Settings for the Red Key can be made by astandard remote key user from the center dis-
play's Top view under: SettingsSystem
Driver ProfileRed key.
Several of the vehicle's safety function cannot beturned off by a Red Key user.
The restrictions are designed to help reduce therisk of an accident and they cannot be changedby a Red Key user. These settings cannot bechanged by the Red Key's user.
Possible settings
The following settings can be made for a RedKey:
Speed Limiter * (On/Off)
•Setting interval: 30-160 mph (50-250 km/h)
•Default setting: 75 mph (120 km/h)
•Increments: 1 mph (1 km/h)
This symbol will appear in the instru-ment panel and the message RedkeySpeed limitation cannot beexceeded will be displayed if thedriver attempts to exceed the set maximumspeed.

Speed reminder (On/Off):
•Setting interval: 0-155 mph (0-250 km/h
•Default settings: 30, 45 and 55 mph (50, 70and 90 km/h.)
•Increments: 1 mph (1 km/h)

Detachable key blade
Your vehicle's remote key contains a detachablekey blade that can be used to unlock the driver'sdoor, etc.
A Volvo retailer can provide you with the keyblade's unique code.
Using the detachable key blade
The remote key's detachable key blade can beused to:
•Unlock the driver's door if the central lockingsystem cannot be activated using the remotekey
•Lock all doors
•Activate/deactivate the mechanical childsafety locks in the rear doors
The Key Tag4 does not have a detachable keyblade.
Detaching the key blade
Hold the remote key with the front side(with the Volvo symbol) toward you and movethe button on lower edge of the key near thekey ring to the right. Slide the front coverslightly upward.
The cover will loosen and can beremoved from the key.
Remove the key blade.
After use, press the key blade back intoits position in the key, put the cover back onthe key and slide it into position.
>A click indicates that the cover is correctlyin place.

Foot movement tailgate operation*
The foot movement sensor* simplifies opening or
closing the tailgate if your hands are full.5
The foot movement sensor is located to the left of cen-ter under the rear bumper6
NOTE
One of the remote keys must be in your pos-session or within range when you are behindthe vehicle in order to activate the foot move-ment sensor, even if the tailgate is alreadyunlocked. This is done to help prevent thesensor from inadvertently opening the tail-gate, for example, in a car wash.
Be sure that the key is not within range whenthe vehicle is in an automatic carwash.
Operation
Kicking motion under the sensor's activation area
Opening/closing
–With the remote key within range, move yourfoot slowly forward in a kicking motion belowthe left section of the rear bumper withouttouching the bumper and take a step back.
>A brief audible signal will sound when thetailgate begins to open/close.
The tailgate can be closed (or closed and locked)
by pressing the or buttons on the lower
edge of the tailgate7.
It can also be operated manually or by pressingthe button on the lighting panel in the passengercompartment or on the remote key.
If several attempts have been made to open/close the tailgate using the foot sensor without aremote key within range, the function will timeout and will not be available for a short period.
NOTE
Foot operation may not be possible or func-tion normally if the sensor is obstructed bysnow, ice, dirt, etc.

Interrupting opening/closing
–Move your foot slowly forward in a kickingmotion while the tailgate is opening/closingto stop its movement.
No remote keys need to be within range in orderto interrupt movement of the tailgate.
Vehicles equipped with a skid plate/
diffuser *
If the vehicle is equipped with a skid plate/diffuser*, the sensor is located under the left cor-ner of the rear bumper.

To open/close the tailgate, make the kickingmotion from the side of the rear bumper.

Locking/unlocking from outside thevehicle
The buttons on the remote key can be used tolock or unlock all doors and the tailgate at thesame time. This can also be done without press-ing the remote key buttons on models equippedwith the optional keyless Passive Entry system.The power tailgate* can also be opened/closedby moving your foot under a sensor beneath therear bumper.
Locking and unlocking
The lock/unlock settings can be changed in thecenter display's Top view.
Go to: SettingsMy CarRemote Unlockand select Unlock All Doors or Driver DoorOnly.
In order to lock the vehicle, the driver's door mustbe closed. If the tailgate or any of the other doorsare open, they will be locked and the alarm will bearmed when they are closed.
NOTE
Be sure the remote key is outside of the vehi-cle before the other doors/tailgate are closedto help avoid locking the remote inside thevehicle.
The settings made for the Remote Unlock func-tion also affect the central locking system when a

door is opened from inside the vehicle using adoor handle. See also the article "Locking/unlocking from inside the vehicle" for additionalinformation.
If the locks repeatedly do not react when theunlock button is pressed, begin by moving closerto the vehicle. However, it may be necessary toreplace the battery in the remote. In this case, thedriver's door can be unlocked with the detacha-ble key blade. See also the article "Detachablekey blade" for additional information.
Keyless Passive Entry *
If the vehicle is equipped with this system, it isonly necessary to have a remote key in your pos-session to operate the central locking system.
Models with Passive Entry have an indentation onthe outside of the handle for locking the vehicleand a pressure sensitive surface on the inside ofthe handle for unlocking.
The tailgate has a rubberized button used onlyfor unlocking.

Locking
All of the doors have to be closed before thevehicle can be locked but the tailgate can beopen.
Lock the doors and tailgate by pressing the pres-sure sensitive indentation on the outside of anyof the door handles. The lock indicator light onthe dashboard will begin to flash to show that thevehicle is locked and the alarm has been armed.
NOTE
Only one of a door handle's lock/unlock sur-faces should be pressed at a time. If bothareas are pressed simultaneously, the desiredlocking/unlocking action may not occur ormay be delayed.
To close windows or the panoramic roof* whenlocking the vehicle, hold the pressure sensitivesurface on the outside of a door handle until thewindow(s)/panoramic roof have closed com-pletely. The windows/panoramic roof will stop ifthe button is released before they are fullyclosed.

Unlocking
Pull a door handle to unlock and open the dooror press the rubberized button under the tailgateopening control. The lock indicator light on thedashboard will go out to show that the vehicle isunlocked and the alarm has been disarmed.
The lock/unlock settings can be changed in thecenter display's Top view:
Go to: SettingsMy CarKeyless Unlockand select All Doors or Single Door.
Automatic relocking
If no door or the tailgate is opened within twominutes after being unlocked, the vehicle willautomatically relock.
Remote door unlock
The vehicle can be unlocked using the Volvo OnCall app.

Locking/unlocking from inside thevehicle
The lock buttons on either of the front doors canbe used to lock or unlock all doors and the tail-gate at the same time. The rear doors can belocked using their respective lock buttons*.
The central locking system
Central locking/unlocking buttons and indicator lightson the front doors
–Press the button to lock the vehicle.
Press to unlock.
Unlocking
•Press the button to unlock all doors andthe tailgate.
•Pull the door opening handle on either of thefront doors. This will unlock the vehicle com-
pletely8 and the door will open.
Locking
–Press the button on either of the frontdoors to lock the vehicle (both front doorsmust be closed).

To unlock a rear door:
–To open one of the rear doors individually,
pull its handle to unlock and open the door9.
Automatic locking
All of the doors/tailgate will lock automaticallywhen the vehicle begins to move.

Antenna locations for the start andlock system
The vehicle is equipped with a keyless10 startand lock system that requires a number of anten-nas located at various points in the vehicle.

WARNING
People with implanted pacemakers should notallow the pacemaker to come closer than9 inches (22 cm) to any of the Passive Entrysystem's antennas. This is to help preventinterference between the pacemaker and thePassive Entry system.

Locking and unlocking confirmation
The turn signals can be used to indicate that thevehicle has been locked/unlocked with theremote key. These settings can also be changedin the center display's Top view by going to:
SettingsMy CarLockingLocking andUnlocking Feedback.
Exterior confirmation
•Locking: the turn signals flash once and the
door mirrors will fold in (retract)12
•Unlocking: the turn signals flash twice and
the door mirrors will fold out12
When the vehicle is locked, confirmation will onlybe given if all doors/tailgate and the hood areclosed.
If the vehicle is locked while only the driver's door
is closed13, all doors/tailgate will lock but confir-mation will only be given when all doors/tailgate/hood are closed.
Interior confirmation
Lock and alarm indicator light on the dashboard
A long flash indicates the vehicle is locked. Whilethe vehicle is locked, the indicator will flashbriefly.
LEDs in the lock buttons on the doors illuminatewhen the doors are locked.
