Seat belt pretensioners
The vehicle's seat belts are equipped with stand-ard and electric pretensioners that can help pullthe seat belts taut in a critical situation or a colli-sion. Some or all of the pretensioners will betriggered in certain types of collisions, depend-ing on the direction and severity of the impact.
Reversible seat belt pretensioners
Reversible seat belt pretensioners is a system inthe front seats that pulls the seat belts slightlytaut prior to a collision. This function helps posi-tion the front seat occupants to help improve theeffects of other safety systems, e.g., the airbagsystem.
Seat belt pretensioners in collisions
The seat belts are equipped with standard pre-tensioners that are triggered according to theseverity of a collision.
Seat belt pretensioners in critical
situations
In addition to the standard pretensioners, theseat belts in the front seats are also equippedwith electric pretensioners.
The pretensioners interact and can be triggeredalong with the City Safety and Rear CollisionWarning systems. In critical situations such assudden braking, evasive maneuvers, etc., the seatbelt can be pulled taut by the pretensioner'selectric motor.
The electric pretensioner positions the occupantin the seat to help reduce the risk of striking theinterior of the passenger compartment andimproves the effect of other safety systems suchas the airbags.
Resetting the electric pretensioners
When a critical situation has passed, the seat beltand the electric pretensioner are reset automati-cally.
If the seat belt should remain taut:
1. Stop the vehicle safely.
2. Unbuckle the seat belt and rebuckle it.
> The seat belt and the electric preten-sioner will be reset.

Door and seat belt reminders
The door and seat belt reminders are intendedto alert all occupants of the vehicle that theirseat belts should be buckled before the vehiclebegins to move or if a door, the hood, tailgate orfuel filler door have not been closed properly.

The instrument panel graphic shows the seatswhere seat belts are not buckled.
The same graphic also indicates if a door, thehood, tailgate or fuel filler door is/are open.
This graphic disappears automatically afterapprox. 30 seconds or if the if the O button onthe steering wheel keypad is pressed.
Seat belt reminder
Seat belt reminder light in ceiling console
The seat belt reminder consists of anaudible signal, an indicator light nearthe rearview mirror and a symbol in theinstrument panel that alert all occu-pants of the vehicle to buckle their seat belts.
The audible signal is speed-dependent and willsound for several seconds.
If the driver's or a passenger's seat belt is notbuckled, this will be indicated in the instrumentpanel.
Child seats are not included in the seat beltreminder system.
Front seats
An audible signal and an indicator light willremind the driver and front seat passenger tobuckle their seat belts.
Rear seats
The rear seat belt reminder has two functions.
•It indicates which seat belts are buckled inthe rear seats. This will also be displayed inan instrument panel graphic.
•It also provides audio and visual reminders ifa rear seat belt is unbuckled while the vehi-cle is in motion. The reminders will disappearwhen the seat belt has been buckled againor can be erased by pressing the O buttonon the steering wheel keypad.
Door/hood/tailgate/fuel filler door
reminder
If a door, the hood, tailgate or fuel filler dooris/are not properly closed, this will be indicated ina graphic in the instrument panel. Stop the vehi-cle safely and close the source of the reminder.
If the vehicle is moving at a speedunder approx.6 mph (10 km/h), theinformation symbol will illuminate in theinstrument panel.
At speeds above approx. 6 mph(10 km/h), the warning symbol will illu-minate in the instrument panel.

Airbag system
As an enhancement to the three-point seat belts,your vehicle is equipped with an airbag system.
WARNING
•If the airbag warning light stays on afterthe engine has started or if it illuminateswhile you are driving, have the vehicleinspected by a trained and qualified Volvoservice technician as soon as possible.
•Never try to repair any component or partof the airbag systems yourself. Any inter-ference in the system could cause mal-function and serious injury. All work onthese systems should be performed by atrained and qualified Volvo service techni-cian.
WARNING
If your vehicle has become flood-damaged inany way (e.g., soaked carpeting/standingwater on the floor of the vehicle), do notattempt to start the vehicle. This may causeairbag deployment which could result in seri-ous injury. Have the vehicle towed to a trainedand qualified Volvo service technician forrepairs.
Before attempting to tow the vehicle:
1.Switch off the ignition for at least10 minutes and disconnect the battery.
2. Follow the instructions for manually over-riding the shiftlock system.
Deployed airbags
WARNING
If any of the airbags have deployed:
•Do not attempt to drive the vehicle. Haveit towed to a qualified repair facility.
•If necessary seek medical attentIon.
Driver/passenger side airbags
The front airbags supplement the three-pointseat belts. For these airbags to provide the pro-tection intended, seat belts must be worn at alltimes.
Driver's and passenger's side airbags
The front airbag system
The front airbag system includes gas generatorssurrounded by the airbags, and deceleration sen-sors that activate the gas generators, causing theairbags to be inflated with nitrogen gas.
As the movement of the seats' occupants com-presses the airbags, some of the gas is expelledat a controlled rate to provide better cushioning.Both seat belt pretensioners also deploy, mini-mizing seat belt slack. The entire process, includ-ing inflation and deflation of the airbags, takesapproximately one fifth of a second.

Passenger's side airbag decal
WARNING
•Children must never be allowed in thefront passenger's seat.
•Occupants in the front passenger's seatmust never sit on the edge of the seat, sitleaning toward the instrument panel orotherwise sit out of position.
•The occupant's back must be as uprightas comfort allows and be against the seatback with the seat belt properly fastened.
•Feet must be on the floor, e.g., not on thedash, seat or out of the window.
WARNING
•No objects or accessory equipment, e.g.dashboard covers, may be placed on,attached to, or installed near the air baghatch (the area above the glove compart-ment) or the area affected by airbagdeployment.
•There should be no loose articles, suchas coffee cups on the floor, seat, or dash-board area.
•Never try to open the airbag cover on thesteering wheel or the passenger's sidedashboard. This should only be done by atrained and qualified Volvo service techni-cian.
•Failure to follow these instructions canresult in injury to the vehicle occupants.

Occupant weight sensor
The Occupant Weight Sensor (OWS) isdesigned to meet the regulatory requirements ofFederal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS)208 and is designed to disable (will not inflate)the passenger's side front airbag under certainconditions.

Disabling the passenger's side front

Volvo recommends that ALL occupants (adultsand children) shorter than 4 feet 7 inches(140 cm) be seated in the back seat of any vehi-cle with a front passenger side airbag and beproperly restrained for their size and weight.
The OWS works with sensors that are part of thefront passenger's seat and seat belt. The sensorsare designed to detect the presence of a properly

seated occupant and determine if the passeng-er's side front airbag should be enabled (mayinflate) or disabled (will not inflate).
The OWS will disable (will not inflate) the pas-senger's side front airbag when:
•the front passenger's seat is unoccupied, orhas small/medium objects in the front seat,
•the system determines that an infant is pres-ent in a rear-facing infant seat that is instal-led according to the manufacturer's instruc-tions,
•the system determines that a small child ispresent in a forward-facing child restraintthat is installed according to the manufactur-er's instructions,
•the system determines that a small child ispresent in a booster seat,
•a front passenger takes his/her weight off ofthe seat for a period of time,
•a child or a small person occupies the frontpassenger's seat.
The OWS uses a PASSENGER AIRBAG OFFindicator lamp which will illuminate and stay on toremind you that the passenger's side front airbagis disabled. The PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indi-cator lamp is located in the overhead console,near the base of the rearview mirror.
NOTE
When the ignition is switched on, the OWSindicator light will illuminate for several sec-onds while the system performs a self-diag-nostic test.
However, if a fault is detected in the system:
•The OWS indicator light will stay on
•The SRS warning light will come on and stayon and a text message will be displayed.
WARNING
If a fault in the system is detected and indi-cated as described, be aware that the pas-senger's side front airbag will not deploy inthe event of a collision. In this case, the SRSsystem and Occupant Weight Sensor shouldbe inspected by a trained and qualified Volvoservice technician as soon as possible.
WARNING
•Never try to open, remove, or repair anycomponents in the OWS system. Thiscould result in system malfunction. Main-tenance or repairs should only be carriedout by an a trained and qualified Volvoservice technician.
•The front passenger's seat should not bemodified in any way. This could reducepressure on the seat cushion, whichmight interfere with the OWS system'sfunction.

Displaying trip statistics
Trip computer statistics can be displayed graphi-cally in the center display.
Open the Driver performanceapp in the app menu to displaytrip statistics.
Each bar in the graph repre-sents a driving distance of
1 mile, 10 miles or 100 miles1
depending on the current scale; bars are addedfrom the right and the bar at the far right showsthe value for the current trip.
Average fuel consumption is calculated from themost recent time at which the current trip odom-eter was reset.
Fuel and electrical current consumption areshown in separate graphs. The electrical currentgraph shows "net" consumption, i.e., consumedcurrent minus regenerated current generated bybraking.
Trip statistic settings
Select Preferences to:
•change the graph's scale
•Reset data after each trip (this occurs if thevehicle remains parked for more than 4hours)
•Reset data for the current trip
The illustration is generic; the layout may vary dependingon the model or due to software updates
Changing the unit of measure
Change the units of measure for driven distanceand fuel consumption in the center display's Topview.

•If you use HomeLink® to open a garagedoor or gate, be sure no one is near thegate or door while it is in motion.
•When programming a garage dooropener, it is advised to park outside of thegarage.
•Do not use HomeLink® with any garagedoor opener that lacks safety stop andreverse features as required by U.S. fed-eral safety standards (this includes anygarage door opener model manufacturedbefore April 1, 1982). A garage door thatcannot detect an object - signaling thedoor to stop and reverse - does not meetcurrent U.S. federal safety standards. Formore information, contact HomeLink at:www.homelink.com.

Programming the HomeLink®
Wireless Control System*
NOTE
Some vehicles may require the ignition to beswitched on or be in the “accessories” posi-tion for programming and/or operation ofHomeLink. It is also recommended that a newbattery be placed in the hand-held transmitterof the device being programmed to Home-Link for quicker training and accurate trans-mission of the radio-frequency signal. TheHomeLink buttons must be reset first. Whenthis has been completed, Homelink is inlearning mode so that you can perform pro-gramming.
To program HomeLink®
1.Press the HomeLink® button to be pro-
grammed. The HomeLink® indicator willbegin flashing yellow once a second. You donot need to continue holding the button.
2.Point the hand-held transmitter toward the
HomeLink® button to be programmed andhold it approx. 6–12 inches (15–30 cm)
away from the HomeLink® button. Do not
obstruct the HomeLink® indicator light.

3. Press and hold the button on the originalremote control that is to be programmed on
HomeLink® and observe the HomeLink®
indicator light. Hold the button until the indi-cator light has changed from flashing yellowonce a second to either flashing green 10times a second or by glowing steadily green.
When the HomeLink® indicator light flashesor glows steadily green, the button on theoriginal remote control can be released.Note: for certain remote controls, theinstructions listed under "Gate operators/Canadian programming" at the end of thisarticle should be used instead of step 3.
4.Press the programmed HomeLink® buttonand check the indicator light.
Indicator light glows steadily green: pro-gramming has been completed. The garagedoor, gate, etc., should now be activatedwhen the programmed button is pressed.
Indicator light flashes 10 times a second:
press the HomeLink® button that is beingprogrammed. Hold it for 2 seconds andrelease it. Repeat the “press/hold/release”sequence a second time, and, depending onthe brand of the garage door opener, repeatthis sequence a third time to complete theprogramming process. Programming shouldnow be completed and the garage door,gate, etc., should now be activated when theprogrammed button is pressed.
If the garage door, etc. still does notreact: continue with steps 6-8 to completeprogramming.
5. Locate the "training" button on the garagedoor opener, etc. The designation and colorof the button may vary, depending on themanufacturer. It is usually located near theantenna attachment on the device.
6.Press the device's "training" button. Whenthis has been done, step 8 must be comple-ted within 30 seconds.
7.Press and hold the HomeLink® button beingprogrammed for 2 seconds and release it.Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence asecond time, and, depending on the brand ofthe garage door opener, repeat thissequence a third time to complete the pro-gramming process. Programming should nowbe completed and the garage door, gate, etc.,should now be activated when the pro-grammed button is pressed.

Gate Operator/Canadian Programming
Canadian radio-frequency laws require transmit-ter signals to “time-out” (or quit) after severalseconds of transmission – which may not be longenough for HomeLink to pick up the signal dur-ing programming. Similar to this Canadian law,some U.S. gate operators are designed to “time-out” in the same manner.
If you live in Canada or you are having difficultiesprogramming a gate operator or garage dooropener by using the “Programming” procedures,replace “Programming HomeLink” step 3with the following:
•Continue to press and hold the HomeLinkbutton while you press and release - everytwo seconds (“cycle”) your hand-held trans-mitter until the HomeLink indicator lightchanges from a slow to a rapidly blinkinglight. Now you may release both the Home-Link and hand-held transmitter buttons.
Proceed with “Programming” step 4 to complete.
Using HomeLink ®
When programming has been completed,
HomeLink® can be used instead of the originalremote controls.
To operate, press and hold the programmed
HomeLink® button until the trained device begins
to operate3 (this may take several seconds). The
indicator light will glow steadily or flash when thebutton has been pressed. Activation will nowoccur for the trained device (i.e., garage dooropener, gate operator, security system, entry doorlock, home/office lighting, etc.).
NOTE
If the ignition is switched off, HomeLink willfunction for 30 minutes after the driver's doorhas been opened.
For convenience, the hand-held transmitter of thedevice may also be used at any time.

Resetting HomeLink ®
buttons
Use the following procedure to reset (erase pro-
gramming) from the three HomeLink® buttons(individual buttons cannot be reset but can be“reprogrammed” as outlined in the following sec-tion):
1.Press and hold HomeLink® buttons 1 and 3for approx. 10 seconds until the indicatorlight begins to flash green.
2. Release both buttons.
>HomeLink® is now in the training (orlearning) mode and can be programmedat any time beginning with “To program
HomeLink®" above.
Reprogramming a single HomeLink ®
button
To reprogram an individual HomeLink® button:
1.Press and hold the desired HomeLink® but-ton. DO NOT release the button.
2. The yellow indicator light will begin to flashafter 20 seconds. Without releasing theHomeLink button, proceed with “To program
HomeLink®" step 1 above.
