Key s
Your car comes with two master keys and a valet key.
The master key fits all the locks on
your car: Ignition
Doors
Hatch
Glove box The valet key works only in the
ignition and the door locks. You can
keep the glove box locked when you
leave your car and the valet key at a
parking facility. You should have received a key
number plate with your set of keys.
You will need this number if you have to get a lost key replaced. Keepthe plate stored in a safe place.
When replacing keys, use only
Acura-approved key blanks.

These keys contain electronic circuits that are activated by the
Immobilizer System. They will not
work to start the engine if the circuits are damaged. Protect the keys from direct
sunlight, high temperature, and
high humidity. Do not drop the keys or set heavy
objects on them.
Keep the keys away from liquids.
If they get wet, dry them immedi-
ately with a soft cloth.
The keys do not contain batteries. Do not try to take them apart. Immobilize
r Syste m
The Immobilizer System protects your car from theft. A properly- coded master or valet key must be
used in the ignition switch for the engine to start. If an improperly-
coded key (or other device) is used,
the engine's fuel system is disabled.
When you turn the ignition switch to ON (II), the Immobilizer System
indicator should come on for a few seconds, then go out. If the indicatorstarts to blink, it means the system
does not recognize the coding of the
key. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), remove the key, reinsert
it, and turn the switch to ON (II)
again.
The system may not recognize your
key's coding if another immobilizer
key or other metal object is near the ignition switch when you insert the
key. To make sure the system recognizes the key code:
Do not keep other immobilizer
keys on the same key ring. Use a plastic or leather key fob,

not metal.
Keep other keys away from your
vehicle's key and the ignition switch while trying to start the

engine.

If the system repeatedly does not
recognize the coding of your key,
contact your Acura dealer.
This indicator will also blink several times when you turn the ignitionswitch from ON (II) to ACCESSORY (I) or LOCK (0).

Do not attempt to alter this system
or add other devices to it. Electrical
problems could result that may make
your car undriveable.
If you have lost your key and you
cannot start the engine, contact your
Acura dealer.

Ignition
Switch
The ignition switch is on the right side of the steering column. It has
four positions:
LOCK (0) ACCESSORY (I)
ON (II)
START (III)

LOC K (0 ) — You caii insert or
remove the key only in this position.
To switch from ACCESSORY to LOCK, you must push the key in
slightly as you turn it. If your car has
an automatic transmission, the shift
lever must also be in Park. The anti- theft lock will lock the steeringcolumn when you remove the key.
If the front wheels are turned, theanti-theft lock may sometimes make
it difficult to turn the key from LOCK to ACCESSORY. Firmly turn
the steering wheel to the left or to the right as you turn the key. ACCESSOR
Y (I ) — In this position,
you can operate the audio system and the cigarette lighter.
O N (II ) — This is the normal key
position when driving. All features and accessories on the car are usable.
Several of the lights on the instru-
ment panel come on as a test when
you turn the ignition switch from
ACCESSORY to ON. STAR
T (III ) — Use this position
only to start the engine. The switch
returns to ON (II) when you let go of
the key.
The engine will not start if the Immobilizer System does not
recognize the key's coding (see page 72).

You will hear a reminder beeper if
you leave the key in the ignition
switch in the LOCK (0) or
ACCESSORY (I) position and open the driver's door. Remove the key to
turn off the beeper.

Removing the key from the

ignition switch while driving

locks the steering. This can

cause you to lose control.

Remove the key from the
ignition switch only when

parked.

Each door has a lock tab above the
inside door handle. Push the tab in to
lock the door and pull it out to unlock.
To lock the passenger's door when getting out of the car, push the lock
tab in and close the door. To lock thedriver's door, pull the door handle
and push the lock tab in. Release the
handle, then close the door. The doors can also be locked and
unlocked from the outside with the
key.
SE model
When you push in the lock tab on the driver's door, that door and the
hatch will lock.LS, GS, GS-R and Type-R models
When you push in the lock tab on the driver's door, both doors and the
hatch will lock. Powe

SE model

The driver's door has a hatch lock switch. The switch locks and unlocks
the hatch. Push the switch down to
lock the hatch and up to unlock the

hatch.

The hatch can also be locked from the outside by using the key indriver's door.

LS, GS, GS-R and Type-R models

Each door has a master door and
hatch lock switch. Either switch
locks and unlocks both doors and the
hatch. Push the switch down to lock
both doors and the hatch and up to
unlock them.
To lock the passenger's door when getting out of the car, push the lock
tab in and close the door. To lock the driver's door, pull the outside door
handle and push the lock tab in or
push the master switch down. Release the handle, then close the
door.
Both doors and the hatch can be
locked from the outside by using the
key in either door or the hatch.
To unlock only the driver's door from the outside, insert the key in
the driver's door lock, turn the keyand release it. If you turn the key
and hold it, both doors and the hatch
will unlock. Both doors and the hatch will unlock when you unlock
the passenger's door or the hatch
with the key. Hatc

Use the master key to lock and
unlock the hatch. The valet key does
not work in this lock.
To lock the hatch, insert the master
key in the hatch lock, turn the keycounterclockwise.
To unlock the hatch, turn it
clockwise and release it.LS, GS, GS-R and Type-R models
You can lock and unlock the front doors by using the key in the hatch.

To open the hatch, slide the lever behind the hatch's back edge until it
releases the hatch and lift the hatch.
To close the hatch, push down on the hatch's back edge. See page 132 for cargo loading and
weight limit information. Keep the hatch closed at all times while driving to avoid damaging the hatch
and to prevent exhaust gas from
getting into the interior. See Carbo n
Monoxid e Hazar d on page 49.
If an unlocked hatch does not open,
turn the master key clockwise past
the unlock position. Open the hatch as you hold the key in that position.
If you need to use this procedure to open the hatch, your car may be
developing a problem. Have the
vehicle checked by your Acura
dealer.

Open the glove box by pulling the
bottom of the handle. Close it with a
firm push. Lock or unlock the glove
box with the master key.
LS, GS, GS-R and Type-R models

The glove box light comes on only when the instrument panel lights are
on.

An open glove box can cause
serious injury to your passengerin a crash, even if the
passenger is wearing the seat

belt.

Always keep the glove box closed while driving.

information and warnings about how to
properly position seats and seat-backs.
Make all seat adjustments before
you start driving.
To adjust the seat forward andbackward, pull up on the lever under
the seat cushion's front edge. Move
the seat to the desired position and
release the lever. Try to move theseat to make sure it is locked in

position.
To change the angle of the seat-back,
pull up on the lever on the outside of
the seat bottom. Move the seat-back
to the desired position and release
the lever. Let the seat-back latch in
the new position.

The back of the rear seat folds down to give you more cargo space. Eachside folds down separately. With only
half the seat folded, you can still carry a passenger in the back seat.
To unlatch either side of the seat- back, pull up on the release tab.Move the seat belt out of the way
and fold the seat-back down. To lock the seat-back upright, push
the seat-back firmly against its latch.
Tug on the seat-back to make sure it
is latched.

Make sure all items in the cargo area
are secured. Loose items can fly
forward and cause injury if you have
to brake hard. See Carrying Cargo
on page 132. Carg

The cargo area cover may be removed to give you more cargo
height. Place your hands, palms up,
under the cover near the outsideedges. Lift it straight up.
To install the cover, line up the mounting rods with the slots, then
push down on the cover until it clips
into place. Make sure it is securely
latched so it will not come loose
while you are driving.
