Controls
The power tailgate fail-safe mode detects if th ere is an extra load on the tailgate (for
example, it is covered with snow). If an extra load is detected, the tailgate opens
completely then lowers to the closed position.
■Power Tailgate Fail-Safe Mode1Power Tailgate Fail-Safe Mode
If you try to manually close the power tailgate
immediately after it fully opens, the power tailgate
fail-safe mode may activate.
Once the power tailgate fa il-safe mode activates,
wait until the power tailgate fully closes. Keep away
from the power tailgate when it is in motion.
If the power tailgate fail -safe mode constantly
activates, consult a dealer.

Security System
Immobilizer System
The immobilizer system prevents a key that has not been pre-registered from
starting the engine. Each key contains electronic transmitters that use electronic
signals to verify the key.
Pay attention to the following when inserti ng the key into the ignition switch or
selecting the ACCESSORY mode with an ENGINE START/STOP button
*:
• Do not allow objects that emit strong radio waves near the ignition switch.
• Make sure the key is not covered by or touching a metal object.
• Do not bring a key from another vehicle’s immobilizer system near the ignition
switch.
Security System Alarm
The security system alarm activates when the doors, tailgate, or hood are opened
without the key, remote transmitt er or keyless access remote*.
■When the security system alarm activates
The horn sounds intermittently and all of the exterior lights flash.
■To deactivate the security system alarm
Unlock the vehicle using the key, remo te transmitter or keyless access system*. The
system, along with the horn and flashing lights, is deactivated.
1 Immobilizer System
NOTICELeaving the ignition key in the vehicle can result in
theft or accidental movement of the vehicle.
Always take the ignition key with you whenever you
leave the vehicle unattended.
Do not alter the system or add other devices to it.
Doing so may damage the system and make your
vehicle inoperable.
1 Security System Alarm
The security alarm continues for a maximum of two
minutes until the security system deactivates.

■Setting the security system alarm
The security system alarm automatically sets when the following conditions have
been met:
• The ignition switch is in LOCK
0, and the key has been removed from the
ignition switch.*1
• All doors and the tailgate are locked with the key, remote transmitter, or keyless
access system*.
■When the security system alarm sets
The security system alarm indicator in the instrument panel blinks. When the
blinking interval changes after about 15 seconds, the security system is set.
■To cancel the security system alarm
The security system is canc eled when the vehicle is unlocked using the key, remote
transmitter, keyless access system
*, or the ignition swit ch is turned to ON w*1. The
security system alarm indicato r goes off at the same time.
*1: Models with the keyless access system have an ENGINE START/STOP button
instead of an ig nition switch.
1Security System Alarm
Do not set the security sy stem alarm when someone
is in the vehicle or a window is open. The system can
accidentally activate when:
•Unlocking the door with the lock tab or the master
door lock switch.
•Opening the tailgate with the power tailgate
button in the instrument panel.
If the battery goes dead after you have set the
security system alarm, the security alarm may go off
once the battery is recharged or replaced.
If this occurs, deactivate the security system alarm by
unlocking a door using the key, remote transmitter or
keyless access system
*.
Do not attempt to alter this system or add another
device to it.

■The PANIC button on the remote
transmitter
If you press the PANIC button for
approximately one second, the following will
occur for about 30 seconds:
• The horn sounds.
• Some exterior lights flash.
■Canceling panic mode
Press any button on the remo te transmitter, or turn the ignition switch to ON
w*1.

Opening/Closing the Power Windows
The power windows can be opened and closed when the ignition switch is in ON
w*1, using the switches on the doors. The driver side switches can be used to open
and close all of the windows.
The power window lock button on the driver side must be switched off (not pushed
in, indicator off) to open and close th e windows from anywhere other than the
driver’s seat.
When the power window lock button is pushed in, the indicator comes on and you
can only operate the driver’s window. Turn the power window lock button on when
children are in the vehicle.
■Automatic operation
To open: Push the switch down firmly.
To close: Pull the switch up firmly.
The window opens or closes completely. To
stop the window at any time, push or pull the
switch briefly.
■Manual operation
To open: Push the switch down lightly.
To close: Pull the switch up lightly.
Release the switch when the window reaches
the desired position.
*1: Models with the keyless access system have an ENGINE START/STOP button
instead of an ig nition switch.
■Opening/Closing Windows with Auto-Open/Close Function
1Opening/Closing the Power Windows
The power windows can be operated for up to 10
minutes after you turn the ignition switch off
*1.
Opening either front door cancels this function.
Auto Reverse
If a power window senses resistance when closing
automatically, it will stop closing and reverse
direction.
The driver’s window auto reverse function is disabled
when you continuously pull up the switch.
The auto reverse function stops sensing when the
window is almost closed to ensure that it fully closes.
3WARNING
Closing a power window on someone’s
hands or fingers can cause serious injury.
Make sure your passengers are away from
the windows before closing them.

To open: Push the switch down.
To close: Pull the switch up.
Release the switch when the window reaches
the desired position.
To open: Press the UNLOCK button twice
within 20 seconds and hold it down for the
second time. If the windows stop midway,
repeat the procedure.
■Opening/Closing Windows without Auto-Open/Close Function

The sunshades will not stop opening and will
continue moving to the full open position. You
cannot operate the power windows with the remote
transmitter when the key is in the ignition switch.

To open: Unlock the driver’s door with the
key. Within 20 seconds of returning the key to
the central position, turn the key in the unlock
direction and hold it there.
To close: Lock the driver’s door with the
key.Within 20 seconds of returning the key to
the central position, turn the key in the lock
direction and hold it there.
Release the key to stop the windows,
panoramic glass roof, and sunshades at the
desired position. If you want further
adjustment, repeat the same operation.
The sunshades will not stop opening and will
continue moving to the full open position.

Opening and Closing the Panoramic Glass Roof
You can only operate the panoramic glass roof and the sunshades switches when
the ignition switch is in ON
w*1. Use the switch in the front of the ceiling to open
and close the panoramic glass roof and the sunshades.
■Automatic operation
To open: Pull the switch back firmly, then release.
The panoramic glass roof or sunshades will
automatically open all the way. To stop the
panoramic glass roof or sunshades midway,
push the switch briefly.
■Manual operation
To open: Pull the switch back, and hold it
until the desired position is reached.
To close: Push the switch forward, and hold it
until the desired position is reached.
■Tilting the panoramic glass roof up
To tilt: Push on the center of the panoramic
glass roof switch. uThe sunshades will open automatically and
the panoramic glass roof will start to tilt up.
To close: Push the switch fo rward firmly, then
release.
*1: Models with the keyless access system have an ENGINE START/STOP button
instead of an ignition switch.

NOTICEOpening the panoramic glas s roof in below freezing
temperature or when it is covered with snow or ice can
damage the panoramic glas s roof panel or motor.
The power panoramic glass roof and sunshades can
be operated for up to 10 minutes after you turn the
ignition switch off

Opening either front door cancels this function.
The panoramic glass roof can operate only when the
sunshades are fully open.
The sunshades can be opened or closed to adjust the
amount of light that enters the cabin.
The sunshades can operate only when the panoramic
glass roof is fully closed.
The front and rear sunshades cannot be operated
individually.
3WARNING
Opening or closing the panoramic glass
roof or sunshades on someone’s hands or
fingers can cause serious injury.
Make sure all hands and fingers are clear of
the panoramic glass roof and sunshades
before opening or closing it.

Operating the Switches Around the Steering Wheel

You cannot take the key out unless the shift lever is
in
(P.
If you open the driver’s door when the key is in LOCK
(0 or ACCESSORY (q, a warning buzzer will sound
to remind you to take the key out.
When this happens, the following messages appear
on the multi-information display:
•In LOCK (0: REMOVE KEY.•In ACCESSORY (q: REMOVE KEY
The buzzer will stop when you take the key out.
If the key won’t turn from LOCK
(0 to ACCESSORY (q, turn the key while moving the steering wheel left
and right. The steering wheel will unlock, allowing
the key to turn.
Models without keyless access remote
0 LOCK: Insert and remove the key in this
position.
q ACCESSORY: Operate the audio system and
other accessories in this position.
w ON: This is the position when driving.
e START: This position is for starting the engine.
The switch returns to ON w when you let go of
the key.

You can start the engine when the keyless access
remote is inside the vehicle.
The engine may also run if the keyless access remote
is close to the door or window , even if it is outside the
vehicle.
If you open the driver’s door in the ACCESSORY, a
warning buzzer will sound to remind you to set the
power mode to VEHICLE OFF.
If you cannot start the engine with the keyless access
remote inside the vehicle, insert the remote into the
