Indicator lights
Description
The indicato r lights in the inst rument cluste r
b link or turn on. They ind icate funct ions or mal ­
f u nctions.
Messages may appear with some indicator l ights .
A wa rni ng sig nal w ill so und at the same t ime.
The indicato r lights a nd messages in the instr u­
men t cluster display can be covered by o ther d is ­
p lays. To show t hem again, select the second tab
with the m ultifunction steering wheel
¢ page 12 .
If th ere are seve ral malfunctions, you can display
them one at a time using the thumbwheel.
Some ind icator lights in the disp lay can display in
several colors .

If the. or u indicator light turns on, check
the message in the instrument cluster.
Overview
Some ind icator lights turn on briefly as a function
check whe n you switch the ig nition on . These sys­
tems are marked with a
./ i n t he following tables .
I f o ne of these indicato r lights does not turn on,
the re is a ma lf un ction in t hat system.
Your ve hicle has either a monochrome display or
a mu lticolored display, depend ing o n ve hicle
eq uipment. Some indicato r lights appear wh ite
on a monochrome d isp lay.

cate the priority of these indicator lights.

ing tone.

malfunction in the generator or the vehicle elec­
tr ica l system .
• Electrical system: malfunction! Safely stop

(•) Electrical system: malfunction! Restart not
possible. Please contact Service
The vehicle battery was disconnected from the
veh icle elect rical system and will no longer
charge . Drive to an authorized Aud i dealer or au­

Do not stop the engine, or you will not be able to
start it aga in . If you can no longer start the en­
g in e, see an authorized Aud i dealer or autho rized
Aud i Service Facility for assistanc e.

- I f the engine oil level is correct and the indica­
tor light still turns on, turn the engine off and

T he oil pressure warn ing is not an oil leve l in ­
dicator. Always check the oil leve l regularly.

Due to a system ma lf u nction, your vehicle's
ground clearance is very low at the front or rear
axle* (in veh icles with all -whee l steering) . Be­
cause of this, the wheels no longer have enough
clearance to steer correctly.

Service Facility for assistance.

tinue driving slowly. Speed limited to max.

If the D.1 indicato r light b links wh ile driving, the
E SC or ASR (Anti-S lip Reg ulation) is actively reg u­
lating.
If the
Ii) i ndicato r light turns on, the system has
sw itched the ESC off. In this case, you can switch
the ign ition off and t hen o n to switch the ESC on
aga in. The indica tor ligh t turns off when the sys ­
tem is func tioning fully .

II indicato r light turns on, ESC was

Stabilization control (ESC/ ABS): malfun ction!

If the Ii) indicator light and the [1] (USA mod­
e ls)l liJ (Canada models) ABS indicator light turn
on and the message appears, there is a malfunc ­
tion in the ABS or the elect ronic d ifferential lock .
This a lso ca uses the ESC to malfunct ion. The
b rakes still f unct ion w it h t heir no rma l power , but
ABS is no t active.

pro tects the engine from ove rheat ing.
The eng ine speed limitat ion deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature

I f t he engine speed lim itation was act ivated by
an eng ine contro l m alfu nction, the

light also turns on. Make su re the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam ­

mediately to have the malfunction corrected.

F ue l has entered the engine oi l as a resu lt of fre­
q uent short dr ives. Avoid high engine speeds, full
acceleration and heavy engine loads. Dr ive to an
author ized Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service

Drive unt il the engine is warm so that the fue l in

when doing this.

bulb. Replace the bulb immediately .

There is a malfunction in the head lights or the
lig ht switch. Drive to an autho rized A udi dealer or
author ized Audi Service Facility immed iate ly to
have the ma lfunction corrected.
A WARNING
- light bu lbs are under pressure and can ex­
plode when bulbs are replaced, which in­
c reases the risk of injury.
- With HID headlights (xenon headlights), the high-voltage componen t must be handled
correctly. Othe rw ise, there is a risk of fata l
lnJUry.

The light/rain sensor is malfunctioning.
The low beams remain switched on at all times
for safety reasons when the light switch is in the
AUTO position. However, yo u can cont inue to
turn the lig hts on and
off using the light switch.
You can sti ll contro l all functions that are inde ­
pendent of t he rain senso r thr ough the wind­
shield wipe r leve r.

malfunction corrected .
