CHECKS
BONNET
P u s h t h e e x t e r i o r c o n t r o l B to the left
and raise the bonnet.
Unclip the strut C from its housing.
Fix the strut in the notch to hold the
bonnet open.
Closing
Take the strut out of the support
notch.
Clip the strut in its housing.
Lower the bonnet and release it at
the end of its travel.
P u l l o n t h e b o n n e t t o c h e c k t h a t i t i s
secured correctly.
Opening
Open the front left door.
P u l l t h e i n t e r i o r c o n t r o l A , located at
the bottom of the door frame. The location of the interior control
prevents opening of the bonnet
while the front left door is closed.
P r o t e c t s t h e c o m p o n e n t s o f t h e e n g i n e
and provides access for checking levels.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a n H D I e n -
gine, the fuel circuit must be reprimed if
you run out of fuel.
This system consists of a repriming
pump, a transparent pipe and a degas
screw under the bonnet.
HDi 90 and HDi 110 FAP engines
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e l i -
tres of diesel.
Open the bonnet.
Unclip the cover to gain access to
the repriming pump.
Squeeze and release the repriming
pump until fuel appears in the trans-
parent pipe with the green connector.
Operate the starter until the engine
starts.
P u t t h e c o v e r b a c k i n p o s i t i o n a n d
clip it in place.
Close the bonnet.
If the engine does not start at the
fi r s t a t t e m p t , d o n o t t r y a g a i n .
Operate the repriming pump again,
then the starter.

CHECKING LEVELS Brake fluid level
Oil level The reading will only be correct
if the vehicle is on level ground
and the engine has been off for
more than 15 minutes.
The check is carried out either when the
ignition is switched on using the oil level
indicator on the instrument panel, or us-
ing the dipstick.
Between two oil changes, the consump-
tion should not exceed 0.5 litre per
600 miles (1,000 km). T h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l s h o u l d b e
close to the "MAX" mark. If it is
not, check the brake pad wear.
Draining the circuit
Refer to the Maintenance and Warranty
Guide for details of the interval for this
operation.
Coolant level The coolant level should be
close to the "MAX" mark but
should never exceed it.
When the engine is warm, the
temperature of the coolant is regulated
by the fan. This can operate with the igni-
tion off.
O n v e h i c l e s w h i c h a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , t h e f a n m a y
operate after the vehicle has been
s w i t c h e d o f f , e v e n i f t h e e n g i n e i s
cold.
In addition, as the cooling system is
pressurised, wait at least one hour after
switching off the engine before carrying
out any work. F l u i d s p e c i fi c a t i o n
For optimum cleaning and to avoid
f r e e z i n g , t h i s fl u i d m u s t n o t b e t o p p e d
up or replaced with water.
Draining the engine
Refer to the Maintenance and Warranty
Guide for details of the interval for this
operation.
In order to maintain the reliability of the
engine and emission control system,
the use of additives in the engine oil is
prohibited.
O i l s p e c i fi c a t i o n
The oil must correspond to your engine
and conform to the manufacturer's recom-
mendations. F l u i d s p e c i fi c a t i o n

The coolant must conform to the manu-
facturer's recommendations.
Draining the circuit
The coolant does not have to be
changed.
Screenwash fluid level
Top up the level when neces-
sary.
Check all of these levels regularly and
top them up if necessary, unless other-
wise indicated.
I f a l e v e l d r o p s s i g n i fi c a n t l y , h a v e t h e
corresponding circuit checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
To avoid any risk of scalding, unscrew
the cap by two turns to allow the pres-
sure to drop. When the pressure has
dropped, remove the cap and top up
the level.

When carrying out work on the battery,

taken before disconnecting the battery
and following its reconnection.
Air filter and passenger

the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace

In order to optimise the operation
of units as important as the braking
system, CITROËN selects and of-
f e r s v e r y s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s .
To avoid damaging the electrical
units, the use of a high pressure
washer in the engine compartment
is strictly prohibited .
Brake disc wear status
Brake pads Handbrake Brake wear depends on the
style of driving, particularly in
the case of vehicles used in
town, over short distances. It
may be necessary to have the
condition of the brakes checked, even
between vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a
d r o p i n t h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l i n d i c a t e s
that the brake pads are worn. For information relating to
checking the brake disc wear
status, contact a CITROËN
dealer.
If the handbrake travel is too
long or if a loss of effective-
ness of this system is no-
ticed, the handbrake must be
adjusted, even between two
services.
This system must be checked by a
CITROËN dealer.
Manual gearbox
The gearbox does not re-
quire any maintenance (no oil
change).

Fixing the steel or "space-
saving" type spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a l l o y
wheels, it is normal to notice, when
t i g h t e n i n g t h e b o l t s o n fi t t i n g , t h a t t h e
washers do not come into contact
with the steel or "space-saving" type
s p a r e w h e e l . T h e w h e e l i s s e c u r e d
b y t h e c o n i c a l c o n t a c t o f e a c h b o l t .
Access to the spare wheel
The spare wheel is installed
under the b o o t fl o o r .
According to country, the spare wheel
may be steel or of the "space saving"
t y p e .
To gain access to it, refer to the paragraph
"Access to the tools" on the previous
p a g e . Taking out the wheel
Unscrew the yellow central bolt, and

Raise the spare wheel towards you

Parking the vehicle
Immobilise the vehicle where it

Apply the handbrake, switch off the
i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t g e a r t o
l o c k t h e w h e e l s .
If necessary, place a chock under
the wheel diagonally opposite the
w h e e l t o b e c h a n g e d .
It is imperative that you ensure that
the occupants get out of the vehicle
a n d w a i t w h e r e t h e y a r e s a f e .
Never go underneath a vehicle
raised using a jack; use an axle
s t a n d .
Removing the wheel
List of operations
Remove the chromed bolt cover from
each of the bolts using the tool 3 .
Fit the anti-theft socket 5 on the
wheelbrace 1 to unlock the anti-theft
b o l t .
Unlock the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 o n l y .
Place the jack 2 in contact with one
of the two front A or rear B locations
provided on the underframe, which-
ever is closest to the wheel to be
c h a n g e d .
Extend the jack 2 until its base plate
i s i n c o n t a c t w i t h t h e g r o u n d . E n s u r e
that the centreline of the jack base
plate is directly below the location A
or B u s e d .
Raise the vehicle until there is
s u f fi c i e n t s p a c e b e t w e e n t h e w h e e l
and the ground to admit the spare
( n o t p u n c t u r e d ) w h e e l e a s i l y .
Remove the bolts and store them in
a c l e a n p l a c e .
R e m o v e t h e w h e e l .
