On-Vehicle Inspection and ServiceEES0010R
Make sure the mounting conditions (looseness, backlash) of each component and component status (wear,
damage) are within specifications. Refer to FSU-21, "
Ball Joint" .
Removal and InstallationEES0010S
REMOVAL
1. Remove wheel and tire from vehicle using power tool.
2. Without disconnecting the hydraulic lines, remove brake caliper using power tool. Reposition it aside with
wire. Refer to BR-22, "
Removal and Installation of Brake Caliper and Disc Rotor" .
CAUTION:
It is not necessary to remove bolts on torque member and brake hose except for disassembly or
replacement of caliper assembly. In this case, hang cylinder body with a wire so that the brake
hose in not under tension.
NOTE:
Avoid depressing brake pedal while brake caliper is removed.
3. Put alignment marks on disc rotor and wheel hub and bearing
assembly, then remove disc rotor.
4. Remove ABS sensor from steering knuckle. Refer to BRC-64, "
Removal and Installation" .
CAUTION:
Do not pull on ABS sensor harness.
5. Remove cotter pin, then remove lock nut from drive shaft using power tool.
6. Remove steering outer socket cotter pin at steering knuckle, then loosen mounting nut using power tool.

7. Disconnect steering outer socket from steering knuckle using
Tool. Be careful not to damage ball joint boot.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to threads and to prevent Tool from
coming off suddenly, temporarily install mounting nut
loosely.
8. Remove drive shaft, if equipped. Refer to FAX-7, "
Removal and Installation" .
9. Remove wheel hub and bearing assembly bolts using power tool.
10. Remove splash guard and wheel hub and bearing assembly from steering knuckle.
11. Support lower link using a suitable jack.
12. Remove cotter pin and nut from upper link ball joint.
13. Separate upper link ball joint from steering knuckle using Tool.
14. Remove pinch bolt from steering knuckle using power tool. Then
remove steering knuckle from lower link ball joint.
15. Remove steering knuckle from vehicle.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Check for deformity, cracks and damage on each part, replace if necessary.
Perform ball joint inspection. Refer to FSU-15, "Inspection" . Tool number : HT72520000 (J-25730-A)

WAR NIN G:
Never get under the vehicle while it is supported only by the jack. Always use safety stands to
support the frame when you have to get under the vehicle.
Place wheel chocks at both front and back of the wheels on the ground.
CAUTION:
All applicable State or Provincial (in Canada) laws and local laws regarding the towing operation
must be obeyed.
It is necessary to use proper towing equipment to avoid possible damage during towing opera-
tion. Towing is in accordance with Towing Procedure Manual at dealer.
Always attach safety chains before towing.
When towing, make sure that the transmission, steering system and powertrain are in good order.
If any unit is damaged, dollies must be used.
Never tow an automatic transmission model from the rear
(i.e., backward) with four wheels on the ground as this may
cause serious and expensive damage to the transmission.
2WD MODELS
NISSAN does not recommend towing automatic transmission
equipped vehicles with the drive wheels on the ground.
CAUTION:
When towing with the front wheels on the ground: Turn the
ignition key to the OFF position and move the transmission
selector lever to N (neutral) position, turn the ignition key to
OFF position and secure the steering wheel in a straight
ahead position with a rope or similar device. Never place
the ignition key in the LOCK position. This will result in
damage to the steering lock mechanism.
Observe the following restricted towing speeds and distances.
WAIA0030E
Speed : Below 95 km/h (60 MPH)
Distance : Less than 800 km (500 miles)

UNDER THE HOOD AND VEHICLE
The maintenance items listed here should be checked periodically (e.g. each time you check the engine oil or refuel).BrakesCheck that the brake does not pull the vehicle to one side when applied. —
Brake pedal and
boosterCheck the pedal for smooth operation and make sure it has the proper distance
under it when depressed fully. Check the brake booster function. Keep the floor
mats away from the pedal.BR-6, "
Inspection and
Adjustment", BR-17,
"On-Vehicle Service"
Parking brakeCheck that the parking brake control has the proper travel and make sure that
the vehicle is held securely on a fairly steep hill when only the parking brake is
applied.PB-3, "On-Vehicle Ser-
vice"
Automatic transmis-
sion “Park” mecha-
nismOn a fairly steep hill check that the vehicle is held securely with the selector
lever in the P position without applying the brakes. — ItemReference page
ItemReference page
Windshield washer
fluidCheck that there is adequate fluid in the tank.
—
Engine coolant levelCheck the coolant level when the engine is cold.MA-12
Radiator and hosesCheck the front of the radiator and clean off any dirt, insects, leaves, etc., that
may have accumulated. Make sure the hoses have no cracks, deformation,
deterioration or loose connections.—
Brake fluid levelMake sure that the brake fluid level is between the “MAX” and “MIN” lines on the
reservoirsMA-27
BatteryCheck the fluid level in each cell. It should be between the “MAX” and “MIN”
lines. Vehicles operated in high temperatures or under severe conditions require
frequent checks of the battery fluid level.—
Engine drive beltMake sure that no belt is frayed, worn, cracked or oily.MA-12
Engine oil levelCheck the level on the dipstick after parking the vehicle on a level spot and turn-
ing off the engine.MA-16
Power steering fluid
level and linesCheck the level on the reservoir with the engine off. Check the lines for improper
attachment, leaks, cracks, etc.MA-29
Automatic transmis-
sion fluid levelCheck the level on the dipstick after putting the selector lever in “P” with the
engine idling.MA-21
Exhaust systemMake sure there are no loose supports, cracks or holes. If the sound of the
exhaust seems unusual or there is a smell of exhaust fumes, immediately locate
the trouble and correct it.MA-21
UnderbodyThe underbody is frequently exposed to corrosive substances such as those
used on icy roads or to control dust. It is very important to remove these sub-
stances, otherwise rust will form on the floor pan, frame, fuel lines and around
the exhaust system. At the end of winter, the underbody should be thoroughly
flushed with plain water, being careful to clean those areas where mud and dirt
can easily accumulate.—
Fluid leaksCheck under the vehicle for fuel, oil, water or other fluid leaks after the vehicle
has been parked for a while. Water dripping from the air conditioner after use is
normal. If you should notice any leaks or gasoline fumes are evident, check for
the cause and correct it immediately.—
