T SWITCH IGNITION SWITCH Replacement 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the column covers. 3. Remove the screw and the ignition switch. 4. Install in the reverse order of removal. SWITCH T COMBINATION SWITCH Removal 1 Installation 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. - 2. Remove as shown in the figure. 3. Install in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the steering wheel, reset the clock spring connec- tor. COLUMN COVER TURN CLOCKWIS RETURN 2.75 TURNS - STEERING WHEEL / AIR BAG MODULE Clock spring connector adjustment 1. Set the front wheels straight ahead. 2. Turn the clock spring connector clockwise until it stops. Caution Do not force the front wheels straight ahead. 3. Return the connector 2.75 turns. 4. Align the marks on the clock spring connector and the outer housing. Gartner Banana

Disconnect the water temperature sensor connector. 2. Connect the red lead of the SST to terminal A of the con- nector and the black lead to ground. 3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. 4. Set the SST to the resistance values shown in the figure. To get an accurate reading, wait 2 minutes after setting each value. 5. Verify that the water temperature gauge indicates the correct values. The allowable indication error is twice the width of the needle. For inspection of gauges Gauge display I Action Correct Incorrect I ( ) ... Connect the red lead of the SST to terminal 2L of the instrument cluster and the black lead to ground. 4. Set the SST to the resistance values shown in the figure. To get an accurate reading, wait 2 minutes after setting each value. 5. Verify that the water temperature gauge indicates the correct values. Connect the red lead of the SST to the A (Y) terminal wire and the black lead to ground. 3. Turn the ignition to ON. 49 0839 285 Checker, fuel and thermometer 4. T INSTRUMENT CLUSTER Symptom: Oil pressure gauge does not operate. 05UOTX-468 Preparation SST I 49 0839 285 For inspection of Checker, fuel gauges and thermometer Step 1 1. Disconnect the connector from the oil pressure sensor. 2. Connect the red lead of the SST to the A (YIR) terminal wire and the black lead to ground. 3. Turn the ignition switch ON. 4. Set the SST to the resistance values shown in the figure. To get an accurate reading, wait 2 minutes after setting each value. 5. Verify that the gauge indicates the correct values. The al- lowable indication error is twice the width of the needle. I Incorrect I GO to step 2 Gauge display Correct Step 2 1. Remove the instrument cluster. (Refer to page T-29.) 2. Using a speedometer tester, check the speedometer for allowable indication error, and check the operation of the odometer. Replace if necessary. 2. Check the speedometer for fluctuation and/or abnormal noise. If there is fluctuation or if the speedometer does not move, remove and inspect the speedometer cable. If it is in good condition, replace the speedometer as- sembly. TACHOMETER lnspection 1. Connect a test tachometer to the engine, and start the engine. 2. Check the tachometer for allowable indication error. Re- place if necessary. lnspection 1. Remove the instrument cluster. (Refer to page T-29.) 2. Apply battery positive voltage to terminal 2K and ground to terminal 2J. 3.
