The restraint system is faulty.

The airbags or beltt ensioners may either be triggere dunintentionally or, in the
event of an accident, may not be triggered.

The emission limi tvalues may be exceede dand the engine may be running in
emergency mode.
X Consult aqualified specialist worksho pimmediately.
Vehicles with adiesel engine: the fuel tank has been run dry (Y page169).
X Start the engine three to four times after refuelling.
If the yellow engine diagnostics warning lamp goes out, emergency running
mode is cancelled. The vehicl eneed not be checked. 8

The yellow reserve fuel warning lamp is on while the engine is running.
The fuel leve lhas dropped into the reserve range.
Operation of the auxiliary heating is deactivated if the fuel leve ldrops into the
reserve range.

The red coolant warning lamp lights up while the engine is running and the
coolant temperature gauge is at the start of the scale.
The temperature sensor for the coolant temperature gauge is faulty.
The coolant temperature is no longer being monitored .There is arisk of engine
damage if the coolant temperature is too high.
X Stop the vehicl eimmediately, paying attention to road and traffic conditions,
and switch off the engine. Do not continue driving under any circumstances.
X Safeguard the vehicl eagainst rolling away( Ypage1 72).

The red coolant warning lamp comes on while the engine is running.
The coolant leve listoo low.
If the coolant leve liscorrect, the airflow to the engine radiator may be blocked or
the electric engine radiator fan may be malfunctioning.
The coolant is too hot and the engine is no longer being coole dsufficiently.
X Observe the additiona ldisplay messages in the multifunction display.
X Stop the vehicl eimmediately, paying attention to road and traffic conditions,
and switch off the engine.
X Safeguard the vehicl eagainst rolling away( Ypage1 72).
X Leave the vehicl eand keep asafe distance from the vehicl euntil the engine has
coole ddown.
X Check the coolant leve land top up the coolant, observing the warning notes
(Y page3 24).
X If you have to top up the coolant frequently, have the engine cooling system
checked.
X Make sure that the air supply to the engine radiator is not blocked ,e.g. by frozen
slush.
X Do not start the engine again until the coolant temperature is below 120 †. The
engine may otherwise be damaged.
X Drive to the neares tqualified specialist workshop.
X Avoid heavy loads on the engine as you do so, e.g. driving in mountainous terrain
and stop-start traffic. ?

Never drive with an overheated engine. Driving when youre ngine is overheated
can caus esome fluids which may have leaked into the engine compartment to
catch fire.
In addition, steam from an overheated engine can caus eserious burns, which can
occur just by opening the bonnet.
There is arisk of injury.
X Observe the additiona ldisplay messages in the multifunction display.
X Stop the vehicl eimmediately, paying attention to road and traffic conditions,
and switch off the engine.
X Safeguard the vehicl eagainst rolling away( Ypage1 72).
X Leave the vehicl eand keep asafe distance from the vehicl euntil the engine has
coole ddown.

Operating the integrated information systems and communications equipment in the vehicle
whil edriving willd istract you from traffic con-
ditions. You could then lose control of the
vehicle .There is arisk of an accident.
Only operate these devices if road traffic con-
ditions permit. If you are unsure aboutt he
surrounding conditions, pullo ver toasafe
locatio nand make entries only whilet he vehi-
cle is stationary.
You must observe the legalr equirements for the
country in which you are currently driving when operating the multimedia system.
The multimedia system calculates the route to
the destination withou ttaking the following into
account, for example:
R traffic lights
R stop and give way signs
R parking or stopping restrictions
R road narrowing
R other road and traffic rulesa nd regulations
The multimedia system may give incorrect nav-
igation recommendations if the actual street/
traffic situation does not correspond with the
digital map's data.
For example:
R ad iverted route
R the road layout or the direction of aone-way
street has been changed
For this reason, you must alwayso bserve road
and traffic rulesa nd regulations during your
journey. Roada nd traffic rulesa nd regulations
alwaysh ave priority over multimedia system
driving recommendations. Function restrictions
For safety reasons, some functions are restric-
ted or unavailable whilet he vehicle is in motion.
You willn otice this, for example, because either
you willn ot be abletos elect certain menu items

General notes !
Do not use the space in front of the display
for storage. Objects placed here could dam-
age the display or impair its function. Avoid
any direct contact with the display surface.
Pressure on the display surface may resul tin
impairments to the display,w hich could be
irreversible.
Wearing polarised sunglasses may impair your
ability to read the display.
The display has an automatic temperature-con- trolled switch-off feature .The brightness is
automaticall yreduced if the temperature is too
high. If necessary ,the display may temporarily
switch off completely.
Cleaning instructions !
Do not touch the display.T
he display has a
very sensitive high-gloss surface; there is a
risk of scratching. If you have to clean the
screen, however, use amild cleaning agent
and asoft, lint-free cloth.
The display must be switched off and have
cooled down before you start cleaning. Do not
apply pressure to the display surface when
cleaning it, as this could cause irreversible dam- age to the display.
