Loading guidelines

WARNING
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the boot
lid is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if the vehicle is in motion. There is arisk
of poisoning.
Always switch off the engine before opening
the boot lid. Never drive with the boot lid
open. G
WARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or not secured sufficiently, they could slip, tip
over or be flung around and thereby hit vehicle
occupants. There is arisk of injury, especially
when braking or abruptly changing directions.
Always store objectssot hat they cannot be
flung around. Secure objects, luggage or
loads against slipping or tipping before the
journey. G
WARNING
The exhaust tail pipe and tail pipe trim can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn
yourself. There is arisk of injury.
Always be particularly careful around the
exhaust tail pipe and the tail pipe trim. Allow
these components to cool down before touch-
ing them.
The handling characteristics of aladen vehicle
are dependent on the distribution of the load
within the vehicle. For this reason, you should
observe the following notes when transporting a
load:
R never exceed the maximum permissible gross
vehicle weight or the permissible axle loads
for the vehicle (including occupants).
R the boot is the preferred place to store
objects.
R position heavy loads as far forward as possi-
ble and as low down in the boot as possible. R
the load must not protrude above the upper
edge of the seat backrests.
R always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
R secure the load with sufficiently stronga nd
wear-resistant lashing material. Pad sharp
edges for protection.

stowed incorrectly, they can slide or be
thrown around and hit vehicle occupants. In
addition, cupholders, open stowage spaces
and mobile phone brackets cannot always
retain all objectst hey contain. There is arisk
of injury, particularly in the event of sudden
braking or asudden change in direction.
R Always stow objectssot hat they cannot be
thrown around in such situations.
R Always make sure that objectsdon ot pro-
trude from stowage spaces, parcel nets or
stowage nets.
R Close the lockable stowage spaces before
startingaj ourney.
R Always stow and secure heavy, hard, poin-
ted, sharp-edged, fragile or bulky objectsin
the boot.

can be folded down separately to increas ethe
boot capacity. The division ratio is 40 %to20%to
40%.

Stowage well under the boot floor
! Remove the handle again before closing the
boot lid and snap it in tightly to prevent the
handle flap from protruding. Otherwise, you
could damage the handle. X

Important safety notes G
WARNING
When aload is transported on the roof, the
vehicle's centre of gravity rises and the han-
dling changes. If you exceed the maximum
roof load, the handling as well as steering and braking characteristics are severely affected.
There is arisk of an accident.
Always observe the maximum roof load and
adapt your driving style.
You will find information on the maximum roof
load in the "Technical data" section
(Y page 377). !
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you only
use roof carriers that have been tested and
approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This
helps to prevent damage to the vehicle.
Position the load on the roof carrier in such a way that the vehicle will not sustain damage
even when it is in motion.
Depending on the vehicle equipment, ensure
that when the roof carrier is fitted you can:
R raise the sliding sunroof/panorama sliding
sunroof fully
R open the boot lid fully
An incorrectly secured roof carrier or roof load
may become detached from the vehicle. You
must therefore ensure that you observe the roof
carrier manufacturer's installation instructions.
Vehicles with panoramas liding sunroof:if a
roof carrier is fitted, the panorama sliding sun-
roof cannot be opened. In order to allow venti-
lation of the vehicle interior, you can raise the
panorama sliding sunroof.
If ar oof carrier approved by Mercedes-Benz
makes contact with the panorama sliding sun-
roof, the sunroof will lower slightly but remain
raised in the rear.

Vehicles wit hmanual transmission:
X To remove: slide upper cup holder sec-
tions :on th edriver' sand front-passenger
side sinwards until they release.
X Slide th ecup holder forwards slightly and
then pull it upwards ;. X
To fit:i nsert th ecup holder at th efront and
then slide it backwards until it reaches edge
= of th eunderside of th estowage compart-
ment. Inser tthe cup holder so that th ewedge
of th eupper section of th ecup holder faces
forwards.
X Slide upper cup holder sections :on the
driver' sand front-passenger side soutwards,
until bot hlefta nd right sides ;engage. 314

You can remove the rubber mat of the cup
holder to clean it. Wash it with clean ,lukewarm
water only. If you remove the cup holder insert, you can use
the resulting compartmen tfor stowage.

X To remove: slide catch=forwards and pull
out cup holder ;.

You can remove the rubber mat of the cup

The stowage space under the ashtray is not
heat resistant .Before placin glit cigarettes in
the ashtray, make sure that the ashtray is
properly engaged. Otherwise, the stowage

X Push the cover of the ashtray upwards on its
right side =.

There is arisk of fire and injury.
Always hold the cigarett elighter by the knob.
Always make sure that the cigarett elighter is
out of reach of children. Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.
Your attention must always be focused on the
traffic conditions. Only use the cigarett elighter
when road and traffic condition spermit. Example
X Turn the key to position 2in the ignition lock

Vsockets
Genera lnotes X
Turn the key to position 1in the ignition lock
(Y page 145).
The sockets can be used for accessories with a
maximum draw of 180 W(15 A). Accessories
include such item sasmobile phon echargers.
If you use the sockets for long periods when the engin eisswitched off, the battery may dis-
charge.
An emergenc ycut-of fensures that the on-board
voltage does not drop too low. If the on-board
voltage is too low, the power to the sockets is
automatically cut .This ensures that there is suf-
ficient power to star tthe engine.
If you have connected adevic etot he 12 V
socket, leave the cover of the stowage com-
partmen topen. This prevent sthe cover from
being blocked. 316

Important safety notes G
DANGER
When asuitable device is connected, the
230 Vpower socket will be carrying ahigh
voltage. You could receive an electric shock if the connector cable or the 230 Vpower
socket is pulled out of the trim or is damaged
or wet. There is arisk of fatal injury.
R Use only connector cables that are dry and
free of damage.
R When the ignition is off, make sure that the
230 Vpower socket is dry.
R Immediately have the 230 Vpower socket
checked or replaced at aqualified special-
ised workshop if it is damaged or has been
pulled out of the trim.
R Never plug the connector cable into a230 V
power socket that is damaged or has been pulled out of the trim. G
DANGER
If you reach into the power socket or plug
inappropriate devices into the power socket,
you could receive an electric shock. There is a risk of fatal injury.
Only attach appropriate objectstot he power
socket. !
Note that work and repairs on the 230 V
power socket should only be carried out by
qualified specialist personnel.
General notes The 230
Vpower socket provides an alternating
voltage of 230 Vsothat small electronic devices
can be connected. These devices, such as
games consoles, chargers and laptops, must not
consume more than amaximum of 150 watts
altogether.
Do not connect any multiple socket outlets to
the 230 Vpower socket.
Requirements for operating these devices:
R the electronic device that you connect has a
suitable connector and conforms to stand-
ards specific to the country you are in
R the electronic device connector is plugged
into the 230 Vpower socket
R the maximum wattage of the device to be
connected must not exceed 150 watts
R the on-board voltage is within apermissible
voltage range
R the 12 Vsocket in the front centre console is
working properly (Y page 317)

To switch on: switch the ignition on.
