Resetting the side windows
If a side window can no longer be closed fully,you must reset it.
XClose all the doors.
XTurn the SmartKey to positionGorHin theignition lock.
XPull the corresponding switch on the doorcontrol panel until the side window is com-pletely closed (Ypage 90).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
If the side window opens again slightly:
XImmediately pull the corresponding switch onthe door control panel until the side window iscompletely closed (Ypage 90).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
XIf the respective side window remains closedafter the button is released, then it has beenset correctly. If this is not the case, repeat thesteps above.
Problems with the side windows
GWARNING
If you close a side window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side window
closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of the
body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of injury or
even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process, release
the switch or push the switch again to reopen the side window.

XTurn the SmartKey to positionGorHin theignition lock.
XPress or pull theWswitch in the corre-sponding direction.
If you press/pull theWswitch beyond thepressure point, automatic operation is started inthe corresponding direction. When being raisedor opened, the sliding sunroof first automaticallymoves to the comfort setting. If you activateraise or open again, the sliding sunroof is raisedor opened completely. You can stop automaticoperation by pressing/pulling the switch again.
When opening and raising the roof, automaticoperation is only available if the sliding sunroofis in the closed position.
The sun protection cover automatically opensalong with the sliding sunroof. You can open orclose the sun protection cover manually whenthe sliding sunroof is raised or closed.
You can continue to operate the sliding sunroofafter switching off the engine or removing the
SmartKey from the ignition lock. This function isavailable for up to five minutes or until the driv-er's or front-passenger door is opened.
Resetting
!If the sliding sunroof still cannot be openedor closed fully after resetting, contact a quali-fied specialist workshop.
Reset the sliding sunroof if it does not movesmoothly.
XTurn the SmartKey to positionGorHin theignition lock.
XRaise the sliding sunroof fully at the rear(Ypage 93).
XKeep theWswitch pressed for anothersecond.
XMake sure that the sliding sunroof can be fullyopened and closed again (Ypage 93).
XIf this is not the case, repeat the steps above.
Problems with the sliding sunroof
GWARNING
If you close the sliding sunroof again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the sliding
sunroof closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts

If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rpress the switch in any direction during the automatic closing process
The closing process is stopped.
!If the sliding sunroof still cannot be opened or closed as a result of a malfunction, contact aqualified specialist workshop.

Position of the steering wheel for driv-

The steering wheel is moved to the last selectedposition when:
Rthe driver's door is closed and you insert theSmartKey into the ignition lock
Ryou close the driver's door when the ignitionis switched on
Ryou press the Start/Stop button once in vehi-cles with KEYLESS-GO or the KEYLESS-GOstart function
iThe steering wheel only returns to the lastset position if the driving position is storedafter the seat or steering column has beenadjusted (Ypage 107).
The most recent driving position of the steeringwheel is stored if:
Rthe ignition is switched off
Rthe setting is stored using the memory func-tion (Ypage 107)
Crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature
If the crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature is trig-gered in an accident, the steering column willmove up when the driver's door is opened or theSmartKey is removed from the ignition lock. Thismakes it easier to exit the vehicle and rescue theoccupants.
The crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature isoperational only if the EASY-EXIT/ENTRY fea-ture is activated in the multimedia system (seeDigital Operator's Manual).

GWARNING
You could lose control of your vehicle if you do
the following while driving:
Radjust the driver's seat, head restraint,
steering wheel or mirrors
Rfasten the seat belt
There is a risk of an accident.
Adjust the driver's seat, head restraint, steer-
ing wheel and mirror and fasten your seat belt
before starting the engine.
GWARNING
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side reduces the size of the image. Visible
objects are actually closer than they appear.
This means that you could misjudge the dis-
tance from road users traveling behind, e.g.
when changing lane. There is a risk of an acci-
dent.
For this reason, always make sure of the
actual distance from the road users traveling
behind by glancing over your shoulder.

When the engine is running and the vehicle isstationary: if you move the selector lever from adriving position to], the daytime driving lightsand low-beam headlamps go out after threeminutes.
When the engine is running, the vehicle is sta-tionary and in bright ambient light: if you turn thelight switch to the`position, the daytimerunning lamps and parking lamps switch on.
If the engine is running and you turn the lightswitch to theXposition, the manual settingstake precedence over the daytime runninglamps.
Low-beam headlamps
GWARNING
When the light switch is set toX, the low-
beam headlamps may not be switched on
automatically if there is fog, snow or other
causes of poor visibility due to the weather
conditions such as spray. There is a risk of an
accident.
In such situations, turn the light switch to
X.
Even if the light sensor does not detect that it isdark, the parking lamps and low-beam head-lamps switch on when the ignition is switched onand the light switch is set to theXposition.This is a particularly useful function in the eventof rain and fog.
XTo switch on the low-beam headlamps:turn the SmartKey to positionHin the igni-tion lock or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch to theXposition.The greenXindicator lamp in the instru-ment cluster lights up.
Rear fog lamp
The rear fog lamp improves visibility of yourvehicle for the traffic behind in the event of thickfog. You must observe the legal requirementsfor the country in which you are currently drivingwhen operating the rear fog lamp.
XTo switch on the rear fog lamp:turn theSmartKey in the ignition lock to positionHorstart the engine.
XTurn the light switch to theXorXposition.
XPress the^button.The yellow^indicator lamp on the instru-ment cluster lights up.
Parking lamps
!If the battery charge is very low, the parkinglamps or standing lamps are automaticallyswitched off to enable the next engine start.Always park your vehicle safely and in a well litarea, in accordance with the relevant legalstipulations. Avoid using the`parkinglamps over a period of several hours. If pos-sible, switch on the right-handdor left-handcstanding lamps.
XTo switch on the parking lamps:turn thelight switch to the`position.The green`indicator lamp on the instru-ment cluster lights up.
Standing lamps
Switching on the standing lamps ensures thecorresponding side of the vehicle is illuminated.
XTo switch on the parking lamp:turn theSmartKey to positionZin the ignition lock orremove the SmartKey.
XTurn the light switch to thec(left-handside of the vehicle) ord(right-hand side ofthe vehicle) position.

The system automatically adapts the low-beamheadlamp range depending on the distance tothe other vehicle. Once the system no longerdetects any other vehicles, it reactivates thehigh-beam headlamps.
The system's optical sensor is located behindthe windshield near the overhead control panel.
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Adaptive Highbeam Assist does not recognize
road users:
Rwho have no lights, e.g. pedestrians
Rwho have poor lighting, e.g. cyclists
Rwhose lighting is blocked, e.g. by a barrier
On very rare occasions, Adaptive Highbeam
Assist may fail to recognize other road users
that have lights, or may recognize them too
late. In this, or in similar situations, the auto-
matic high-beam headlamps will not be deac-
tivated or will be activated regardless. There is
a risk of an accident.
Always carefully observe the traffic conditions
and switch off the high-beam headlamps in
good time.
Adaptive Highbeam Assist cannot take intoaccount road, weather or traffic conditions.Adaptive Highbeam Assist is only an aid. You areresponsible for adjusting the vehicle's lightingto the prevailing light, visibility and traffic con-ditions.
In particular, the detection of obstacles can beimpaired if:
Rthere is poor visibility, e.g. due to fog, heavyrain or snow
Rthere is dirt on the sensors or anything elsecovering the sensors

Operating the perfume atomizer
GWARNING
If children open the vial, they could drink the
perfume or it could come into contact with
their eyes. There is a risk of injury. Therefore,
do not leave children unsupervised in the vehi-
cle.
If the perfume liquid has been drunk, consult
a doctor. If perfume comes into contact with
your eyes or skin, rinse the eyes with clean
water. If you continue to experience difficul-
ties, consult a doctor.

Full vials must not be dis-
posed of with household
waste. They must be collec-
ted separately and recycled

The following conditions can affect your percep-tion of the perfume intensity:
Roperating mode of automatic climate control
Rinterior temperature
Rtime of year or day
Rair humidity
Rphysiological condition of occupants, e.g. fati-gue or hunger
The perfume atomizer is active only when theglove box is closed.
The perfume atomizer is provided with a pre-fil-led vial. You can also choose from a variety ofpre-filled vials and an empty vial which you canfill yourself.
If you refill an empty perfume vial, observe theseparate information sheet attached to the vial.
!If you do not use genuine Mercedes-Benzinterior perfumes, observe the safety noteson the perfume packaging.
Do not refill the pre-filled vial when it is empty.Dispose of the used vial after use.
XTo insert the perfume vial:open the glovebox (Ypage 279).
XSlide the perfume vial into the holder as far asit will go.
XTo remove the perfume vial:pull out theperfume vial.

GWARNING
If you switch off the ignition while driving,
safety-relevant functions are only available
with limitations, or not at all. This could affect,
for example, the power steering and the brake
boosting effect. You will require considerably
more effort to steer and brake. There is a risk
of an accident.
Do not switch off the ignition while driving.
GWARNING
If the parking brake has not been fully
released when driving, the parking brake can:
Roverheat and cause a fire
Rlose its hold function.
There is a risk of fire and an accident. Release
the parking brake fully before driving off.
!Do not warm up the engine while stationary.Pull away immediately. Avoid high enginespeeds and full throttle until the engine hasreached its operating temperature.
In vehicles with automatic transmission,engage positions P and R only when the vehi-cle is stationary.
Where possible, avoid spinning the drivewheels when pulling away on slippery roads.You could otherwise damage the drive train.
!Mercedes-AMG vehicles:at low engine oiltemperatures below 68 ‡ (+20 †), the max-imum engine speed is restricted in order toprotect the engine. To protect the engine andmaintain smooth engine operation, avoid driv-ing at full throttle when the engine is cold.

Start/Stop button
General notes
When you insert the Start/Stop button into theignition lock, the system needs approximatelytwo seconds recognition time. You can then usethe Start/Stop button.
Pressing the Start/Stop button several times insuccession corresponds to the different Smart-Key positions in the ignition lock. This is only thecase if you are not depressing the brake pedal.
If you depress the brake pedal and press theStart/Stop button, the engine starts immedi-ately.
A check which periodically establishes a radioconnection between the vehicle and the Smart-Key determines whether a valid SmartKey is inthe vehicle. This occurs, for example, whenstarting the engine.

To start the vehicle without actively using theSmartKey:
Rthe Start/Stop button must be inserted in theignition lock.
Rthe SmartKey must be in the vehicle.
Rthe vehicle must not be locked with theSmartKey or KEYLESS-GO. (Ypage 78)
Do not keep the SmartKey:
Rwith electronic devices, e.g. a mobile phoneor another SmartKey.
Rwith metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal foil.
Rinside metallic objects, e.g. a metal case.
This can affect the functionality of the Smart-Key.
If you lock the vehicle with the SmartKey remotecontrol or with KEYLESS-GO, after a short time:
Ryou will not be able to switch on the ignitionwith the Start/Stop button.
Ryou will no longer be able to start the enginewith the Start/Stop button until the vehicle isunlocked again.
If you lock the vehicle centrally using the buttonon the front door (Ypage 83), you can continueto start the engine with the Start/Stop button.
The engine can be switched off while the vehicleis in motion by pressing and holding the Start/Stop button for three seconds. This functionoperates independently of the ECO start/stopautomatic engine switch-off function.

Removing the Start/Stop button
You can remove the Start/Stop button from theignition lock and start the vehicle as normalusing the SmartKey.
It is possible to switch between Start/Stop but-ton mode and key operation only when thetransmission is in position].
XRemove Start/Stop buttonCfrom ignitionlockD.
You do not have to remove the Start/Stop but-ton from the ignition lock when you leave thevehicle. You should, however, always take theSmartKey with you when leaving the vehicle. Aslong as the SmartKey is in the vehicle:

be moved but the parking lock remainsengaged.
iUpshifts take place at higher engine speedsafter a cold start. This helps the catalytic con-verter to reach its operating temperaturemore quickly.

Pulling away with a trailer
To ensure that you do not roll backwards whenpulling away on an uphill slope, engage the elec-tric parking brake.
XPress and hold handleC.The electric parking brake continues to brakeand prevent the vehicle from rolling back-wards.
The redI(USA only) or$(Canadaonly) indicator lamp in the instrument clusterremains on.
XDepress the accelerator pedal.
XAs soon as the vehicle/trailer combination isheld by the driving force of the engine, releaseleverC.The electric parking brake is released.
The redI(USA only) or$(Canadaonly) indicator lamp in the instrument clustergoes out.

Hill start assist
Hill start assist helps you when pulling awayforward or in reverse on an uphill gradient. Itholds the vehicle for a short time after you haveremoved your foot from the brake pedal. Thisgives you enough time to move your foot from
the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal and todepress it before the vehicle begins to roll.
GWARNING
After a short time, hill start assist will no lon-
ger brake your vehicle and it could roll away.
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
Therefore, quickly move your foot from the
brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. Never
leave the vehicle when it is held by hill start
assist.
Hill start assist is not active if:
Ryou are pulling away on a level road or on adownhill gradient.
Rthe transmission is in position\\
Rthe electric parking brake is applied.
RESP®is malfunctioning
ECO start/stop function
Introduction
The ECO start/stop function switches theengine off automatically if the vehicle is stoppedunder certain conditions.
The engine starts automatically when the driverwants to pull away again. The ECO start/stopfunction thereby helps you to reduce the fuelconsumption and emissions of your vehicle.
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If the engine is switched off automatically and
you exit the vehicle, the engine is restarted
automatically. The vehicle may begin moving.
There is a risk of accident and injury.
If you wish to exit the vehicle, always turn off
the ignition and secure the vehicle against
rolling away.

The engine is not runningsmoothly and is misfir-ing.
There is a malfunction in the engine electronics or in a mechanicalcomponent of the engine management system.
XOnly depress the accelerator pedal slightly.Otherwise, non-combusted fuel may get into the catalytic converterand damage it.
XHave the cause rectified immediately at a qualified specialist work-shop.
The coolant temperaturedisplay indicates a valuewithin the red band.
The coolant level is too low. The coolant is too hot and the engine is nolonger being cooled sufficiently.
XStop as soon as possible and allow the engine and the coolant tocool down.
XCheck the coolant level (Ypage 303). Observe the warning notesas you do so and add coolant if necessary.
