To accelerate for passing

the accelerator pedal as you would normal-
ly. When you release the pedal, you will return to
your set speed. To deactivate

The auto-speed control can be turned off as follows:
l Push

the main switch (A) at the end of the lev-
er. (Main switch OFF)
l Pull the auto-speed control lever (B) towards
you.
l Depress the brake pedal. The auto-speed control is turned off automatically
in any of the following ways.
l By

pressing the clutch pedal down (for vehi-
cles with M/T).
l When your speed slows to about 15 km/h
(9 mph) or more below the set speed because
of a hill, etc. (for petrol-powered vehicles)
l When your speed slows to about 40 km/h
(25 mph) or less.
l When the Active Stability Control (ASC)
starts operating. (if so equipped) Refer to
“Active stability control (ASC)” on page
4-23. WARNING
l For
vehicles with A/T, although the auto-
speed control will be disengaged when
shifting to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position,
never move the selector lever to the “N”
(NEUTRAL) position while driving.
You would have no engine braking and
could cause a serious accident. To resume the set speed

If

the speed memory has not been erased, resume
the previously set speed by pulling the auto-speed
control lever up while driving at a speed of about
40 km/h (25 mph) or higher. Under either of the following conditions, however,
using

the switch does not allow you to resume the
previously set speed. In these situations, repeat the
speed setting procedure:
l The ignition switch is turned OFF.
l The main switch is turned OFF. Starting and driving

Corner sensor system*

This
system operates when you are backing the ve-
hicle. It uses corner and back sensors to detect an
obstacle and sounds a buzzer to inform you of the
approximate distance to the obstacle. CAUTION
l
The
corner sensor system assists you in de-
termining the approximate distance be-
tween the vehicle and an obstacle located
behind the vehicle. It has limitations in
terms of detectable areas and objects,
and may not properly detect some ob-
jects. Therefore, do not place excessive
confidence in the corner sensor system,
and operate the vehicle as carefully as
you would a vehicle without this system.
l Make sure to check the surroundings
with your own eyes to ensure safety. Do
not operate the vehicle by relying on the
corner sensor system alone.
Obstacle detection areas E00615600199
The detection areas of the corner and back sensors
are

limited to those shown in the illustration. More-
over, the sensors are unable to detect low or thin ob-
jects or objects near the rear bumper. Thus, make
sure to check the surroundings as you operate the
vehicle in a safe manner. Corner and back sensor locations
There

are two corner sensors (A) at the corners of
the rear bumper, and two back sensors (B) in the
centre of the rear bumper. Corner sensor system detection areas
Depending

on whether the vehicle is equipped with
a towing bar, you can change the corner sensor sys-
tem between the standard mode and the towing bar
mode. The towing bar mode changes the system to
exclude the area in which the towing bar is moun-
ted from the detection areas.
Vehicles without a towing bar The detection areas are within approximately
50

cm (A) from the corner sensors, 100 cm (B)
from the back sensors, and 60 cm (C) or less from
the ground surface, excluding the area approximate-
ly 10 cm (D) from the ground surface. Vehicles with a towing bar Starting and driving

The detection areas are within approximately
50
cm (A) from the corner sensors, 100 cm (B)
from the back sensors, and 60 cm (C) or less from
the ground surface, excluding the area approximate-
ly 10 cm (D) from the ground surface. The non-de-
tection areas (E) are within approximately 20 cm
(F) from the bumper. NOTE
l If

the rear bumper has been exposed to an im-
pact, the corner or back sensors may fail and
prevent the system from functioning proper-
ly. We recommend you to have your vehicle
inspected.
l The sensors do not detect objects located in
the area directly below or near the bumper. If
the height of an object is lower than the moun-
ted position of the corner or back sensors,
the sensors may not continue detecting it
even if they detected it initially.
For information on how to change the detection
areas, please refer to “Changing the detection
areas” on page 4-31. CAUTION
l
The
corner sensor system may not oper-
ate properly under the following condi-
tions: • The sensors or surroundings are cov-ered with ice, snow, or mud.
• The sensors are frozen.
• The system receives ultrasonic noise from other sources (the horns of other
vehicles, motorcycle engines, brakes,
radios, pouring rain, splashing water,
tyre chains, etc.).
• The sensors are extremely hot or cold (while the vehicle is parked for a long
period of time under a blazing sun or
in cold weather).
• The vehicle tilts significantly.
• The vehicle is driven on a rough road (with a bumpy, gravel, hilly, or grassy
surface).
• The vehicle is too close to an obstacle.
• The sensors or surroundings have been wiped by hand, or stickers or ac-
cessories have been attached.
l The corner sensor system may not prop-
erly detect the following:
• Objects that are thin, such as wirenets or ropes.
• Objects that absorb sound waves, such as snow.
• Objects that are shaped with a sharp angle.
• Objects with a smooth surface, such as glass.
• Objects that are low, such as kerb- stones. NOTE
l The

buzzer may sound lower than the normal
warning sound when the corner sensor sys-
tem is receiving ultrasonic noise from other
sources, but this is not a malfunction. The buz-
zer will stop sounding and the system will re-
turn to normal operation after the noise is no
longer received.

To operate the system while the ignition switch is
“ON”,

move the selector lever to the “R” (RE-
VERSE) position on an A/T vehicle, or move the
gearshift lever to the “R” (Reverse) position on a
M/T vehicle. To stop the operation, push the “SO-
NAR” switch. The “SONAR OFF” indication lamp will illumi-
nate

to indicate that the system has stopped operat-

It will flash in case there is a malfunction in the sys-
tem.
For details, refer to ““SONAR OFF” indica-
tion lamp” on page 4-32. To return the system to the operating state, push
the

“SONAR” switch again. When the system re-
turns to the operating state, the buzzer sounds once
and the “SONAR OFF” indication lamp turns off.
NOTE
l The “SONAR OFF” indication lamp flashes
once when the ignition switch is turned to
the “ON” position.
The warning buzzer sounds when the system de-
tects an obstacle during operation.
NOTE l After pushing the “SONAR” switch, corner
sensor system operation differs according to
the detection area setting. • Setting when towing bar is not equipped
When
the selector lever is moved to the
“R” (REVERSE) position on an A/T ve-
hicle, or the gearshift lever is moved to
the “R” (Reverse) position on a M/T vehi-
cle, the corner sensor system will operate
even if corner sensor system operation
was stopped by pushing the “SONAR”
switch.
• Setting when towing bar is equipped When corner sensor system operation
was stopped by pushing the “SONAR”
switch, the corner sensor system will not
operate until the engine has been stopped
even if the selector lever is moved to the
“R” (REVERSE) position on an A/T ve-
hicle, or the gearshift lever is moved to
the “R” (Reverse) position on a M/T vehi-
cle.
To resume corner sensor system opera-
tion, push the “SONAR” switch or stop
and restart the engine, and then move the
selector lever to the “R” (REVERSE) po-
sition on an A/T vehicle, or the gearshift
lever to the “R” (Reverse) position on a
M/T vehicle.
Warning for obstacles
If there is an obstacle behind the vehicle, a warning
buzzer sounds to indicate the distance between the

Vehicles with a towing bar
While
the operation of the system is stopped at the
SONAR switch, push the SONAR switch approxi-
mately 3 seconds or more, and release it. The buz-
zer sounds twice to indicate that the detection area
has been changed.
Vehicles without a towing bar
While the operation of the system is stopped at the
SONAR switch, push the SONAR switch approxi-
mately 3 seconds or more, and release it. The buz-
zer sounds once to indicate that the detection area
has been changed.
NOTE
l The detection area will not change if you
keep the SONAR switch pushed for 10 sec-
onds or more. “SONAR OFF” indication lamp

In
case there is a malfunction in the corner sensor
system, the “SONAR OFF” indication lamp will
flash and the warning buzzer will sound for approx-
imately 5 seconds. Even after the buzzer has stop-
ped sounding, the indication lamp will continue
flashing until the system reverts to the normal
state. We recommend you to have your vehicle in-
spected. Cargo loads

Cargo loads precautions CAUTION
l
Do
not load cargo or luggage higher than
the top of the seatback. Be sure that your
cargo or luggage cannot move once your
vehicle is moving.
Having either the rear view blocked, or
your cargo being thrown inside the cabin
if you suddenly have to brake can cause a
serious accident or injury.
l Load heavy cargo or luggage in the front
of the vehicle. If the load in the back of
the vehicle is too heavy, steering may be-
come unstable.

CAUTION

Do not load luggage directly onto the
roof. Use a roof carrier that properly fits
your vehicle.
For installation, refer to the instruction
manual accompanying the roof carrier.
NOTE l We

recommend you to use a genuine
MITSUBISHI roof carrier, since the brackets
to be used have a special shape. For details,
we recommend you to consult a
MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service
Point.
Roof carrier mounting brackets* When installing the roof carrier, use the brackets
(A).

The brackets (A) are located under each roof
drip moulding (B). NOTE
l We

recommend you to use a genuine
MITSUBISHI roof carrier, since the brackets
to be used have a special shape. For details,
we recommend you to consult a
MITSUBISHI Authorized Service Point.
Roof carrier precaution CAUTION
l
Make
sure that the weight of the luggage
does not exceed the allowable roof load.
If the allowable roof load is exceeded, this
may cause damage to the vehicle.
The roof load is the total allowable load
on the roof (the weight of the roof carrier
plus the weight of luggage placed on the
roof carrier).
For specific figures, please refer to “Max-
imum roof load” on page 9-07.
l When luggage is loaded onto the vehicle,
please make sure to drive slowly and
avoid excessive manoeuvres such as sud-
den braking or quick turning.
In addition, place the luggage on the car-
rier so that its weight is distributed even-
ly with the heaviest items on the bottom.
Do not load items that are wider than the
roof carrier.
The additional weight on the roof could
raise the vehicle’s centre of gravity and af-
fect vehicle handling characteristics.
As a result, driving errors or emergency
manoeuvres could lead to a loss of control
and result in an accident. CAUTION
l
Before
driving and after travelling a
short distance, always check the load to
make sure it is securely fastened to the
roof carrier.
Check periodically during your travel
that the load remains secure. If the load
is not secure, it could fall from the vehicle
and damage your vehicle, another vehicle
or create road hazard.
NOTE l To

prevent wind noise or reduction in fuel
economy, remove the roof carrier when not
in use.
l Before using an automatic car wash, check
with the attendant to determine if the roof car-
rier should be removed.
l Be sure that adequate clearance is main-
tained for raising the sunroof (if so equip-
ped) and/or the tailgate when installing a

Trailer towing

order to tow a trailer with your vehicle, have a
trailer towing device that meets all relevant regula-
tions in your area, mounted consult a
MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
The regulations concerning the towing of a trailer
may differ from country to country. You are ad-
vised to obey the regulations in each area. CAUTION
l
Danger of Accident!
A

towing bar should be fitted according
to MITSUBISHI MOTORS guidelines.
NOTE l If

you are going to tow a trailer, pay careful
attention to the following points.
Maximum towable weight with brake
and maximum trailer-nose weight
Never exceed the maximum towable weight with
brake and the maximum trailer-nose weight as lis-
ted in the specifications. (Refer to page 9-07.)
If you tow a trailer at an altitude of more than
1,000 m above sea-level, reduce your weight by
10 % of the gross combination weight for every in-
crease of 1,000 m above sea-level, as the engine out-
put is lowered owing to decrease in atmospheric

Be sure that the driving speed does not ex-
ceed 100 km/h (62 mph) for trailer operation.
It is also recommended that you obey the lo-
cal regulations in case driving speed with a
trailer is limited to less than 100 km/h
(62 mph).
l To prevent shocks from the overrun brake, de-
press the brake pedal lightly at first and then
more strongly.
l To make full use of engine braking, change
to a lower gear before descending a slope.
l The body, brakes, clutch, and chassis will be
under additional strain when towing a trailer.
l The heavier weight and higher rolling and air
resistance will increase fuel consumption.
Additional precautions for vehicles equipped with
A/T
The 2 nd
gear (in “Sports mode”) is recommended
on slopes or at low speed. Use the 1 st
gear (in
“Sports mode”) in mountainous areas in order to
make better use of engine braking and to assist the
brake system. However, be sure that the speed does
not exceed the maximum speed limit for the selec-
