(h) Aligning the matchmarks, install the inboard joint assy LH
to the outboard joint shaft assy LH.
38. INSTALL FR AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT
(a) Install the inboard joint boot to the inboard joint assy LH and outboard joint shaft assy LH.
39. INSTALL FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT
CLAMP
(a) Install the inboard joint boot clamp.
(1) Hold the drive shaft in a soft vise.
(2) Secure the 2 inboard joint boot clamps onto the
boot.
(3) Place SST onto the inboard joint large boot clamp.
SST 09521−24010
(4) Tighten the SST so that the large clamp is pinched.
NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the SST.
(5) Using SST, adjust the clearance of the large clamp.
SST 09240−00020
Clearance: 0.8 mm (0.031in.) or less
NOTICE:
When the measured value exceeds the specified value, re-
tighten the clamp.
(b) Install the inboard joint boot LH clamp following the same
procedure as for the inboard joint boot LH No.2 clamp.
40. INSPECT FRONT DRIVE SHAFT
(a) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial direc-
tion of the outboard joint.
(b) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust
direction.
(c) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial direc-
tion of the inboard joint.
(d) Check the boots for damage.
NOTICE:
Keep the drive shaft assy level during inspection.

41. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSY LH
(a) Coat the inboard joint shaft assy LH spline with gear oil.
(b) Align the shaft splines and install the drive shaft assy LH
with a brass bar and hammer.
NOTICE:
SSet the snap ring with the opening side facing down-
wards.
SBe careful not to damage the oil seal, boot and dust
cover.
42. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSY RH (RH DRIVE
SHAFT)
(a) Coat the inboard joint shaft assy RH spline with gear oil.
(b) Align the shaft splines and install the drive shaft assy RH
with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgfcm, 47 ftlbf)
NOTICE:
Do not damage the oil seal, boot and dust cover.
43. INSTALL FRONT AXLE ASSY LH
(a) Install the drive shaft assy LH to the front axle assy LH.
NOTICE:
SBe careful not to damage the outboard joint boot.
SBe careful not to damage the speed sensor rotor.
44. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB−ASSY
LOWER NO.1LH
(a) Install the lower ball joint to the front suspension arm sub−
assy lower No.1LH with the bolt and 2 nuts.
Torque: 89 Nm (908 kgfcm, 66 ftlbf)

45. INSTALL TIE ROD END SUB−ASSY LH
(a) Install the tie rod end sub−assy LH to the steering knuckle with the nut.
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgfcm, 36 ftlbf)
(b) Install a new cotter pin.
NOTICE:
If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut up to 60_further.
46. CONNECT SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH
(a) Install the speed sensor front LH to the steering knuckle
with the bolt.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgfcm, 71in.lbf)
(b) Connect the speed sensor wire and flexible hose to the
shock absorber with the bolt.
Torque:19Nm(194 kgfcm,14ftlbf)
NOTICE:
SBe careful not to damage the speed sensor.
SKeep the speed sensor clean.
SDo not twist the sensor wire when installing the sen-
sor.
47. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSY LH
(a) Install the front stabilizer link assy LH with the nut.
Torque: 74 Nm (755 kgfcm, 55 ftlbf)
HINT:
If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon
wrench (6 mm) to hold the stud.
48. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB LH NUT
(a) Install a new axle hub LH nut.
Torque: 216Nm (2,200 kgfcm,159 ftlbf)
(b) Using a chisel and hammer, stake the axle hub LH nut.

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT GLOW PLUG RELAY ASSY
(a) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the
terminals.
Specified condition:

If the result is not as specified, replace the glow plug relay.

ON−VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT BATTERY (EXCEPT MAINTENANCE−FREE
BATTERY)
(a) Check the battery electrolyte level.
(1) Check the electrolyte quantity of each cell.
If the electrolyte quantity is below the recommended amount,
add distilled water.
(b) Check the indicator as shown in the illustration.

2. INSPECT BATTERY TERMINALS, FUSIBLE LINK AND FUSES
(a) Visually check the battery terminals.
(1) Check that the battery terminals are not loosened or corroded.
(b) Visually check the fusible link and fuses.
(1) Check that there is continuity of the fusible links, high−current fuses and regular fuses.
3. INSPECT V−RIBBED BELT
(a) Visually check the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords
etc.
SIf any defects are found, replace the v−ribbed belt.
SCracks on the rib side of the belt are considered ac-
ceptable.
If the belt has chunks missing from the ribs, it should
be replaced.
(b) Check that the belt fits properly in the ribbed grooves.
Confirm that the belt has not slipped out of the groove on the
bottom of the pulley by hand.
4. VISUALLY CHECK GENERATOR WIRING
(a) Check that the wiring is in good condition.
5. LISTEN FOR ABNORMAL NOISES FROM GENERATOR
(a) Check that no abnormal noise is heard from the generator while the engine is running.
6. INSPECT CHARGE WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT

(a) Turn the ignition switch ON. Check that the charge warning light comes on.
(b) Start the engine, then check that the light goes off.
HINT:
If the light does not operate as specified, troubleshoot the charge warning light circuit.
7. INSPECT CHARGING CIRCUIT WITHOUT LOAD
(a) If a tester is not available, connect a voltmeter to the
charging circuit as follows:
(1) Disconnect the wire from terminal B of the genera-
tor, then connect it to the negative (−) lead of the
ammeter.
(2) Connect the positive (+) lead of the ammeter to ter-
minal B of the generator.
(3) Connect the positive (+) lead of the voltmeter to ter-
minal B of the generator.
(4) Ground the negative (−) lead of the voltmeter.
(b) Check the charging circuit.
(1) Keep the engine speed at 2,000 rpm, then check
the reading on the ammeter and voltmeter.
Standard amperage: 10 A or less
Standard voltage: 12.9 to 14.9 V
8. INSPECT CHARGING CIRCUIT WITH LOAD
(a) With the engine running at 2,000 rpm, turn the high beam headlights ON and turn the heater blower
switch to the ”HI” position.
(b) Check the reading on the ammeter.
Standard amperage: 30 A or more
SIf the ammeter reading is less than the standard amperage, repair the generator.
SIf the battery is fully charged, the indication will sometimes be less than the standard amperage.

(c) Remove the O −ring from the oil level gage guide.
32. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and level sensor.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to drop the oil level sensor when removing.
33. REMOVE OIL PAN SUB −ASSY NO.2
(a) Remove the 16 bolts and 3 nuts.
(b) Insert the blade of SST between the No. 1 and No. 2 oil pans, then cut off the applied sealer and remove the No.
2 oil pan.

Be careful not to damage the No. 1 and No. 2 oil pans.

34. REMOVE OIL STRAINER SUB −ASSY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts, then remove the oil strain- er and gasket.
35. REMOVE OIL PAN INSULATOR
(a) Remove the bolt and oil pan insulator.
36. REMOVE OIL PAN SUB −ASSY
(a) Remove the 19 bolts and 3 nuts.
(b) Using a screwdriver, remove the oil pan by prying be-
tween the cylinder block and No. 1 oil pan.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the cylinder block and No. 1 oil
pan.
