■ Operation signals
●Doors: A buzzer sounds and the emergency flashers flash to indicate that
the doors have been locked/unlocked. (Locked: once; Unlocked: t wice)
● Windows and moon roof: A buzzer sounds to indicate that the win dows and
moon roof are operating.
■ Security feature
If a door is not opened within approximately 60 seconds after t he doors are
unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the doors ag ain.
■ When the door cannot be locked by the lock sensor on the upper part of
the front door handle
■ Door lock buzzer
If an attempt to lock the doors is made when a door is not full y closed, a
buzzer will sound continuously for 5 seconds. Fully close the door to stop the
buzzer, and lock the doors again.

If the door will not lock even when the top-
side sensor area is touched, try touching
both the topside and underside sensor
areas at the same time.

Power back door reservation lo ck (vehicles with a power back do or)
If the wireless remote control is used to lock the doors while the power back
door is closing with all side doors fully closed, a buzzer will sound and the
emergency flashers will flash to indicate that the reservation lock is activated.
At this time the side doors are locked. The back door will be l ocked when it is
fully closed.
■ Alarm (if equipped)
Locking the doors will set the alarm system. ( P. 99)
■ If the smart key system or the wireless remote control does not operate
properly
Use the mechanical key to lock and unlock the doors. ( P. 622)
Replace the key battery with a new one if it is depleted. ( P. 539)

The key may not be detected correctly and the door may be locke d.

■Switching the door unlock function
It is possible to set which doors the entry function unlocks using the wireless
remote control.
Turn the power switch off.
When the indicator light on the key surface is not on, press and hold , or for approximately 5 seconds while pressing and holding
.
The setting changes each time an operation is performed, as sho wn below.
(When changing the setting continuously, release the buttons, w ait for at least
5 seconds, and repeat step .)
For vehicles with an alarm: To prevent unintended triggering of the alarm,
unlock the doors using the wireless remote control and open and close a door
once after the settings have been changed. (If a door is not op ened within 60
seconds after is pressed, the doors will be locked again and t he alarm
will automatically be set.)
In case that the alarm is triggered, immediately stop the alarm . ( P. 1 0 0 )

Impact detection door lock release system
In the event that the vehicle is subject to a strong impact, all the doors are
unlocked. Depending on the force of the impact or the type of a ccident, how-
ever, the system may not operate.
■ Using the mechanical key
The doors can also be locked and unlocked with the mechanical k ey.

WARNING
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant f alling out of
the vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury.
● Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked.
● Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even
if the inside lock buttons are in locked position.
● Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are seate d in the rear
seats.

switch to close the back door.
Pressing the switch while the back
door is opening/closing stops the
operation.
To operate the back door again,
quickly press and release the
switch. The back door will then
move in the opposite direction. (If
the back door is stopped at a posi-
tion close to the fully closed posi-
tion, the back door will only open
when the switch is quickly pressed
and released.)

■Luggage compartment light
The luggage compartment light turns on when the back door or gl ass hatch is
opened with the luggage compartment light switch on.
■ After the back door has b een opened and then closed
Lock the back door again as the back door will not lock automat ically.
■ If the back door opener is inoperative
The back door can be unlocked from the inside.
Move the lever for the back door motor.
Vehicles without a power back door
Vehicles with a power back door On
Off
When the power switch is turned off, the
light will go off automatically after 20 min-
utes.
Remove the cover on the back door
trim.
Use a cloth to prevent scratches.
