A WARNING
-If the windshield wipers smear the wind­
shield, clean the w iper blades with w ind­
shield washer fluid .
If the wiper blades
are extremely d irty, you can also clean
them w ith a soft sponge or cloth.
- For your safety, you should replace the
wiper blades once or twice a year . See
yo ur autho riz ed Aud i deale r for replace­
ment blades.
(D Note
- The w indshield wiper blades must only
be replaced when in the serv ice position!
Otherwise, yo u ris k damaging the pai nt
on the hood or the windshield wiper mo ­
tor .
- You sho uld not move yo ur vehicle or
press the w indshie ld w iper lever when
the wiper arms are folded away from the
windshield . The windshield wipers would
move back into the ir origina l position
and could damage the hood and w ind­
s h ield.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper sys­
tem, always loosen blades which are fro­
zen to the windsh ield befo re operat ing
wipers.
- To help prevent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosene, pa int
th inner, or othe r solvents on or nea r the
wipe r blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper
arms or other compone nts, do not at­
tempt to move the w ip ers by hand.
@ Tips
- Commerc ial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affect the how eas ily
the g lass su rface can be cleaned .
- You can also use the service pos ition, for
example, if you want to protect the
windsh ield from ic ing by using a cover .

tion is on . The directions are indicated with
abbreviations:
N (north), NE (northeast), E

To prevent inaccurate compass readings ,
do not b ring any remote contro ls, electr i­
ca l devices or metallic objects near the
mirror.

Adjusting the magnetic zone

The magnetic zone must be adjusted correctly
for the compass to read accurately .

• Press and ho ld the button @ ~fig. 66 until
the n umber of the magnetic zone appears in
the rearview m irror.
• Press the button @repeated ly to select the
correct magnetic zone. The select ion mode
tu rns off afte r a few seconds.
Calibrating the compass
A ppl ies to veh icles : with d ig ital compass
You must recalibrate the compass if it does
not display the correct direction.
• Press and ho ld the button @unti l a C ap­
pears in the rearview mirror.
• Drive in a circle at about 6 mph (10 km/h)
until a direction is d isp layed in the rearview
mirror .

- To avoid endangering yo urself and other
dr ivers, calibrate the compass in a n area
where the re is no traff ic. -
The digital compass is to be used as a di­
rectional aid on ly. Even though you may
want to look at it while you are dr iving,
you must still pay attention to traffic, road and weather conditions as we ll as
other possible hazards.

dations
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can
only provide maximum protection if the front
seats are correctly adjusted.
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the driver and the front passenger. Adjust
your seat properly so that :
- you can easily and quick ly reach all the
switches and controls in the instrument
panel
- your body is properly supported thus reduc­ ing physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and airbag system can offe r
maximum protection

I n the following sections, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust your seats .
There are special regulations and instructions
for installing a child safety seat on the front passenger's seat. Always follow the informa­
tion regard ing child safety provided in
¢ page 161, Child Safety.

low for your own safety and the safety of
your passengers.

Incorrect seating position of the driver and
all other passengers can result in serious
personal injury.
- Always keep your feet on the floor when
the vehicle is in motion -never put your
feet on top of the instrument panel, out of the w indow or on top of the seat cush­
ion. This app lies especially to the passen-

gers . If your seating position is incorrect,
you increase the risk of injury in the case
of sudden braking or an accident . If the
airbag inflates and the seating position
is incorrect, this cou ld result in pe rsonal
in jury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and front passenger to keep a distance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between them­
selves and the steering wheel and/or in­
s trumen t panel. If you're s itting any
closer than th is, the airbag system can ­
not protect you properly. In addition, the
front seats and head restraints m ust be
adj usted to your body height so that they
can give you max imum protect ion.
- Always try to keep as much distance as
possible between yourself and the steer­
ing wheel or instrument panel.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front pas­ senger's seat whi le the vehicle is moving.
Your seat may move unexpectedly, caus­
ing sudden loss of veh icle control and
pe rsonal injury. If you adjust you r seat
while the veh icle is moving, you are ou t
of po sit ion.
Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving .
We recommend that you adjust the dr iver's
seat in the follow ing manner:
.., Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so
that you can easily push the pedals to the
floor wh ile keeping your knees slightly bent

"" Adjust the seatback so that when you sit
w ith your back against the seatback , you can
s ti ll grasp the top of t he steering wheel.

A WARNING
Never place any objects in the driver's foot­
well. An object could get into the pedal area and interfere with pedal function. In
case of sudden braking or an accident, you
would not be able to brake or accelerate .
Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into
the rearmost position.
To avoid contact with the airbag while it is de­
ploying, do not sit any closer to the instru­
ment panel than necessary and always wear
the three-point safety belt provided adjusted correctly . We recommend that you adjust the
passenger's seat in the following manner:
• Bring the backrest up to an (almost) upright
position. Do not ride with the seat reclined.
• Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re­
straints: Adjust the head restraint so the up­
per edge is as even as possible with the top
of your head. If that is not possible, try to
adjust the head restraint so that it is as
close to this position as possible

• Place your feet on the floor in front of the
passenger's seat.

A WARNING
---Never adjust the driver's or front pas ­
senger's seat while the vehicle is moving.
If you do this while the vehicle is moving,
you will be out of position . Always adjust
the driver's or front passenger's seat
when the vehicle is not mov ing.
- Be careful when adjusting the seat
height. Check to see that no one is in the
way, or serious injury could result!
- Because the seats can be electrically ad­
justed with the ignition off or with the
ignition key removed, never leave chil­
dren unattended in the vehicle. Unsuper­
vised use of the electric seat adjust­
ments may cause serious injury.
- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden braking or accident, front pas ­
sengers must never ride in a moving ve­
hicle with the backrest reclined. Safety
belts and the airbag system only offer maximum protection when the backrest
is upright and the safety belts are prop­
erly positioned on the body. The more
the backrest is reclined, the greater the
risk of personal injury from an incorrect
seating position and improperly posi­
tioned safety belts.

Power easy entry function
Applies to vehicles: with power ad justable seats
The easy entry function makes it easier for
the rear passengers to enter and leave the ve­
hicle.

reached the desired position.
When the front seats are moved fo rward,
their origina l posit ion is stored . When it is
moved back, the seat automatically stops in
this posit ion. To move the seat eve n further
back, you have to re lease the switch @ and re­
activa te it .
Applies to vehicles w ith ad justab le head re­
straints : T he head restraints from the front
seats, dependi ng on the seat he ight that has
been set, are au tomatically retrac ted when
the seatbacks are folded down . They return to
thei r origina l posi tion aga in whe n the seat ­
b ac ks f or th e fron t sea ts ar e ra ised .

position of the d river's seat is taken into con ­

senger's seat can be moved to the same posi ­
tion as the d river's seat . The settings for the
driver's seat are imported and set automati­
cally.

Center armrest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several
levels.

Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles : wi th memo ry fun ctio n
The memory function allows you to quickly
and easily store and recall personal seating

profiles for the driver . The memory function is
operated through the master key and the memory buttons in the driver's door.
The driver's seating profi le is stored and as­
signed to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked. The seating profile is recalled auto­
mat ically when the veh icle is unlocked. If two
people use one vehicle , it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own"
master key .
Up to 2 seat profiles can be stored in the
memory buttons in the driver's door. Once
they are stored, these seat profiles can be se­ lected at any time.
In addition to the driver 's seat settings, you
can also store and access the exterior mirror
adjustment settings* using the remote con­
trol key or memory button .
Remote control key
Applies to vehicles: with seat memory
To assign the driver 's seat settings to the re­
mote control key when locking the vehicle, the
function must be activated in the radio or

The memory buttons are located in the driv­
er's door.
Switching the memory function on/off
~ Press the ION/OF F! button to switch the
memory function on/off. The word
OFF
lights up when the memory function is
sw itched off. Seat profiles are not stored.
Storing a seat profile
~ Press the ISETI button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
~ Press a memory button dII or [Ii) briefly. A
tone conf irms that the settings were stored.
Accessing a seat profile
~ If the driver's door is open, press a memory
button .
~ If the driver's door is closed, press and hold
the memory button until the seat adjust­
ment is complete.
A WARNING
- For safety reasons, the seat setting can only be recalled when the vehicle is sta­
tionary -otherwise you risk having an ac­
cident.
- I n an emergency the recall procedure can
be cancelled by pressing the
I ON/OFF !
switch or by tapping the memory but­
tons.

A WARNING
-The c igarette lighter on ly works when the
i gnition is switched on . Incorrect usage
can lead to ser ious injuries or burns. For
this reason, childr en should never be left
unattended in the veh icle because this in­
creases the risk of inj ury.

The cigarette lighter can be damaged if
you connect electrical accessor ies to it .
Storage
General overview
_& WARNING
-
- Always remove objects from the instru-
ment panel. Any items not put away
could slide around ins ide the veh icle
while driv ing or when accelerat ing o r
when applying the brakes or when driv ­
ing around a corner.
- When you are dr iving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter console or other storage locations
cannot fall out into the footwe lls. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.

Front beverage holders

Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident

hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea,
in the vehicle while it is moving. In case
of an accident, sudden braking or other
vehicle movement, hot liqu id could spill,
causing scald ing burns . Sp illed hot liquid
can a lso cause an accident and personal
injury .
- Use only soft cups in the cupholder . H ard
cups and g lasses can cause injury in an
accident.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray- risk of fire.

carried in the cupholder. L iquid could spill
out and damage your vehicle's electron ic

Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and
can be locked.

a holder with the key body into which the
eme rgency key must be clipped to be able to
start the vehicle.

accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.

General information

The backrests can be folded forward either
separately or together.

When fo ld ing the backrest forward, make
sure the rear safety belts are in the belt
guides so they do not become p inched in
the backrest lo ck and damaged. Other ob­
jects should be removed from the rea r
bench seat to pro tect the backrest from
damage.
Tie-downs
The luggage compartment is equipped with
four tie-down rings to secure luggage and
other items.
