Power top
Power top emergency
operation
General information
The power top con be closed manually if there is
a malfunction .
• Set the parking brake.
• Open the windows.
• Switch the ignition off .
• To reduce pressure in the power top hydraulics,
pull the~ button for approximate ly 10 to 15
seconds ¢
page 40, fig. 34 .
Only close the power top manually in an emer­
gency. Have a second person he lp you. Drive to an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized repair facili­
ty immediately to have the malfunction correct­
ed.
A WARNING
- There is a risk of pinching your hands or in­
juring other people during all steps in the power top emergency operation process.
- Ma ke sure a ll windows a re open dur ing
emergency operation.
- Do not hold the power top supports or
other moving parts.
- Never dr ive when the power top is not
locked correctly . The wind from driving
could cause the power top to open . This can
result in injuries and damage to the vehicle .
(1) Tips
The vehicle headliner is not clipped in and the
power top compartment cover is not locked
after using the power top emergency opera ­
tion procedure. Drive to an authorized Audi
dea ler or authorized repair facility immediate­
ly to have the malfunction corrected.

- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned on,
a buzzer sounds as long as the driver's door
is open.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference
between the inside and outside. They will
clear shortly after switching them on. This does not affect the serv ice life of the light­
ing .
- In the event of a light sensor malfunction,
the driver is notified in the instrument clus­
ter display

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher.

-The turn signals only work with the ignition

switches off automatically.

high beam works only when the headlights
are on. The indicator light

cluster illuminates when the high beams are
on.
- The
headlight flasher works only as long as you
hold the lever -even if there are no lights
switched on . The indicator light
II in the in­
strument cluster illuminates when you use the
headlight flasher.
WARNING
Do not use the high beam or headlight flasher
if you know that these could blind oncoming
traffic.
Adjusting exterior lighting
The functions are selected in the radio or MMI* .

The coming home function illuminates the area
around the vehicle when the ignition is switched
off and the driver's door is opened. Depending on
vehicle equipment, the function can be switched on and off or the length of time the lights remain
on* can be adjusted .

leaving home function illuminates the area
around the vehicle when unlocking it. This func-
tion can be switched on and off.

Auto headlights*
W hen the light swi tch is in the A UTO ~ page 48
position, the sw itch-on po int of the lights can be
cha nged in the automatic driving light function.
Daytime running lights
USA models :
You can switch the daytime r unning
lights
on and off .
Canada models: The funct ion cannot be tu rned
off .
It is activated automatically each t ime the ig­
n ition is switched on.
Tra vel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illumination on the side of the
road on which you are driving.
If you are driving
in a cou ntry that dr ives on the opposite side of
the road from you r own country, this will cause
g lar e fo r oncom ing dr ive rs . To p revent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in veh icles w ith
Xenon headlights* .
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be cove red
with waterproof adhesive covers that prev ent
l ight from passing through. For more informa­
tion, ple ase see you r auth orized Audi dea le r or
a uthorized repair fa ci lity .
When travel mode is ac tiva ted, a disp lay in
t he dr ive r inf orm ation sys tem in dicates this
e ach t ime yo u sw itch the ignition on .

emergency flashers are switched on by using the

l y if you a re in an accident where the airbag has
deployed .

You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
-you are the last vehicle standi ng in a traffic
jam so that any other vehicles com ing can
see yo u, or when
- yo ur ve hicle has broken down or yo u are in
an eme rge ncy sit uat ion, or w hen
-your vehicle is be ing towed by a tow tru ck or
if yo u are towing another vehicle behin d
you.

Th e basic brightness of the illumination for the
instruments, the center console and the display
can be adjusted .

• Press the knob to release it.
• Turn the knob toward"- " or"+" to reduce or in­
crease the brightness.
• Press the knob again to return it to its original
position .
@ Tips
The instrument illumination (for dials and
needles) lights on when the ignition
is switch­
ed on and the vehicle lights are turned off. As
the daylight fades, the illumination of the di­
a ls likewise dims automatically and will go
out completely when the outside light is very
low. This featu re is meant to remind yo u to
switch on the headlights when outside light
conditions become poor.

Front passenger's ext erior mirror tilt
function*
To help you see the c urb when ba cking in to a
p ar king space, the surface of the mirror tilts
slightly. Fo r this to happen, the knob must be in
the posit ion for the front passenger's outs ide
mirror.
You can adjust the ti lted mi rror sur fa ce by turn­
ing the knob in the desired direction. When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key yo u are us ing.
The mirror goes back into its original position
once yo u drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or tu rn the ignition
off .
A WARNING
Curved mir ror surfaces (convex or spherical *)
increase your f ield of view. Remember that
vehicles o r other objects will appear sma ller
and farther away than when seen in a flat mir­
ror. If you use t his mirror to est imate d istan­
ces of following vehicles whe n cha nging
lanes, yo u co uld estimate incor rec tly and
c ause an accident .
(D Note
-If the mir ror housing was moved by force
(fo r example, by r unning into an object
when maneuvering the vehi cle), the mirror
must be folded all the way in using the pow­
er fold ing function . The mirror housing
must not be moved back into place by hand
beca use this would impair the f unction o f
the mirro r mechan ism.
- If you wash the ve hicle in an automatic car
wash, you m ust fold the exterior mi rrors in

to reduce the r isk o f damage to the m irrors .
Never fold power folding exterior mirrors*
by hand . On ly fold them in and out using
the power controls.
(D Tips
- If the power adjusting function malfunc­
tions, the glass in both mirrors can be ad­
justed by pressing on the edge of it by hand.

Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic d im­
ming mirrors if the glass is broken . Electro­
lyte fluid can irritate sk in, eyes and respirato­
ry system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to electro­
lyte can cause irritat ion to the resp iratory
system, especially among people with ast h­
ma or other respiratory conditions. Get
fresh air immediate ly by leaving the vehicle
or, if that is not possible, open windows a nd
d oors all the way.

is reactivated the next time the ignition is switch­
ed on.
Clean ing the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates on ly when the headlights are
on. If you move the lever to position @, the
headlights are washed in intervals .
A WARNING
-The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
dr iver. The driver is still responsib le for
ma nually switching the wipers o n accord ing
to the v is ibility conditions.
- The w indshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windsh ield coating agents . Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­ ness, low sun, can result in increased glare.
Wiper b lade chatter is also possible.
- Properly f unctioning windsh ie ld wiper
blades are required for a clear view and safe
dr iv ing¢

- In the case of frost, check whethe r th e
windsh ie ld wiper b lades are froze n to the
windsh ield. Sw itching on the winds hield
wipers can damage the wiper blades!
- Prior to using a ca r w ash, the win dshi eld
wiper system m ust be switched o ff (lever in
pos ition @). This helps to p revent uninten­
tiona l switching on and damage to the
windshie ld wiper system .
@ Tips
-The windshield wipers are switched off
when the ignition is turned off. Activate the
windsh ie ld wipers after the ign ition is
switched back on by moving the windsh ield
wiper leve r to any pos it ion.
- Wo rn or dirty windshield wiper blades result
i n streak ing. This can affect the ra in sensor*
funct ion. Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly .
- The washe r fluid nozzles of the windshield
washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignition is on .

-When stopping temporari ly, (e.g. at a traf­
fic light) the set speed of the windshield
wipers is automatically reduced by one
speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshie ld w iper blades when they be­
gin to leave streaks. Use a soft cloth and glass
cleaner to clean t he windsh ie ld w iper blades .

be able to brake or accelerate.
Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the
rearmost position.
To avoid contact with the a irbag while it is de­
p loying, do not sit any closer to the instrument
panel than necessary and a lways wear the three­
point safety belt provided adjusted correctly. We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat
in the following manner:
.,. Bring the backrest up to an (a lmost) upright
position .
Do not ride with the seat reclined.
.,. Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re­
straints: Adjust the head restra int so the upper
edge is as even as poss ible with the top of your
head. If that is not possible, try to adjust the
head restraint so that it is as close to th is posi­
tion as poss ible

er's seat while the vehicle is moving.
If you
do this while the veh icle is moving, you will
be out of posit ion. Always ad just the driver's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not moving .
- Be carefu l when adjusting the seat height .
Check to see that no one is in the way, or se­
rious injury could result!
- Because the seats can be electrically adjust­
ed w ith the ignition off or with the ig nition
key removed, never leave children unattend­
ed in the vehicle. Unsupe rvised use of the
electric seat adj ustments may cause ser ious
m Jur y.
- To red uce the r isk of injury in the case of
sudden b raking or acc ident, front passen­
ge rs must neve r ride in a moving ve hicle
w it h the backrest reclined. Sa fety belts and
the airbag system on ly offer maximum pro­
tect ion when the backrest is upr ight and the
safety belts are properly positioned on the
body. The more the backrest is reclined, the
greater the risk of personal injury from an
incorrect seating position and improper ly
positioned safety belts.

Memory function
Description
Applies to: vehicles with memory function
The memory funct ion allows yo u to qu ickly and
eas ily store and recall personal seat ing profi les
for the driver. The memory function is operated
through the master key and the memory buttons
in the driver 's door.
The drive r's seating profile is stored and assigned
to the maste r key each t ime the vehicle is locked.
When you open the door, the seat profile is auto ­
matica lly recalled.
If two people use one vehicle,
it is recomm ended that each person a lways uses
"their own" master key .
Up to 2 seat prof iles can be stored in the memory
buttons in the driver 's door . Once they are stor­
ed, these s eat profiles can be selected at any
time.
I n addition to the driver 's seat settings, you can
a lso store and access the exterior mirror adjust­
ment settings* using the remote control key or
memory button .

Applies to: veh icles with seat memory
To assign the driver 's seat settings to the remote
control key when locking the vehicle, the function
must be act ivated in the rad io or MMI*

Warm and cold
1- 1 Switching recirculation mode on/off
In r ecirculation mode, the air inside the vehicle is
circu lated and filtered. This prevents the unfil­
tered air outside the vehicle from entering the
ve hicl e interior. We recommend switching recir­
culation mode on when driving through a tunnel
or when sitting in traffic¢.&,.

IAUTOI button or l recirculation mode off.
IAUTO I Switching automatic mode on
Automatic mode maintains a constant tempera­
ture inside the vehicle. Air temperature, airflow
and air distribution are controlled automatically.
Adjusting the temperature
Temperatures between 60 °f (+16 °C) and 84 °f
( + 28 °C) can be set. Outside of this range,
LO or
HI will appear in the climate control system dis­
p la y. At both of these settings, the climate con­
trol system runs continuously at maximum cool ­
ing or heating power. There is no temperature
regulation.
~ Adjusting the airflow
You can adjust the airflow manually to suit your
needs. To have the airflow regulated automati­
cally, press the
IAU TO I button.
~ Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually select the vents where the air
will flow. To have the air dist ribution regulated
automatically , press the
IAU TO I button.
QJ Adjusting seat heating*
Pressing the button switches the seat heating on
at the highest setting (level 3) . The LEDs indicate
the temperature level. To reduce the tempera­
ture, press the button aga in. To switch the seat
heating off, press the button repeated ly until the
L ED turns off.
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automatically
switches from level 3 to level 2.
~ Adjusting seat ventilation*
Pressing the button switches the seat vent ilation
on at the highest setting (level 3). The LEDs indi-

cate the ventilation level. To reduce the venti la­
tion level, press the button again. To switch the
seat ventilation off, press the button repeatedly
until the LED turns off.
I@ FRONT I Switch the defroster on/off
The windshield and side windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as quick ly as possible.
The maximum amount of air f lows mainly from
the vents below the windshield. Recirculation
mode switches off. The temperature should be
set to 72 °f (22 °C) or higher. The temperature is
controlled automatically.

lliil REAR I Switching rear window heater on/
off
The rear window heater only operates when the
engine is running. It switches off automatically
after a few m inutes, depending on the outside
temperature.
To prevent the rear window heater from switch­
ing off automatica lly, press and hold the
loo REARI
button for more than 2 seconds. T his remains
stored until the ignition is sw itched off.
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the thumbwheels. The levers adjust
the direction of the airflow from the vents.
In vehicles with a 3-zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate contro l system*, you can adjust the air tem­
perature in the rear by turning the thumbwheel
toward the red side to make it warmer or toward
the blue side to make it cooler.
A WARNING
- Do not use the rec irculat ion for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog up
since no fresh air can enter the vehicle . If
the windows fog up, press the air recircula­
tion button again immediate ly to switch off
the air recirculat ion function or select de­
frost.
- Individuals with reduced sensitiv it y to pain
or temperature could develop burns when
using the seat heating function. To reduce

The steering wheel position is fully adjus table up
and down and forward and back .

t ion.
• Push the lever against the steeri ng column un-
ti l it locks .
There must be a t least 10 inches (25 cm) be­
tween your chest and the center of the stee rin g
wheel. If yo u cannot sit mo re than 10 inches (25
cm) from the steering wheel, see if adaptive
equipment is available to help you reach the ped­
als and increase the distance from the steering
wheel.

Improper use of steering whee l adjustment
and improper seating position can cause ser i­
ous pe rsonal injury.
- Adjust the steer ing whee l co lumn on ly w hen
the vehicle is not mov ing to prevent loss of
vehicle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is a min imum of 10 inches (25
cm) betwee n your chest and t he s teer ing
wheel

maintain t his minimum distance, the airbag
system cannot p rotect yo u proper ly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from sit­
ting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from the
steer ing whee l, check with your author ized
Audi dealer to see if adaptive equipment is
ava ilable.
- If the steer ing whee l is aligned w ith your
face, the supplementa l driver's a irbag can­
not provide as much protect io n in an acc i­
dent. Always make sure that the steer ing
wheel is aligned with you r chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o' clock posi­
tions to reduce the risk of pe rso nal inju ry if
the dr iver's a irbag dep loys .
- Never ho ld the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'cl ock position or wi th you r hands inside
the stee rin g wheel rim or on t he s teer ing
wheel h ub. Holding the stee ring w heel the
wrong way can cause serious inj uries to the
hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys .
Ignition lock
Starting engine with the key
Applies to: vehicles with ignition lock
The ignition is switched on and the engine start·
ed with the ignition key .
