• Place the beverage in the holder and release
the arm. The arm swings back by itself and
automatically secures the beverage.
Clo sing cuphold ers
• To close the cupholder, press on the center
section between the two arms and push the
cupholder in the s lot as far as it will go.
A WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident
and personal i njury .

-Never carry any beverage containers with
hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea,
in the vehicle while it is moving. In case
of an accident, sudden braking or other
vehicle movement, hot liqu id could spill,
causing sca ld ing bur ns. Sp illed hot liq uid

injury.
- Use only soft cups in the cuphol der. H ard
c u ps and g lasses can ca use in jury in an
accident.
- Never use the cupho lder or adapter as an
ashtray- risk of fire.

out and damage your veh icle's e lectronic

Glove compartment
The glove compar tment is illuminated and
can be locked.

Additional storage
The re are a var iety of storage compartments
and fasteners in various places in the veh icle.
- In the roof headliner above the rearv iew
m irror.
- On the back of the front seat . The compart­
ment can hold a maximum we ight of 1 kg .
- On the left and right of the luggage com­
partment, behind the side trim.
- Garment hooks on the pillars in the rear of
the vehicle.
A WARNING
-- When driving, do not leave any hard ob -
jects on the rear w indow shelf o r allow
your pet to sit on the shelf. They co uld
become a hazard fo r vehicle occupants in
the event of sudden braking or a cr ash.
- Always remove objects from the instru­
men t panel. A ny item s not stored could
slide around inside the vehicle wh ile dr iv­
ing or when acce le rat ing or when app ly ­
ing the brakes or when driving around a
corner.
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter conso le or other storage locations

cannot fall out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any articles of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's v iew. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang any clothing w ith hard, pointed or heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hooks.
During sudden braking or in an accident -
especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects cou ld injure any passen­
gers inside the vehicle .
- To reduce the r isk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.
- Read and fo llow all WARN INGS
~ page 161, Important safety instruc­
tions on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do
not impair the driver's vision .
- T he coat hooks must only be used for
lightweight clothing. Do not leave any
heavy or sharp edged objects in the pock­
ets which may interfere with the side cur­
tain airbag deployment and can cause personal injury in a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging clothing on the coat hooks as this can in­
terfere with proper deployment of the
side curtain airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal in­
jury in a sudde n stop.
- Always keep the compartment above the
rearview mirror closed while driving to
reduce the risk of injury in the event of
sudden braking maneuvers or a col lision.

Objects located on the rear shelf that rub
aga inst the rear w indow cou ld damage the
heating wires for t he rear w indow defog­
ger.

Roof rack
Description and mounting location s
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof
luggage rack.

vided by the roof rack manufacturer when
installing the roof rack system.
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the
roof, you must observe the fo llowing:
- Yo ur vehicle has aerodynam ic rai n gutters
mo lded into the roof. This is why conven­
tional roof luggage racks cannot be used.
We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi orig inal accessories program.
- On ly use roof racks approved for your vehi­
cle. These approved roof racks are the bas is
for a complete roof rack system. Addit ional
attachments or carrier systems are needed
to transport luggage and sports equipment.
We recommend using roof racks from the
Audi orig inal accessories program .
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it
is only mounted on the designated locations
on the roof

- We recommend that you keep the installa­
tion instructions for your roof rack system
together with your Owner's literature in the
vehicle.
Wh en shoul d th e roof rack b e re mo ved?
-Before going th rough an automatic car wash
(it is best to ask the car wash operator for
advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fuel consump­
tion, wind no ise and to guard against theft.
A WARNING
- Use of an unapproved roof rack or incor­
rect mount ing of an approved roof rack
can cause the roof rack or the items at­
tached to it to fall off the roof onto the road .
- Objects fall ing from the roof of a vehicle
can cause a crash and personal injury .
- Only mount the roof rack on the desig­
nated locations on the roof¢ fig. 63.
- The roof rack system must be insta lled
exactly according to the instructions pro­
vided.
- When driving w ith a roof rack system,
changes to the center of gravity and wind
resistance can change the veh icle han­
dling and lead to a collision . Always
adapt you r driv ing and you r speed to the
cu rrent conditions.
@ Note
- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the veh icle caused by using
roof racks or mo unt ing structures not
approved by Audi for yo ur vehicle . T he
same applies to damage resulting from
i ncorrect roof rack installation.
- Always check the roof rack moun tings
and hardware before each trip and dur­ ing a trip to make sure everything is se­
curely tightened . If necessary, retighten
the mount ings and check the ent ire sys­
tem from t ime to t ime.
- After mounting a roof rac k system, or
when you transport objects on the roof
of your veh icle, the height of the vehicle is naturally increased
. Be careful when
driving under low bridges or in parking
garages for example . This cou ld cause
damage to the load and even the vehicle
itself.
- Make sure that the open rear lid and the sunroof do not come into contact with
objects on the roof.
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure anything on the roof rack is securely tied
down.

ly before you drive off .
The maxim um permissible roof weight is
165 lb (75 kg ). The roof we ight is the total of
the weight of the roof rack, the attachments and the ca rgo you a re carrying. You must also
not exceed the max imum load we ight for the
r oof rack yo u are using.
When using a roof rack system which has a lower load carrying capacity, you must not use
up the tota l maximum permiss ible load carry­
ing capac ity specif ied above. Ins tead, you
sho uld load the roof rack system only to the
maximum capacity specified by the manufac­
turer of the roof rack system.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used
to secure items to the roof rack can fail
during hard braking or in a coll is ion and
cause ser ious persona l injury.
- Make sure the roof rack is installed exact­ ly as specified above¢ page 61.
- Always use s uitable mount ing straps for
secur ing items to the roof rack to help
prevent items from s hifting or flying for­
ward .
- Items on the roof rack must always be
securely mounted.

-The use of a roof rack can negative ly af­
fect the way a vehicle handles. Cargo
that is large, heavy, bulky, long or flat
will have a greater negative influence on
the vehicle's aerodynamics, center of
gravity and overall handling . Always
dr ive slowly, avo id sudden braking and
maneuvers when transporting cargo on
the roof of your vehicle.
- Never exceed the max imum permissible
load carry ing capacity of the roof of your
vehicle, the perm issib le axle weights and
the permissible total weight of your vehi­
cle

As a result of the increased w ind resist­
ance created by a roof rack, your vehicle is
using fue l unnecessarily . So remove the
roof rack after using it .

The steering wheel position is fully adjustable
up and down and forward and back.

hands at t he 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to redu ce the risk of persona l injury
if the driver's airbag dep loys .
- N ever hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o' clock posi tion or wi th your hands in si de
the stee rin g wheel rim or on t he steering
wheel h ub. Holding the steering whee l
the wrong way can cause se rious injuries
to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er 's airbag deploys.

If you wou ld like to switch the ignition on
without starting the engine, follow these
steps :
• Inse rt the key into the ignition lock .
• Press the key briefly
wi thout pressing the
c lutch pedal (for man ual transmissions) or
the brake peda l (for automatic transmis­
s ions) .
• To sw itch the igni tion off, press the key
again.
When starting the engine, major e lectr ical
loads are swi tched off temporarily .
You can on ly remove the key with the ignition
switched off.
I f the engine should not sta rt immediately,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a short time. Repeat starting procedure .
A WARNING
-Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces -danger of asphyxiation .
- Never remove the ign ition key from the
ignition look whi le the vehicle is moving.
Otherw ise, the steering lock cou ld sud­
denly engage and you would not be able
to steer the vehicle.
- Always take the key with you whenever
you leave your vehicle . Otherwise, the
engine could be started or electr ica l
equipment such as the power w indows
c ou ld be operated. This can lead to seri­
o us inj ury.
- Never leave children or persons requiring
assistance u nattended in the vehicle . The
doors c an be locked using the remo te
transmitter, preventing people from es­
caping from the vehicle on their own in
the event of an eme rgency. Depending
on the time of year, people inside the ve- h
icle can be exposed to very high or very
low temperatu res.
@ Note
Avoid high eng ine rpm, f ull throttle and
heavy engine loads unti l the engine has
r eached operating tempe rat ure -other­
wise you risk eng ine damage.
@ For the sake of the environment
Do not let the engine run w hile parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately. This
reduces unnecessary emissions.

- If the key cannot be removed from the
ignition lock, you have to pull the me­
chanical key out of the master key in or­
der to be able to lock the vehi-

-After starting a cold engine, there may
be a brief period of increased noise be­
cause the oil pressure must first bu ild up
in the hydraulic valve ad justers. This is
normal and not a cause for concern.
- If you leave the veh icle with the ignition
switched on, the ignit ion w ill switch off
afte r a certain per iod of t ime . P lease
no te that electrical eq uipment such as
exterior ligh ts will sw itch off as well
when that happens .

ton vehicle speed must be less than 6 mph (10 km/h).
A WARNING
- Never turn off the eng ine before the ve­
hicle has come to a complete stop . The
full function of the brake booster and the
power steering is not guaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary . Because you cannot steer and
brake as you usua lly would, t his could
lead to crashes and serious injur ies .
- For safety reasons, you should always
par k your vehicle with the se lector lever
in P. Otherwise, the ve hicle co uld i nad­
vertent ly roll away.
- T he rad iator fan ca n con tinue to ru n for
u p to 10 mi nutes eve n after yo u have
t ur ned o ff the eng ine and removed the

ignition key. The radiator fan can a lso
turn on again if the engine coo lant heats
up because of intense sunlight or heat
bu ild-up in the engine compa rtment.
- Always take the key w ith you whenever
you leave your ve hicle. Otherw ise, the

could be ope rated. This can lead to seri­
ous injury.

there is no master key ins ide the veh icle or if
the system does not recognize it . Fo r exam­
ple , the master key cannot be recogni zed if it
is covered by an obje ct (e.g . al uminum brief
case) which
screens t he radio s ignal. Elec tron­
ic dev ices such as cell phones can also inter­
fere with the radio s ignal.
Pre ss brak e pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal to start the eng ine in a vehicle
with an automat ic transm iss ion.
Press clutch pedal to start engine
T his message appears if you do not press the
clutch pedal to start the engine in a veh icle
with a manual tr ansmission . ..,.

This message appears when attempting to
start the engine if the selector lever for the
automatic t ransmission is not in the P or N
position. The engine can on ly be started with
the selector in these posi tions.

This message appears if the master key is re­
moved from the vehicle with the eng ine run­
n ing .
If the master key is no longer in the ve ­
hi cle, yo u cannot swit ch o n the ignition after
stopping the engine and you also cannot star t
the engine again. Moreover, yo u cannot lock
the vehicle from the outside with the key .
Shift to P otherwise vehicle ca n roll away .

This m essage appears for safety reasons

Electromechanical
parking brake
Operation
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

Your vehicle is equipped with an electrome ­
chanical parking brake . The parking b rake is
designed to p revent the veh icle from rolling
u nintentionally and replaces the hand b rake .

tional hand brake, the electromechanical
parking brake provides vario us convenience
and safe ty f unct io ns.
When starting from rest
