Setting the display brightness

The display brightness can be adjusted in the In ­
fotainment system .
• Select : the ICARI function button > Car systems
control button > Driver assistance > Audi side
assist .
The display brightness adjusts automatically to
the br ightness of the surroundings, both in the
information and in the warning stage . In very
dark or very br ight surroundings, the automat ic
adj ustment will set the disp lay to the minim um
or maximum level. In such cases , you may notic e
no change when adjust ing the brightness, or the
change may only be noticeable once the sur­
ro undings change .
Adj ust the brightness to a level where the disp lay
i n the information stage will no t disrupt your
view ahead.
If you change the brightness, the dis­
p lay in the exter ior mirror wi ll briefly show the
brightness lev el in the information stage . T he
brightness of the warning stage is linked to the
brightness in the information stage and is adjust­
ed along with the information stage.

If side assist switches off by itself, the LED in the

sensor vision
The radar sensor vision is impaired . Do not cover
the area in front of the sensors with bike wheels,
stickers, dirt or ot her objects . Clean the area in
front of the sensors, if

Audi side assist: Currently unavailable
Side assist cannot be switched on at this time be­
cause there is a malfunction (for example, the
battery charge level may be too low).
Audi side assist: System fault!
The system cannot guarantee that it will detect
vehicles correctly and it has switched off. The
sensors have been moved or are faulty . Have the
system checked by an authorized Audi dealer or
autho rized Aud i Serv ice Facility soon.
Audi side assist: Unavailable when towing
Side assist switches off automatically when a fac­
tory- installed trailer hitch is connected to the
electrical connector on the trailer. There is no
guarantee the system will switch off when using
a retrofitted trailer hitch. Do not use side ass ist
when towing a trailer.

Description

The night vision assist con detect, highlight and,
if necessary, worn about pedestrians and large
wild animals .
Night vision assist with pedestrian and wild ani­
mal detection ass ists you at night by us ing an in ­
frared camera to monitor the area in front of
your veh icle, w ith in the limits of the system. It
can display objects up to a distance of approxi­
mately 1000 feet (300 m). The thermal image
detected by the camera is shown in the instru­ ment cluster display. Warm a reas appear l ighter
and cold areas appear dar ke r.

The area classified as critical is based on the vehi­
cle speed and the steering wheel angle. Pedes­
trian and wild animal warning encourages you to pay more attention.
If the night vision assist image is replaced by an­
other display (such as the on-board computer),
the
red . or. indicator light c::> fig. 126 will
appear if there is a pedestrian or wild animal
warning.
If the head-up display* is switched on and the
night vision assist content is activated, .

Marking light*
To direct the driver's attention to a pedestrian,
the headlights can flash on the pedestrian three
times in a row when there is a pedestrian warn­
ing.
This occurs at speeds above approximately 35 mph (60 km/h) if you are outside of illuminat­
ed areas and no detected vehicles are shown . The
high beam assistant* controls the marking light*
c::> page 44, High beam assistant .
The marking light is not used for wild animals .

The following situations may affect the function
of the night vision assist system:
- Poor visibility such as snow , rain, fog or heavy
spray
- Dirty lens on the night vision assist camera
Make sure the night vision assist camera
c::> fig . 12 7 is not covered by stickers , deposits or
any other obstructions because that can affect
the camera function . For information on clean­
ing, see
c::> page 306.
The pedestrian and wild animal recognition de­
pends on the temperature difference between
the person/wild animal and the background. Peo­
ple/wild animals may not be detected if the dif­
ference is too small. The pedestrian/wild animal
marking and the marking light* deactivate at
temperatures above approximately 77 °F (25 °C)
and during daylight . If the night vision assist im ­
age is selected in the inst rument cluster display,
then the
II symbol appears a t the top on the
right side .

Pay attention to traffic and the area around
your vehicle when night vision assist is switch­
ed on. The driver is always responsible for as­
sessing the traffic situation.
- Night vision assist can only warn about peo­
ple and wild animals located within the visu­
al range of the infrared camera. The visual
range corresponds to the image in the in­
strument cluster display .
- Night vision assist may not detect people or
wild animals and mark them if
- they are not in an upright position, for ex­
ample if they are sitting or lying down
and/or
- the silhouette in the display appears in­
complete or interrupted, for example be­
cause the person is partially covered by a
vehicle or an animal by tall grass . This
could increase the risk of an accident.
- Never try to swerve around animals if doing
so will endanger you or other road users, be­
cause this increases the risk of an accident.

If condit ions are bright enough, night vision as­
sist can be sw itched on without moving the light
sw itch to the
AUTO pos it ion. Pedestr ian and wild
a ni mal highlig hting and warnings are only active
when i t is dar k ou tside and t he headlights are
switched on.
Adjusting the contrast

sion assist contrast .
When the night vision assist is switched on and
the image is visible in the instrument cl uster d is­
p lay, you can adjust the contrast in the image

Audi drive select (drive

Introduction
Drive select makes it possib le to exper ience dif ­
ferent types of vehicle sett ings in one veh icle .
T he driver can select
Comfort , Auto and Dynamic
modes in the Infotainment system to sw itch be­
tween, for example, a sporty a nd a comfortab le
driv ing mode .
Yo u can adjust the veh icle sett ings to your per­
so nal preferences in the
Individual mode. This
makes i t possible to combine se ttings such as a
spo rty engine se tt in g with light s teer ing.
Description
T he following systems, among other things, are
influenced by drive se lect:
Engine and transmission

pa rking aids wi ll help you when parking and ma­
ne uvering.

-Always look for traffic and check the area
around your vehicle by looking at it direct ly
as well. The parking system cannot replace
the driver's attent ion. The driver is always
responsible when enter ing or leav ing a park­
ing space and during similar maneuvers.
- Please note that some surfaces, such as
clothing, are not detected by the system .
-
-Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
wh ich people and objects cannot be detect­
ed . Be especially caut ious of small children
and animals .
- The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the radiator gr ille, bumper,
wheel housing and the underbody . The park­
ing system may be impa ired as a result.
Have a n author ized A udi dealer or author­
ized Audi Serv ice Facility check their func ­
tion .
- Make s ure the senso rs a re not obstructed by
stickers, deposits o r other materia ls. If they
are, the sensor function could be impaired.

Parking syste m s
@ Note
-Some objects are not detected or disp layed
by the system under certain circumstances:
- objects such as barrier cha ins, tra iler draw
bars, vertical po les or fences
- objects above the sensors such as wall ex ­
tensions
- objects with certain surfaces or structures
such as cha in link fences or powder snow
- If you continue driving closer to a low ob­
ject, it may disappear from the sensor range . Note that you will no longer be
wa rned about t his obstacle.

-The system may provide a warning even
tho ugh the re are no obstacles in the cover­
age area in some situations, such as:
- certain road surfaces or when there is tall
grass
- externa l ultrasonic sources such as from
cleaning vehicles
- in heavy rain, snow, or th ick vehicle ex ­
haust
- We recommend tha t you practice par king in
a traffic-free location or parking lot to be ­
come fami liar with the system . W hen doing
this, there sho uld be good light and weath­
er conditions.
- You can change the volume and pitch of the
signa ls as well as the
display ¢ page 125.

-What appears in the infotainment display is

Sensors are located in the front and rear bump­
ers. If these detect an obstacle , audible and visu­
al signals warn you.
Make sure the sensors are not covered by stick­
ers, depos its or any other obstructions as it may

The closer you get to the obstacle, the shorter
the interval between the audible signals. A con­
tinuous tone sounds when the obstacle is less
than approximately 1 foot (0.30 meters) away.

If the distance to an obstacle remains constant,
the volume of the distance warning gradually
drops after about four seconds (th is does not ap­

Visual display
The segments in front of and behind the vehicle
help you to determine the distance between you
and an obstacle .
The red lines mark the expected direction of trav­
el according to the steering angle. A white seg­
ment indicates an identified obstacle that is out­
side of the vehicle's path . Red segments show
identified obstacles that are in your vehicle's
path. As your vehicle comes closer to the obsta­
cle, the segments move closer to the vehicle . The
collision area has been reached when the next to
last segment is displayed . Obstacles in the colli­
s io n area, including those outside of the vehicle 's

- If the position and the installation angle of
the rearview camera was changed, for ex­ ample after a collision, do not continue to
use the system for safety reasons . Have it
checked by an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility.
- Only use the rearview camera to assist you if
it shows a good, clear picture. For example,
the image may be affected by the sun shin·
ing into the lens, dirt on the lens, or if there
is a malfunction.
- Use the rearview camera only if the luggage
compartment lid is completely closed. Make
sure any objects you may have mounted on
the luggage compartment lid do not block
the rearview camera.
- The camera lens enlarges and distorts the field of vision. The object appears both al·
tered and inaccurate on the screen .
- In certain situations, people or objects in
the display appear closer or farther away:

In the Surrounding mode, black corners are
shown in the vehicle silhouette. Objects in these
areas are outside of the camera's field of view
and are not detected.
The accuracy of the orientation lines and the blue
surfaces is reduced if the adaptive ai r suspen­
sion/sport* is faulty, if the vehicle is lifted or if
the
Dynamic mode is activated ¢ page 111.

and inaccurate on the screen.

-The Infotainment disp lay shows the direc­
tion in which the rear of the veh icle is travel­
ing based on the steer ing wheel angle. The
front of the veh icle swings out more than
the rear of the vehicle. Maintain plenty of
distance so that an exterior mirror or a cor­
ner of the vehicle does not collide with any
obstacles.
@ Tips
If
the 8/IT;M/c:5 symbol appears in the dis­
play and the respective disp lay area is grayed
out, then the power exterior mirrors were
folded in or one of the doors/luggage com­
partment lid was opened .
